Chapter 6 - Moonie

Leo swallowed, realizing this wasn’t just a brute beast - It was clever. He’d assumed it was a lumbering giant, but it’s clear now he’d underestimated it. ‘Why does Sunny seem so much simpler in comparison?’ he thought, recalling how Sunny had been ensnared by the Electric Python in their previous fight.

Shaking off the thought, Leo called out, "Sunny, full power! Use your Umbra Veil skill!"

Obeying the command, Sunny unleashed a thick, dark fog that enveloped the bear, obscuring its vision completely. The Terra Bear, sensing the disadvantage, began to panic, its instincts warning it to retreat. Unable to see its opponents, the bear made a swift decision: escape.

Leo watched, astonished, as the bear, which had been a image of raw power, turned tail, raised a paw to shield its head, and bolted through the trees, leaving Sunny chasing it in a cloud of fog.

Leo stood there, speechless. ‘This thing is too clever!’ he thought, stifling a laugh.

After a moment, Leo snapped back and quickly took off after the fleeing Terra Bear. Its massive footprints left deep pits in the forest floor, marking an easy trail for him to follow. Before long, he had caught up, observing as Sunny clung persistently to the bear, following it like a relentless shadow.

"Sunny! Stick to it! Use hit-and-run tactics! Wear it down," Leo commanded.

Sunny flew close to the bear, darting in to peck and claw at its exposed spots. If the bear swung a paw, Sunny would quickly fly out of reach, only to swoop back in as soon as it stopped. Frustrated, the Terra Bear let out a roar that sent other nearby beasts scattering. Sunny, however, was relentless, chasing the bear and pecking at it fiercely.

The strange sight of two beasts and one person rushing through the forest would have been almost comical if not for the tension in the air. After what felt like hours, Leo figured the bear must be tired by now. But when he looked closer, his heart sank—the bear’s physical strength hadn’t waned. In fact, the pits left by its footsteps were even deeper than before.

“What’s going on, System?” Leo whispered, confused.

[The target madou is undergoing evolution. Its stats are increasing as the process continues.]

Leo's eyes widened. The longer they fought, the more powerful the bear was becoming. If it completed its transformation, Leo and Sunny would be in serious danger. ‘We can’t keep waiting. If this thing fully transforms, we’re done for.’

Summoning his courage, Leo made a decision. "Sunny, get in close! Use your armor to block its claws!”

Leo charged forward as well, diving into the black cloud of mist Sunny had created, determined to end the fight. The Terra Bear, irritated by Sunny’s relentless harassment, was seething with fury. Unable to run or fight effectively, it let loose a ferocious swipe, claws sparking against Sunny’s armored feathers.

Lightning flashed through the mist as the battle heated up. Seeing his chance, Leo hurled the cube he’d collected as rewards, aiming at the Terra Bear. The cube glinted briefly before they disappeared into the swirling black cloud. Leo held his breath and took cover behind a bush, waiting.

With a sudden burst of white light, the bear vanished from sight, leaving only a few arcs of crackling electricity dissipating in the air.

‘Did it work?’

[Capturing… 75%…100%…!!!]

Leo breathed a sigh of relief, realizing he’d been just moments away from facing a fully evolved, possibly unstoppable bear. He shivered slightly, thinking about how close he’d come to disaster. ‘If I hadn’t acted when I did… things would’ve ended very differently.’

Grinning, he glanced over at his two new allies. With Sunny’s jet black feathers and the Terra Bear’s shimmering golden fur, he figured “Moonie” was a fitting name.

‘It’s good pair with sunny, maybe next one I will name it star.’

[Name Set: Moonie (Terra Bear)]

Now with Sunny and Moonie by his side, Leo felt invincible. He gathered some loot and mounted Sunny for the flight back to the nest, where he let Sunny rest and tend to his wounds. As night fell, Leo used vines, leaves, and wood he’d collected to build a makeshift bed.

When he woke the next morning, the first rays of sun were breaking over the horizon, filling him with renewed energy. Looking around, he noticed Sunny was gone, while Moonie was busy gnawing on a massive rat.

“…Where did you find that thing?” Leo muttered, frowning at the blood and fur scattered around. Moonie glanced at him, licked his paw, and pointed one claw to the sky. Following the direction, Leo spotted Sunny swooping back with a rabbit clutched in his talons.

“So you two went hunting, huh?” he laughed, and with his sword, chopped some wood to start a small fire. Soon, the smell of roasting meat filled the air, drifting over to Moonie and Sunny, who sniffed and glanced at the raw meat under their claws, suddenly unimpressed.

Leo chuckled, watching as the two creatures eyed him hopefully. He waved them over and cooked a few extra skewers, feeding Sunny piece by piece and handing a skewer to Moonie, who clumsily tried to hold it like Leo. The sight of the giant bear nibbling on a small skewer was both hilarious and heartwarming.

After breakfast, Leo patted Sunny and rallied his two companions. "Let’s go hunting. We’ll target low-level beasts today to get me some levels.”

Sunny flew him over to an area filled with weaker beasts, and together with Moonie, they tore through the creatures like a whirlwind. Leo harvested the spoils, sorting out the best cuts to keep and auctioning off the rest. Before long, word spread, and the world channel buzzed with chatter.

“How is this guy bringing in so much madou beast meat?”

“He’s selling meat like it’s nothing! Is he cheating?”

Arguments erupted across various channels, filled with disbelief and speculation. But then, a sudden announcement silenced everyone.

[System Notice: Since the first player (ARC152789) has reached level 10, Madou Survival game will officially begin!!! May fortune smile on you]

After a brief silence, the world chat exploded with messages.

"The hell, is this the same player?"

"Wait, for real? Level 10?! No wonder he's out here farming madou like it's nothing."

"Hold up—how's he doing this? I just made a harpoon to spear a few fish, barely scraped my way to level 3…"

"LMAO, I'm dying over here. And what’s this 'game officially starting' nonsense? I’m out here still trying to craft basic gear and survive!"

Leo glanced at his own ID displayed in the system notice, confirming he was indeed the first player to hit level 10. While that was impressive, he didn’t feel overly thrilled. If the game was officially starting now, it meant things were about to get tougher, and many players would soon realize survival was no longer as simple as spearing fish.

As he continued reading the chat, a familiar name appeared—an anonymous player with familiar avatar who had previously offered him blueprints for armor. This time, the message read, “Want the blueprint for a D grade Shelter ?”
