Skepticism

As the discussion continued, it was Evelynne's turn to address the issue at hand. Without any hesitation, she sat upright with a straight posture and cleared her throat before speaking. Her confident tone echoed through the room as she began to express her thoughts. "Please understand," she said, pausing briefly to make sure that everyone was paying attention to her. "We, the people of our land, lack the essential knowledge of your nation or, in this case, your so-called 'empire'," she continued, emphasizing the word 'empire' with a hint of sarcasm in her voice.

Evelynne then turned her gaze towards Lyra, the one who proposed the idea of our nation becoming a vassal state. "Given that," she said, gesturing towards Lyra, "it is only natural for us to refuse such a proposal. We cannot simply hand over our sovereignty and independence without having a clear understanding of the consequences and benefits that come with it," she explained. Evelynne's words carried weight and meaning, and her argument was backed by logic and reason.

Lyra's dissatisfaction reached its peak as her emotions began to manifest themselves in a clear and unmistakable way, as evidenced by the slight frown on her face. In an almost choreographed movement, she stood up from her seat, her eyes fixed solely on Evelynne, conveying her disappointment and frustration.

With a noticeable undertone of irritation, she spoke with a commanding presence, "I implore you to enlighten me, my dear Evelynne, what other options do you have at your disposal?" Her tone was forceful and intense, echoing the urgency of the situation at hand. "You are left with two choices, either submit and relinquish some of your freedom, or face complete conquest in a month's time," Lyra stated unequivocally.

Lyra paused for a moment, shifting her gaze briefly to include me in her line of sight, before fixing her eyes back on Evelynne with the same unwavering intensity. "I urge you to ponder over this critical decision carefully, and choose wisely," she added, with a sense of conviction and gravity in her voice that left no room for doubt or indecision.

Evelynne, slowly rose to her feet, her hands clasped in front of her, as she attempted to quell the growing apprehension she felt towards Lyra. Despite the nervous fluttering in her chest, she took a deep breath and spoke with conviction, a determined look etched upon her face. "It is imperative that we proceed with caution," she began, her voice ringing clear and steady across the room. "For us to consider your proposal, Lyra, we require substantial proof and evidence of your claims."

With a measured tone, Evelynne continued, her words ringing with authority. "After all, it is not every day that someone appears out of nowhere, claiming to have the solution to our problems. It is our duty to safeguard the welfare of our nation and its people, and we cannot afford to take risks without concrete evidence." As she spoke, she held Lyra's gaze steadily, her eyes unflinching and determined.

Evelynne's words echoed through the chamber, each syllable laced with the weight of responsibility and caution. She knew that the decision we were about to make would have far-reaching consequences, and she was not willing to gamble the future of our nation without solid proof. As she finished speaking, she lowered her hands, her posture remaining dignified and poised, as she awaited Lyra's response.

At this crucial moment, as tensions were high and the fate of our nation hung in the balance, Aragorn felt it was necessary to interject. With a sense of urgency in his voice, he spoke up and raised his left hand to adjust his monocle, which he had been holding all along. His brow was furrowed with concern as he addressed the group gathered before him, his gaze shifting between Lyra and Evelynne.

"We currently find ourselves in a dire situation," he began, his words carrying weight and gravity. "But that does not mean we cannot find a compromise to this proposal that Lady Lyra had mentioned," he continued, his voice calm yet firm, showing his steadfast resolve.

However, Lyra, ever the confident and commanding presence, was quick to shut down any notion of negotiation. She spoke with an air of authority and condescension, her eyes fixed on Aragorn but seemingly speaking to the group as a whole. "I am afraid you are in no position to negotiate," she declared, her tone leaving no room for argument. "I presented everyone with a choice, and it would be advantageous for you all to accept it. If you don't, your nation will face the risk of being conquered," she warned, her words dripping with a sense of foreboding.

Kaelen, who had been standing firmly in place for some time, shifted his weight onto one foot and took a small, measured step forward, as if moving closer to Lyra would somehow lend more weight to his words. With a somewhat pleading expression etched upon his face, he looked directly at her and began to speak. "Let's just say, hypothetically speaking, that we were to entertain the possibility of accepting your proposal and becoming a vassal state," he said, his voice tinged with a hint of curiosity as he contemplated the potential implications of such a decision. "It would be wise for us to consider how this would impact our way of life, and how things would change for us," he continued, his words carefully chosen and delivered with purposeful intent.

