Chapter 1 - Worker's compensation.

"I am here to sign up for the hunter's exam" A young man, with short messy hair, asked one of available receptionist.

"Please fill this form out and the fee will be 300 points" the receptionist replied as they handed the young man the form, they were neutral in their expression.

The young man filled out the form and handed it back to the receptionist.

"Thank you," the receptionist quickly glanced at the form, "Ken - your exam date will be confirmed and notified to you, within the week."

"Thank you," Ken stated and he exited the large office.

Ken looked around, exhaled - and started limping toward the direction of his home, outskirt of the downtown where he currently lives.

Scrounged enough for the hunter's exam, hopefully, I can pass it, Ken thought to himself, rubbing his elbow not recovering from the fall he had earlier today - My healing factor is not proficient enough.

He eventually found himself in his apartment in the small town of locket, set bordered against the wall that radiate a barrier that keeps the monsters out. Fortunately, the rent of cheap - no one wants to live next to potential danger.

It took a while to reach back to his place as there was no active bus system, he had to change to his work attire, getting ready quickly.

He traveled to his workplace not too far from his home, noticing a small group of people belonging to a gang bothering someone else this time around. Not today, you fools. Not today. He thought to himself in tension as he tried to skirt around the gangsters without getting their attention, succeeding.

He arrives at his workplace. It was called “Locket’s Federation Cleanup Crew”. It was mainly responsible cleaning up any major infrastructure problems.

His boss notified him, “Hey Ken, we are up for cleaning a big spill, get ready. We are heading out in a bit."

“Sure thing” Ken went to his locker, and he thought to himself as he exhaled Looks like another long night.

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

He nodded along to all his other 5 workmates as they were also ready. He waited to head out, breathing in and out, to relieve whatever anxiety he had ruminating. It didn't help.

“Alright, let’s head out.” His boss declared and everyone followed him to the small truck, that had all the necessary equipment to repair and do any cleanup required. Everyone settled and headed towards the site of spillage.

Ken exited the truck as they arrived at the scene of the spillage of contamination due to the dimensional rift opening nearby.

Smells like rotten egg, Ken covered his nose.

He observed the gaseous air surrounding the area, and he wore a mask like his coworkers.

He noticed the discoloration of the pool where the spillage was reported, potentially coming from a source leak near the factory, that is used to dismantle monsters for parts.

“Ken, ready to dive and inspect” His boss declared to him.

Ken nodded, and he has gotten ready, wearing protective diving gear – and began to calibrate his sensor for any abnormality to be reported back.

He was preparing to dive, while the rest of his co-workers were setting up tools to fix the things that will be required.

He couldn’t but overhear the other co-worker “This is too close to the federation, what has happened to the barrier?”

Ken was ready to dive, and he signaled his boss for the go ahead. He received it, and he dove into the giant pool. His diving helmet provided the location of the fracture of a pipe, where there was leakage. He notified his boss. "Adam, found the fracture from a pipe, thinking we'll need some band aid fix for now. Not sure how this came about."

"Alright, come back up, other will go down to do a preliminary fix, I'll call in the federation and the nearby factory to have them close their sewage line." His boss replied.

As Ken was coming up - he felt something grabbing him. Oh shit! Ken panic, he triggered an emergency button that would notify his boss of the situation of a potential monster breach.

Unfortunately for him, something that grabbed also threw him out of the pool. The whiplash Ken felt, made him nearly faint. Ken was flying, cutting through the air, with little consciousness he had - he tried to utilize any safeguard he had, but failed to do so. He landed with severe impact, breaking most bones as he landed facing up towards the sky - his consciousness fade to black.

As his consciousness fade to black - the same time, a cube not visible to anyone else, fused with Ken's body.

"Oh no." Ken's boss gasped in horror, he dialed the federation hunter emergency line.

"Let's get out!" He told everyone he was responsible for.

He looked at Ken, who was bloodied to the point he assumed Ken was dead. He ran alongside his others worker thinking At least, I am only going to be responsible for funeral expense.
