An angel before me with a gun, shining gloriously. Wait? Since when did angels carry guns, non that I know, at least I don’t think so. I let my eyes adjust to the light, the figure becomes more clear. “Human?” I ask as if unsure. Then it finally clicks in my brain, I spring up from the couch. “You are Human!” I shout excitedly, she backs up while raising the gun higher, trying to hold the gun still. I register the gun again and quickly hold my hands up, “Please don’t shoot” I say with a sideways grin. (Now that I get a good look at her, she really pretty. And I mean, reeeeally pretty) I start grinning like an idiot. She has blonde hair, almost golden, with riveting blue eyes and dark eyebrows. Defined cheek bones and a beautiful jawline, with a small nose and lovely looking lip… (what am I thinking? Sheesh, I have been alone for too long). She’s about a head shorter than me, with a grey jacket and blue jeans on. She has a red backpack on and looks quite dirty, though that messy look kinds of looks sexy… (again. Seriously, she has a gun pointed at me).
“Um, hi” I say with a little wave to my hand, “could you possibly point that somewhere else, I don’t really want to get shot today” I point slowly at the gun she’s holding. “Alexia… Where did you go?” I hear off in the distance, (more people) I smile. Another woman rounds one of the bookshelves and notices the girl in front of me, then she see me and automatically raises her weapon. I shrink back a bit, “I mean you no harm” I say wearily. “I found him sleeping on the couch” the girl says looking at the woman, (oh no, the voice is even beautiful). The woman has brown hair and a round face, with a brown jacket and faded jeans. “Where did you two go?” a man says as he rounds the same bookshelf. “Oh” he stops and looks at the scene spread out in front of him. I scrunch my face and give a shrug when he looks at me. He looks my appearance and the room around me, “ladies, you can put your guns down now”. “But we don’t know him” the woman says back. “Trust me, he’s not the type to try and hurt you for no reason. So put down your weapons before you give him one” He replies back. The woman holds a moment, tenses then lowers he gun. The girl looks back at the other two and slowly lowers her gun. I lower my hands and the man steps towards me. “Sorry about that, we’ve had a couple of interesting moments before” he reaches his hand out “my name is Doug”, He has a bit more of a oval face and dark brown hair, with a black jacket and jeans. “No worries, Nick is the name” I grab his hand and give it a shake. “This is Alexia (pointing towards the nervous looking girl) and my wife, Helen” Doug wraps his arm around her. “Greetings. Well as you can tell, I’m the only one here. Except for you now, that is” I state. “No one else is here?” Helen gives me a questioned look. I scratch the back of my head “not for at least a month”. “What happened?” Helen pressed. “Things… h…” I look off past them. “Um… So it’s starting to get dark, where’s your room for us to hunker down in for the night” Doug cuts off the awkward exchange. “The whole building is safe, so go were every you need to” I say in confidence. “Huhuhu… but seriously where is the room” Doug says again. I roll my eyes, “Seriously, the whole building is safe. But if you still don’t trust it, there’s a shelter down in the basement that has a series of locks that won’t be able to be broken down by hand. Also there’s food and beds in there to. If you would follow me then”. They hesitate for a second then begin to follow me down the route that I’ve taken so many times since the apocalypse started.
We reach the steel door and I open it, “If you would continue down the steps and wait for me at the next door”. They look at each other and go down the steps, I placed glow sticks earlier so there was a little light to see. I close the door and lean my head on it (This is going to be annoying having to explain what they’re about to see). I quickly go down the steps and meet them at the door. “Please don’t freak out when we get in there” I say as I turn the wheel to the door. They looked to each other weirdly, I open the door and they step inside. I close the door behind me, “It’s so dark” they mumble. “Lights… On” I speak out, lights flicker on straight down the corridor. They all look back at me, with mixed emotions. “How?” “I’ll explain later, but first let’s actually get in first” I continue down the hall and they follow.
