Chapter 5

The foxes as I now knew them to be called did not seem bothered at all about my taming skill. They even seemed to accept it easier than Sun when I first did it. Both seemed to care little for the actual act but still stood waiting after I did it. Wondering what they wanted I took a quick look at their screen and found much like Sun first did when I looked they both were afflicted with hunger.

Seeing as this seemed to be the only thing that may have them sitting in front of me I did as they seemingly wanted. When I finished I expected then to return to the hole they made. Contrary to my thought though one walked closer before laying beside me while the other went over to the water stone I had filled for Sun.

The stone was smoothed and wide but not very deep with the edges only a centimeter high or slightly higher. This was because this was the best way I found to get as much rain as I could from using the little amount of stone I have been able to find from around my roots. My territory expanding let me find more but there was not a lot that I could find.

I could make more stone as to have it hold more water or be wider to collect more but I came to a very large problem with this.

Skill learned Stone creation Through effort and practice you have learned to make stone from your mana. This is effected by your mana and ground affinity (Costs 20 mana per cubic centimeter)

After using it a few times I found that whatever a cubic centimeter was, it was very small and not nearly enough to make the water stone larger. It was more fun to use my mana on making progress with affinity.

There was a slight problem with that though. Not to long ago the progress to water had actually nearly stopped going up after it reached 7%. This did not seem to be a problem as it was still progressing but not very well. Mana was still highest at 8% but only recently had it increased.

It did not take long before both foxes were beneath me doing that unconscious thing that Sun usually does at least once a day. Both seemed content for the moment so I decided I would let them stay and went to practice some more.

----------------------------------------

It took another month before anything different happen. The foxes had taken almost all that time to make a hole near my tree and Sun seemed to have near doubled in size. Well, one of the foxes seemed to have grown some as well. Not enough to hinder them but definitely faster than when first tamed. Not mentioning unlike Sun the fox had only grown in its central trunk.

Over the month many more animals seem to start actually entering my glade with some lounging within, other than just passing through. My territory was growing exponentially with the foxes added attributes to my mana regeneration.

What changed was an odd ping from the system and an accompanying screen.

Belated assisted kill.

Bear has been slain.

I had no idea what the screen meant but getting the feeling that ‘slain’ was similar to when I got injured or when Sun was starving made me sad. I did not know what a bear was or what I did to ‘assist’ in slaying it though.

Thinking about what could make this happen was stopped when another screen appeared.

A tamed animal in your care had reached an available evolution. You have the choice to. (The choice is ultimately for the affected to decide) Allow self selection Preview choices and postpone choice for confirmation

Seeing what the choices were but not understanding what ‘evolution’ was I tried to think what it could be. I had never seen anything about evolutions when going through the screens but that did not surprise me all that much. After all. I had not heard of experience until I was lucky enough to find it accidentally. Trying to bring up anything new from any of the new information on the screen gave my something

Evolution This is the process of a monster or animal gaining enough experience to improve itself. This process is affected my skills, actions, and environment.

This was the only screen I found of any importance and it was not all that useful. It gave little information on how this will effect Sun other than just ‘stronger’. I realize that being stronger is a benefit as it is what I have been doing since I would remember so I assumed it was a natural part of growing. I am wondering what the choices are so I choose the other option as it did not say it would disrupt any current choices.

Evolution(s) available Large Bird A larger and stronger bird that naturally had higher health. Swift Bird A similarly sized yet more agile bird. Mana Bird A bird with stronger magical potential. Burrowing Bird A ground using bird with stronger claws for digging. Allow for self selection

I liked all the options to a degree but seeing them all I understood only one could be chosen. I turned to Sun to see he had been looking at me since I had gotten the screen. The bird seemed happy to have me looking and flew over.

It did not take too much effort for me to choose my selection. Sun seemed to like my choice and flew into my tree to rest and allow whatever happens in an evolution to happen.
