A girl with white-hair, similar to white tulips gazed at the flowers in the garden, her eyes were like the azure blue skies, while her gentle gaze seemed to heal the soul of the flowers she was staring at.
Although I was simply passing by Bedivere, She was one known for hearing, so it won’t be a surprise if she already knows I’m here. As soon as I took another step forward, Bedivere’s head turned around and her eyes locked into mine, we stared at each other for a few moments before breaking eye contact.
“Oh. Krux. What brings you here?”
“I was checking on the flower, it seems like you’re already here. I’ll be taking my lea-”
“Wait!” Bedivere unusually suddenly exclaimed before I could fully turn round and leave. As I turned my head around, I saw the Bedivere who was now flustered. “W-would you mind chatting with me for a bit?” Bedivere asked shyly, she wasn’t the type to suddenly increase the volume of her voice.
Bedivere was a loner, an introvert basically, the same as me. Despite that, she’s one talkative. The fact is she’s very shy around others, especially when it's not me. Arthur told me to keep her company in time, since Bedivere gets lonely too.
I gazed at Bedivere’s eyes, I could quite tell she’s finally coming out of her shell little by little. Although she gets adored by others, her meek attitude seems to hinder a lot when it comes to talking to others.
I then started to approach her and sat beside her on the porch, her gaze still glued to the flowers she had in the garden. For some reason, she was one that loved flowers, extremely so to the point where she even used up a part of the backyard for her garden.
Out of all of us, she’s one that had the most peaceful wish after the orphanage, which is to live a peaceful life as a gardener, she wants to live in the countryside as a normal country bumpkin girl. Her wishes were just as elegant and peaceful just like her appearance.
“What did you want to say to me?” I asked, while my eyes averted to her eyes, her head turned around to look at me before a graceful smile decorated her already beautiful face.
“What’s your favorite flower?” She asked, before a sweep of breezing air passed by through us, the grass started to sway in the direction, while we still both stared at both eyes, as if they were locked in time.
“White tulips.” I said without much thought, Bediver’s eyes widened for a bit, before her hand immediately went up to cover her soft giggles like a mother singing a lullaby to a child. Her hand hid the lower part of her face, while she kept a thin smile on her face.
“I wasn’t expecting that from you, why white tulips?” Bedivered asked before, using her arms, hopping using her butt to get closer to me, a soft fragrance entered my nose, similar to a bouquet of flowers, I couldn’t quite explain the smell she radiated.
She was like a goddess, beautiful, kind and caring. Her smile was like the dawn, the sun seeing you rise up while it smiles as it gaze upon you.
“White tulips, because they remind me of you.” It didn’t really mean anything. I saw her elegance and beauty as similar to a flower. And because white tulips really do remind me of Bedivere, and she’s someone I didn’t want to forget.
Though I was expecting a response like, thank you, or you’re so kind, in a nice gentle voice, what I got was somehow confusing. Bedivere’s face jolted in surprise, while a deep red hue spread all throughout her cheeks, the tip of her elf ears red.
“That… was quite unfair, catching me off guard like that.” She said before she turned her face around, as if hiding the flustering blush she had on her face right now, though I don’t quite see any problem in my sentence, it’s a simple compliment, how is it unfair and why are you doing this reaction?
“I heard that, in flower language, white tulips have the meaning pure.” I commented about it. “So I decided to use it as my basis to associate it with you.” I explained further while the tip of her ears got redder and redder. “Actually, are you sick? Do you need a doctor?”
“N-no…” She said in her usual meek voice, although this time was much weaker. I could see her slap herself with her two palms, as if trying to wake up from something, and gradually the red tip of her ears were finally gone.
She turned her head around, and finally faced me, eye to eye, once more locking eyes in each other, which somehow made the Bedivere on my side all giddy and stuff. Girls are quite scary aren’t they, I heard that when a girl is in period she would have mood swings.
“Then…” Bedivere reached out her hand for a certain flower in the bushes, a certain deep red rose, she plucked it off gently with a quiet snap. She lifted it up and approached me, before swiping the hair that covered my ears.
She gently placed the flower on top of my ear, as if decorating me with a rose. “Do you know what a red rose means in flower language?”
“What does it mean?”
“A secret! When you finally know the answer, could you come back to me and answer it then? I want you to answer it with a flower too.” She shyly said while fidgeting with her fingers, though this whole sequence of events kind of left me in a somewhat weird expression of her.
“Do I answer with a red rose too?” I asked, quite confused about all of this stuff, while a blush formed in her face, yet she kept a soft smile on her face.
“That depends on your answer.”
“My answer…”
“You can be quite dense, you know, Krux. But that’s a part of why I’ve fallen for you.” She said, her voice seemed to be so peaceful at this moment.
“Fallen?”
“Nothing~!”

…
Bedivere, huh? Granted, she was a massive enigma to us, but she was someone that we all adored. An extremely shy person, it was different when it comes to being alone with her, she would spend hours and hours talking about flowers, while I could only listen.
However, I’m not one that’s complaining, her talks were interesting plus I’d rather listen than talk. She would ask me multiple questions as if trying to know me more, but even up to this day, I still don’t know what a red rose means.
Well, partly because I didn’t make an effort to know it… Out of all of the 13 of us, she was said to be the weakest by the others, but underestimating her would get you killed. Her style focuses more on trying to hit you once in the heart or in the brain.
