Chapter 9: A discussion between friends

After finishing with the introductions, Thita and the other three sat on the chars near the table to properly discuss the details of their mission.

After an awkward moment of silence between the party, the silence ended up being broken by Leslie.

Looking towards Thita, she spoke.

"So, will you share with us what rank you are?"

Hearing her, Thita responded.

"I am a D rank in terms of magic."

Hearing such a straightforward answer, Paul spoke to Thita with amazement.

"A D rank? You must be quite talented then to be all by yourself."

"No actually, I don't really know how to use magic yet. Also, I am sorry for saying that this late, but I didn't come here alone. I just managed to find a group of people who would got towards this town. I am really not as special as you think."

Even though he could lie and have higher chances of them letting him participate in the quest, Thita decided to create another, less troublesome lie.

Trying to live up to this guy's expectation wouldn't be easy to achieve either way, so this way it was probably better. At least, that's what he hoped.

Hearing his apology, Paul laughed and spoke.

"No need to apologize my friend! It's my fault for making such assumptions! We don't need a strong member either way, just a guy who can give a decent fight will do!"

"Wait! Didn't we agree on inviting someone more experienced in combat?"

"There is no need to go that far Leslie! Just by looking at this guy, I can tell that he can stand his ground just fine. Me and Alex will be handling most of the combat after all!"

"But, don't we need at least someone with experience in fighting? What if we get surrounded once again? We need to be ready to defend from all sides!"

"I can fight."

Hearing his voice, the two of them and Alex turned their head to face them.

Listening to their conversation, Thita decided that this was perhaps a good time to speak from his side. Coming this far, just be dismissed from the party wasn't a very beneficial after all.

"See Leslie!"

Ignoring Paul's words, Leslie faced Thita and spoke.

"But didn't you say that you can't use magic? How can a mage who can't use magic fight?"

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

Hearing her worlds, Thita spoke with confidence.

"I may not be able to use magic yet, but I am at least decent in fighting."

"And with what do you fight with? I don't see you carring any sword or bow."

Hearing the question, Thita sighted. He didn't wanted to have to show this so soon but he had to, in order to convince her.

"I am more experienced with using this."

Putting his hand in one of his pockets, he took out a black colored pocket knife.

Usually showing such a weapon in his world might cause a commotion, but here seemed that weapons were a usual thing to carry around.

After showing it to the other three, they all stared at it with surprised looks.

"That's... are you sure that this is suited for combat?" Leslie said.

"Leslie, don't you get it?"

Hearing Paul's words, Leslie frowned.

"Get what?"

"Uh, so you don't. Then, have you ever heard the word assassin?"

Hearing those words, Leslie spoke with astonishment.

"Oh yeah! You mean those people with black clothes that backstab people, right?"

"Um, I suppose you could say it like that, even though it is a bit outdated."

"Outdated?"

"That's right! Even though most people know assasins like that, most of them are adventurers just like us. So instead of attacking people, most of them attack monsters and animals." Paul said with confidence.

"Is that so huh?"

Hearing their conversation and not wanting to be overestimated again, Thita spoke.

"I am sorry, but I am not an assassin. I am just more familiar with close combat."

"That's a bit of a disappointment, I really wanted to meet one for a long time. But as long as you can fight, that's all we need." Paul said.

"So, are you sure that you can handle, you know, killing the wolves that we will fight against?"

Alex, who hasn't spoked so far, said with a caring and concerning tone. As if, he himself has been in Thita's position once.

"If it's about killing and seeing blood, I can handle it."

Hearing his response, Alex felt reassured.

"I believe that settles it then! Welcome to our party Thita!"

Saying that, Paul stood up and placed his hand on Thita's shoulder.

"Wait a minute Paul! We haven't even discussed the details about the quest with him."

"You and your details again. You see Thita, this little girl over there is our party's healer, as crazy as it sounds. If you ever have trouble hearing her long talks, you just have to walk away. Trust me, it works every time!"

"How dare you, you muscle for brains as-!"

"Leslie, Paul! Please, not in front if our new member! Paul, Leslie is right. I also do belive that we should share whatever information about the mission we have with our new member. It would be unfair to not inform him. So please, don't speak about Leslie like that."

Hearing his words, Paul sighted.

"Whatever you say Alex. You two say whatever is needed to be said then. When you are done, you can find me in the training ground. I want to do some stretches before we leave."

Saying that, Paul left.

After leaving, Alex turned his head to face Thita and spoke with an apologetic tone.

"I am sorry for that. He tends to act up sometimes. I hope you can forgive him."

"It's alright, I don't really mind."

Hearing that, Alex felt reassured once again.

"So, now that the overgrown child left, let's get to the important details."

Leslie said nonchalantly, now that Paul was gone.

She then proceeded to explain to Thita, what they would expect to face. The number of wolves, the terain and even the formation that the wolves used to attack them.

She then explained how they should approache them and other important information, to the point that even Thita couldn't help but be amazed with how much though, she had put to it.

"I belive that's all. Any questions?"

Thita though and then responed.

"No, I belive that this is a solid plan."

Alex too didn't have any questions and responded in a similar way.

Hearing their answers, Leslie smiled.

"Then, let's get going. We have to pick Paul from the playground, or he might get hurt before the mission even started."