Lyra looked at Kaelen with an expression of mild surprise, raising an eyebrow and tilting her head to the side as if to say "Oh, really?" Her lips curved into a small, almost imperceptible smile, but her eyes gleamed with a glimmer of excitement.

In a low and smooth voice, Lyra spoke confidently, as if she could see the future unfolding before her very eyes: "I truly believe that if your nation were to become our vassal state, it would lead to a significant increase in power and wealth for your people."

She paused for a moment, letting her words sink in before continuing, "But it wouldn't just be beneficial for you. Our empire would also gain a considerable amount of territory, which would increase our land holdings. And with our reputation spreading far and wide, the world would come to know the strength and power of our great empire."

Lyra sat back in her chair, crossing her arms and nodding her head slowly, as if lost in deep thought. "Yes, the benefits would be great for both of our nations if we were to form this alliance."

I cannot help but feel that the envisioned future seems entirely implausible, akin to a whimsical tale spun by a fanciful author. It appears to be a notion so far removed from the realm of reality that it evokes incredulity and disbelief from those who hear of it, as if it were a figment of someone's overactive imagination.

The idea of our nation growing, expanding and flourishing is one that is met with skepticism by those in this very room. Evelynne, in particular, appears to be highly skeptical of the possibility, as she vehemently expresses her disbelief by extending her arms outwards and contorting her facial features into a look of utter incredulity. She directs her words towards Lyra, the one putting forth this ambitious vision for the future. "Even if it were true, not all of us can believe such a far-fetched idea"

Despite the existence of a few optimists in the room who may harbor some hope for this vision to become a reality, the prevailing sentiment is one of doubt and cynicism. The very idea that our nation could achieve unprecedented levels of growth and prosperity seems almost like an unattainable dream, a lofty goal that is impossible to achieve in the harsh reality of the world we inhabit.

The tense atmosphere in the room continued to escalate as the unexpected happened: Lyra didn't speak up, but instead it was Aurora who broke the silence. Her arms were crossed as she sat calmly in her seat, and she directed her words towards Evelynne with a tone that was both calm and understanding.

"There's no need to fret," Aurora reassured Evelynne, her conviction shining through her words. "If it's proof you want, then that's exactly what you'll get." Her words were confident and assertive, making it clear that she was willing to do whatever it takes to prove her point.

I couldn't help but feel a sense of confusion as I looked at Aurora. How could she be so sure that she could provide the proof that Evelynne was asking for? Without missing a beat, I decided to speak up and voice my concerns.

"How will you make that happen?" I questioned, my confusion evident in my voice. Aurora simply smiled softly at me, her gaze meeting mine as she spoke.

"Of course, by demonstrating our military might," she replied confidently, as if there were no other option available to her. The way she spoke suggested that she had a great deal of faith in her military, and that she believed they were more than capable of proving their point through force if necessary.

Would she bring her army to our nation and march them like a grand parade, showcasing her military might and superiority over us? Or would she surprise us with a completely different strategy, one that we couldn't even fathom? As I pondered over these possibilities, my mind was consumed with uncertainty, confusion, and most of all, doubt. I turned to her, and with a quiver in my voice, I spoke, "Your military might? I'm sorry, but I do not understand." My words were laced with honesty.

With a grace that belied her authority, Aurora replied to my question without the slightest hesitation. Her voice was clear and firm, as if she had been preparing for this moment for ages. "We shall bring our army to your shores by way of ships," she declared, her words ringing out like a clarion call. But she did not stop there. No, Aurora was not content with simply giving me the answer I sought. With a confidence that bespoke her leadership, she continued, "That is all. You will understand the full scope of our plan as soon as our forces arrive on your shores." And with those words, she left no doubt in my mind that she was not to be trifled with. For in her voice I could hear the strength and conviction of a true leader, one who would stop at nothing to achieve her goal.
