The Word Is Ever Changing.

Chapter 3:

Dirt was kicked up into the air as Kaito stretch out toward the mage. The mage began to activate a spell as he retreated trying, to create more distance for his spell to activate. After a few steps, Kaito had already reached him.

The mage froze as he noticed how close Kaito now was to him. He didn’t know what to do. He carried on retreating backwards as Kaito swung the sword out toward him.

[Catastrophe] The mage’s staff lit up green as all of the wind in the area began to flow violently toward Kaito.

He was thrown back slightly by the wind. But as soon as his feet touched the floor he carried on with his attack. He dug his feet deep into the mud as he began to run toward the violent gusts of wind trying to hold him back.

Another flash of light appeared from the mage’s staff but this time there was a deep red light. It almost appeared to look like blood as a ball of dark magic began to swirl in front of his staff.

“You had better dodge, I don’t want our fight to be over this quickly. But then again if you do dodge. The demons behind you will die.” The mage shouted as Kaito charged toward him head-on.

[Blood Hex: Deteriorate.] The magic began to spiral as it was quickly sent flying toward Kaito.

He carried on running right toward the magic. And in a single swipe of his sword.

BOOM!

There was a colossal flash of as his sword made contact with the magic. As he slashed the sword toward the magic. Three solid beams of light shot out from the tip of the sword. The almost looked like lasers as they pierced the spell.

The magic suddenly stopped. As it touched the ground. Blood began to pour from the magic essence. But just as soon as it began to leak liquid across the floor it suddenly stopped. The blood began to crystallize. This was the first time Kaito had seen something like this.

He had seen blood magic before. It was the signature magic of The Chaotic Order Of Wisdom. Their founder created his own type of magic so that he could disregard the rules of the mage’s association. And ever since. Their membered had practised the same dark art that he did.

But this crystallization of blood. He didn’t know what to think of it. It seemed… synthetic. It was almost like it wasn’t magic in the first place.

He looked over at the mage. He was frozen in the same spot unable to move. Slowly but surely his body began to move. As one of his arms disconnected from the shoulder and dropped to the floor. His torso then split in two, Shortly followed by his head hitting the ground.

[Congratulations.]

The words read out in his head. ‘What is this? Did I level up? No that is impossible. I hit the level cap a long time ago…’ Kaito thought as he turned to hear the cheers of the demons behind.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

“The guardian spirit is amazing! My mother used to tell me stories of all the times she had seen him save our clan!, All hail the guardian spirit!” One after another the demons all bowed down to Kaito.

He sighed as he looked down at them all. He then looked over to see one person was still standing. It was the child from before. He looked for a second.

The boy flinched as he noticed Kaito was now looking directly at him. Kaito smiled at the boy before he disappeared into thin air.

The crowd began to cheer once again.

“That’s just like our Guardian Spirit! As soon as we are safe he disappears like a ghost!” One of them yelled in celebrations.

Kaito reappeared on the balcony where the king looked on. “Okay, Done. I’m going back to my room. Don’t call me if you need anything.” He said as he began to walk away.

“Kaito wait. What about your reward!?” King Amon asked.

He sighed as he turned around to reply. “Just send someone to organize my paperwork. I don’t want to go through the trouble of doing that again.” He said and then walked back to his room.

He walked over to the far corner of the room and picked up the door and then took it back to the door frame and slammed it back in place.

‘Now it’s time to see what that notification was about.’ He thought before he jumped back on to the bed.

“System!” He called out as a translucent blue screen appeared before him.

‘Just as I thought. I really did level up. But why now of all times? I spent years trying to break through the level cap but nothing ever happened. But I kill one mage and I level up? It makes no sense. Wait… Is that a quest? How many years has it been since the system has given me a quest?’

‘Quest information” He said as he waited in anticipation for the system to tell him what to do.

[ Quest Information.

World Quest: Speak to the person eavesdropping on your room to start the quest.

Quest information: The world has changed. But you have remained the same. The demons have decreased in strength as the other races have had to deal with an even bigger threat. Find out more about this threat.

Quest time remaining: Two months.}

‘Two months? That is a really short time for a world quest. Usually, they took years to expire. The only reason for the quest to expire so soon is if the quest giver is killed…’ He thought as he heard some movement behind the door.

“System close.”

He got up of the bed and walked over to the door. He put his hand on the door handle and then pulled the door back from its frame before dropping it on the floor.

“Ah!” A voice called out.

“At first he didn’t see anything as he was used to looking up at the demons. He then looked down. To around half of his own hight. And then he says her.

It was a young demon girl. She looked to be around thirteen or fourteen in human years but demons aged much slower than humans so, in reality, she could be closer to twenty.

Kaito looked down at the demon girl with long silver hair and pitch black horns. They were still small but he recognised it instantly.

‘Black horns? Aren’t they a sign of the royal family? Then this girl… She is… No, she can’t be can she? I didn’t think King Amon had a wife.

‘And I doubt anyone would even want to marry him. The only thing he loves more than sitting on his throne all day is annoying me. If someone ever was willing to marry him I would be surprised.’ He thought and then looked down at the kid.

They just stared at each other in silence, None of them wanted to be the first one to talk. A few minutes went by before Kaito finally gave in.

“Urm… So what do you want from me?” He asked her.

She looked back confused and almost jumped as he asked her.

“Ugh, Well… My dad sent me here to organise some papers or something. He didn’t really tell me. He just told me to come here and follow your every order.” She explained.

“Oh, Okay… Then get on with it. Start by stacking the papers up in order.” He said and then went back to his bed to lie down.

He lay on his bed for a few minutes whilst he thought back to how he ended up in this situation.
