Chapter 35 - Price of Progress

Chapter 35 - Price of Progress

Aria walked into the main hall. She had given up on finding anything for a while, but stepping into the empty main hall gave her a happy feeling of progression.

Her joy was short lived however, as she heard a voice across the end of the hall. One that was raspy and eerie.

“And just when I thought this day couldn’t get better! Darling, Aria, you look so stunning today. I want to eat your tiny little face up!”

Raven entered the door on the other side with Neville close behind her. Neville was holding a grotesque severed head at the end of a spear. Aria was in disbelief.

Aria: “Is that Flen?”

Raven: “And you’ll be next! Isn;t that just so amazing? Right Neville darling?”

Neville nodded slightly.

Neville: “Yes, of course Madame Raven.”

Raven: “Ooh Madam. I do love a good title. It suits me. I’ve decided Neville. You are on my love list!”

Neville: “Yeah that’s great.”

As he finished his reply, Raven grabbed his face, crushing it in her hands. She licked the blood and bits of flesh from her hand before laughing maniacally.

Raven: “Ohhh, Toren’s gonna hate me for killing his little friend. That’s okay, I’ll just add him to my collection too!.”

Raven was so lost in her own fantasies, she didn’t notice Aria rushing towards her with a deadly dagger of ice. Raven held up her hand to defend just at the last moment. The blade cut clean through her arm, cutting it off.

Raven: “Wowie!”

Aria: “There's still more, you psycho bitch!”

Aria’s swordsmanship was truly one of pure art. She had surpassed the fluidity and agility of the most talented Dancing Blades without even using their techniques. Through sheer practice and physical prowess, she had created a style that one wasn’t born with, but rather one they earned.

Aria moved her blade upwards, slicing Raven’s check in one motion. Raven took advantage of this by pointing three fingers at Aria’s midriff. A small spear shot out at a rapid velocity, puncturing through Aria’s core. Raven continued by kicking Aria and sending the Spear back towards Aria’s chest while shooting a new spear with her hands.

Aria used her dagger to slice away both spears. She no longer had away snarky one-liners. She was too focused on the battle. Raven continued to throw unhinged dialogue, but Aria was zoning it out, slowly chipping away at Raven with her dagger.

Unfortunately, not only did Raven have an attack so fast its output speed matched even those in the First Division, she was also extremely good at dodging. Despite missing part of her arm and losing massive amounts of blood, Raven hadn’t slowed down even a bit. Meanwhile, it was taking all of Aria’s focus just to dodge the sudden small spears launched at her with little warning.

As the fight continued, Aria dug her foot into the ice. There was one way she could win this.

Go faster than ever before.

She dashed without warning, driving her knee into Raven, taking them both down and grinding down her dagger on Raven’s head. Raven summoned a small spear, but the dagger broke through it, and stuck itself into Raven's arm. They fell to the ground with Aria on top of Raven, pinning her down. She lifted up her dagger for a finishing blow, but stopped when Raven yelled, “Look!”

Raven was holding Flen’s unattached head and had out it between herself and caused Aria to hesitate momentarily. With a large grin, she used three of her fingers resting upon the top of the head to shoot out a thin spear through Aria’s head.

Raven giggled, shoving Aria’s limp body off of her.

Raven: “I finally, finally, finally get to defile your corpse!”

As she leaned into her victim, a hand passed through her chest. There stood Kaen, lightning emanating from his entire body.

Raven: “Kaen, you-”

Kaen: “Die bitch.”

Purple electricity coursed through Raven’s entire body. She fell to the ground face first.

Kaen walked over to Aria’s corpse.

Kaen: “I’m sorry you had to suffer like this. I should’ve been faster.”

He looked around at the bloody mess around him before taking a long breath, the lightning around him fading away.

End.
