Hunger

Falkner walked towards the mountain with an almost empty sack. rubbing the clean shave he just had that morning just because I might go hungry doesn't mean I have to look like a barbarian. Nyssa walked behind in silence over the death of Stormbreaker. It's been days since he died. We have more pressing concerns right now. She needs to get it together. but of course she won’t and I will have to pick up the slack because of it. After hours of waking in silence the sun began to set and they made camp, ate dinner and went to bed in silence in a hollowed out tree.

After two days of walking and talking about child stories when they grew up and who made their parents frustrated. Anything to keep their minds off food, the mountain looming over them, then he saw a pheasant. Nyssa stopped where she stood as Falkner sneaked up on it then it flew away running after it fling cones of flame missing it by inches. He screamed in rage and despair. I was so close!

After an hour of walking Falkner was still in a sour mood since they ran out of food yesterday. All he could see was light snow on the ground and trees, nothing else besides some rocks and a sword. Falkner stopped right in his tracks

“what is it?” Nyssa asked

“a sword in a tree” It sparkled like a diamond. It had to be Celestial iron. right in one of the higher branches in imbedded in the bark. Nyssa’s eyes grew wide as she saw it too. it won’t solve our hunger issues but every knight dreams about owning a sword made by the gods themselves. reaching the base of the oak tree and climbing without stopping, that sword won’t break or dull sure I’ll have to drop my steel sword but who cares Falkner thought. as he climbed hand by hand. Soon he was almost there. I just needed to reach for it leaning close to the right. as Falkner grabbed the hilt.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

It disappeared. startled. Falkner lost his balance and fell as the bench broke off ten feet onto his back taking the wind out of him. trying to get air into his lungs. Nyssa laughed at the whole thing and he heard giggling all around him then he knew

“fairies,” Falkner grunted. his back hurt; it felt like he was hit with a hammer.

“Are you going to help me up or just stand there with a grin on your face? it's not funny!” Nyssa grabbed Falkner’s hand and helped him up. He picked up his kite shield and sled it over his shoulder again.

“It was funny to me” then she grew serious, her face rigged

“we're going to die here aren't we” Nyssa said

“We will make their food somewhere we just have to find it,” Falkner said, trying to be upbeat given the circumstances. “Hey fairies!, could you help us out!” Falkner called beautiful women with butterfly wings surrounding them. They were about a foot tall then with a giggle they scattered in all directions leaving Falkner and Nyssa to fend for themselves “hey come back here!” Falkner screamed

“Let's just go, they won’t help us,” Nyssa said. On the edge of tears. With that they started walking towards the mountain again empty stomachs and empty hopes. Falkner’s eyes were on fire due to frustration. But who cares anymore those fairies left us to die and giggled about it! After hours the sun still had an hour or two to set but they were too tired so they made camp, ate snow for dinner, built a small fire and went to bed.

It’s been five days of slowly walking and starving. I feel like I’m losing my sanity. we can’t keep going like this as tears of pain fell down his cheeks. Each foot felt like lead weights were tied to his legs. He almost tried to take on a bull elk yesterday but knew he would lose. It was too quick and they were too weak to take it on. nothing plant could be editable because they couldn't find any.

shivering from the cold and his armor was the only warmth they had since ditching everything they could except what they wore and a few things in their pack my stomach hurt as did Nyssa’s I’m sure. we just need a nap right?