“Just… How?” Helen asks in wonder. I scratch the back of my head “About 4 months ago, the meteors fell. I was standing just outside of the library when everything was coming down. A scientist…” I give a big sigh, Helen looks at me but doesn’t say anything. “A scientist found me and a few other people and brought us down here to keep us away from the possible radiation. This is a nuclear bomb shelter, insulated with tons and tons of metal and concrete. From the looks of it, it was enough to stave off the emp. The power is possible with a propane generator which is connect to a huge tank. But I’m not sure how long it’ll last so we need to be carefully on what we use it with, if we want to continue having power”. “Wow, just wow” Doug says in amazement, “Do you know how long it’s been since I’ve seen actual power running”. “Yes, though I didn’t have your problem” I say. “Obviously” Helen mutters, I choose to ignore it. “Hu, Does that mean we can have hot showers?” Alexia asks meekly. I give her a big smile, “Yes you can, you can take one as long as you want, though try to limit yourself since it does take water and power”. She shines a bit brighter, “Okay then, I’ll get you your towels then and show you to the bathrooms”. I walk over to one of the supply rooms and grab 3 towels. “Alright who’s going first?” I walk back over to them and hand them their towels. “How many showers are there?” Helen asks. “There are 3, but sadly there open and side by side. Kind of how public swimming pools do it” I say, “then, Alexia, you can go first”. “Ooops, I forgot somethings” I quickly go back to the supply room and grab some woman’s shampoo (strawberry scent) and some washcloths. I walk past Alexia and motion for her to come along, we head to the shower room, which is the farthest room from the entrance. When we get into the room, I go to one of the shower heads, “Okay, here we are. Just in case, this is the hot and this is the cold” pointing at the knobs “You have the main head up at the top then this middle one is removable so you can do whatever with it. Also here” I hand her the shampoo, here face lightens up even more. I place the cloths on one of the metal bars bolted on the wall. “If you need anything, don’t be afraid to yell, I’ll send Helen in” giving her a quick smile. I turn and start walking out, “Um… I’m sorry for pointing the gun at you” she says sheepishly. I smile “don’t worry about it, I would have probably done the same thing in your position. Anyway, if we’re on okay terms now, it doesn’t matter anymore” I turn and leave.

“Doug. Helen. I don’t know any of your sizes for clothes, but there’s lots of clothes in that room if you want to find something for everyone” I point to the same room I was in before. They leave and enter the room, “Alright, need to get some food for dinner” I say to myself. I go into the freezer and emerge with a couple of cold pizzas. Helen goes to the shower room to give Alexia her clothes and then both Doug and Helen spend some time looking around the place before Alexia gets all the way done.
I’m cutting up some vegetables for a salad when Alexia emerges from the shower, the other two are already in there getting ready. She is beyond words, unimaginably beautiful in the white dress she has on. I whistle “oh my, you are… beyond words” I look down shaking my head while catching a glimpse of her blush. I throw the salad into a bowl, “could you put this on the table there, please” I ask Alexia. She grabs the bowl, less weary of me, and puts it on the table. Seems like she’s getting use to me. I pull the pizzas out of the oven and cut them up into 8 pieces each and slide them on a plater. I grab a pitcher and fill it with ice cold water, I grab the platter with the other hand and walk to the table and place them down in the middle, next to the salad. A few minutes later Doug and Helen come out of the shower, both dressed really nice. I guess they did this because it’s once in quite some time now. “The shower is open now… Pizza?!” Doug explodes with happiness. “You are my new best friend man” Doug says out loud, I just smile at him. Dinner past with idle chats about what we did before the end.
“I think it’s about time for bed” I say to the group. “I’ll take first watch” Doug says automatically in response to that sentence. I give him a stern look, “I haven’t had any issues ever since living here. There won’t be a need for you to stay up. Go spend some quality with your wife in the master bedroom, and don’t worry that room is especially sound proofed” I give him a sly smile. Helen gives me the most disbelieved look imaginable and Alexia goes extremely shy while Doug woots. “The room is over there (I point to one of the other sides of the base) and Alexia you can take one of those beds over there” she looks a little uncomfortable, “Don’t worry, I’ll be on the couch, on the other side of the room. Rest assured I will not do anything but sleep” she shyly nods. “I’m sure your all tired, so go go go” I shu them away and start picking up the dishes to wash them. Doug and Helen go into the bedroom and close the door. Alexia hovers by the table, I look at her “I could help…” she begins to say. “Alexia, I’m sure your exhausted, I’ve already had a nap. Go get some sleep” “Okay” she replies. “Good Night, and sweet dreams. You’ll be safe here for now.” I end.