Her swordsmanship was similar to a dance, no it was a dance, a blinding dance in a field of flowers. She seemed to be like a fairy, she avoided clashes with the blade and rather would just dodge attacks before making a counter-attack.
The true meaning of float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. And she was an elf, yeah, the 12 of us were normal humans, but she was an elf, an elf that had no talent for spirit magic and mana. It’s a miracle she survived even after being borned like that.
Elf nobles would immediately execute their own child after knowing that they don’t have the talent for being one with mana. Commoners would keep them usually, but all we can assume is that Bedivere was a noble elf that got abandoned.
I stared at the backyard with an empty face. Quite an empty one despite being spacious, Bedivere would like a space like this, next thing you know it’s covered in a thousand blooming flowers with different petals.
Fyuma had gone home, and Krus and Arthur were sleeping inside, plus it would be morning soon, the mist was thick after all. If I have time right now, I could probably go to the adventurer’s guild, but since I have to take care of Krus.
That just doesn’t mean I can take Krus suddenly out of nowhere, adventuring with her, that would be a big no. She was simply 9 years old, doing that would get me in a lot of trouble. But before that I suddenly heard the door knock.
The sound of hands banging softly on a wooden door entered my ears, I pushed my body up, before heavily standing up from the porch. I silently opened the door to the backyard, approaching the door.
Opening it slightly, what was present in the doorway, was Regolius. “Oh? Chief, what brings you here?” Though usually he’d visit somewhere along the night, a day off?
“I got a day off, and since I had a lot of time on my hands I decided to spend it with my daughter.” Regolius smiled with a content smile, peeking slightly over my shoulders, to look at the Krus and Arthur who were sleeping together.
As a response, I immediately moved my body away to get him a better look at his own daughter. “Come in.” There’s no pizza left, I guess I could make some coffee? “Would you like coffee?”
“No, no it’s fine. Still as polite as ever. I thought I told you to call me Regolius when we’re not in public?” Regolius giggled roughly before stepping inside of the house, I brought him over to the table. I pushed the chair a bit before taking a seat.
“Well, it’s more like a sign of respect, it would be simply wrong to call you that.” I replied to his comment, while Regolius crossed his arms.
“Is that so? Anyways, has my daughter been a bother?” Regolius asked, while his eyes averted to the Krus who had a peaceful face, sleeping, the chief adoring his own daughter’s sleeping face while smiling.
“She hasn’t been a bother, though chief, can I ask you a question?” This question has been hanging in my head, ever since my dream of Bedivere, or rather my memories.
“Yes, go ahead.” Regolius said, before I made a long odd pause.
“Do you know what red rose means?” I asked, a bit hesitant in my tone, while Regolius only sighed, he then smiled before averting his eyes to me.
“I don’t know that, but you can ask the florist over there, near Hermis, she’s a nice lady who likes flowers, I’m sure she knows.” Regolius pointed a bit on the west, before putting down his arm. “Are you perhaps gardening now?”
“Yes, for an old friend, she really liked flowers, you see.” I said while the face of Bedivere appeared in my head, the lustrous white hair, and azure blue skies she had, and her graceful thin smile that seemed to lit the heavens.
“This may seem vexing, but is that friend of yours, gone?” Regolius used the word gone, not dead. I could understand the sheer magnitude of saying the word, dead. Such a simple word, yet so hard to say in situations like this.
“Yes.” I could only reply in a weak voice, my gaze fell to the wooden table right below us while Regolius kept quiet, seemingly giving me a moment to calm my mind down, though I’ve long accepted her death.
“Then… how about coming with us, I’m planning to take my daughter around town, and at that time we can take you to the florist.” Regolius suggested, happy with his suggestion, my eyes went up once more to look at Regolius’ smiling face.
“No you don’t have to-”
“I insist. It would be better for Krus too, plus my day off is two days.” Two days? I asked inwardly.
“Then, I’ll accept. But for two days, is there any reason why?” I asked while Regolius suddenly made a dry scoff.
“There’s going to be a festival in like two weeks, and since I’m needed in that festival there’s going to be tons of workload, so I’m resting for now.” Regolius explained.
“A festival?” I whispered, quiet enough for Regolius to not hear, but then the chief’s eyes seemed to widen.
“Now that I heard it. You were planning to make a shop, aren’t you? Shakti told me about it.” Regolius started to comment about the pizzeria I was going to do, though it’s simply an idea, doesn’t mean I’m making it.
“Ah, that was simply a rough plan, I don’t think we’ll see it soon. In fact right now, I’d want to do things as an adventurer first.” However, I’ve already planned out most of the things the restaurant needs.
“I see, an adventurer here brings in a lot of fortune, I too was an adventurer before being ascended as chief. Though if you need help when it comes to it, you can ask Shakti. He’s a very reliable man.” Regolius said before smiling. The face of Shakti entered my mind.
A reliable man, I can agree with that, Shakti is one that gives a lot of information. Not only that, a lot of people come to talk to him, he really must be popular around here.
“I see then. Although tomorrow, there’s a place that I’d want to visit, I’ll be out of town for a while.” I said with a small smile.
“Hm? Well, if you really want to.” Regolius hummed a bit before agreeing with my choice. The place that I wanted to go to was the graves of Arthur and the others.
It’s been months after a visit after all.
…
“Krux. If we ever get out of this war, can you promise me that you’ll stay beside me for eternity.”
“What’s wrong, Bedivere?”
“Forget what I said…”
