In the midst of an empty meadow, a small boy sat on his own. The bangs of his bright green hair drifted gently in the whispering wind. Tall green grass danced rhythmically as the boy’s hands dug into the dirt. Yellow dandelions shone brightly, the delicate yellow color making a harsh contrast with the endless green around. His feet dangled over the edge of a cliff, the pace of his legs changing by the second.
The boy stared at the sky. It was a deep picture of never ending blue. He had spent his morning counting every cloud in the sky whilst they drifted in their own unique shapes without restraint. He hummed a soft tune, a melody of his childhood. He tried meshing it with the sounds of chirping birds in the background, but was disheartened upon feeling his pitch was off.
A butterfly flew gently in the background, landing from flower to flower. It slowly made its way to the small boy, landing underneath his nose. The boy, who had been lost in his own thoughts, was startled by the fluttering red wings. He waved it away out of instinct, only to miss the butterfly. He watched with a sense of innocent curiosity as the butterfly hovered before him. He held his pointer finger out, and the butterfly landed on his finger. Both of them made no movements for a minute. Once that minute passed, the butterfly’s patience had ran thin, and its wings flapped once again. It fluttered over the cliff, fading away into the distance.

The boy looked at the butterfly leaving. It got smaller and smaller, until it could no longer be seen. He took that moment to stare underneath the cliff he was on. It was a great sight that he was quite accustomed to. Purple liquid stretched farther than any eye could reach. A bubbling body of liquid poison that prevented any from ever crossing. With its great existence came many stories. Most were gruesome. But the boy wasn’t scared. For him, his fate was something far greater to fear. The uncrossable poison held a different symbolism. The boy began to mutter to himself.
“I wonder, if I somehow manage to cross that poison, will I finally be free?”
A loud voice called out suddenly, its tone harsh and desperate.
”Flynn! Flynn!”
End.
