Chapter 11: At least they are animals

Chapter 11: At least they are animals

Not focusing during a batte was a grave mistake and Thita has done just that. As a result, he ended up surrounded by four wolves, each one of them growling at him for killing their comrand.

'Being smart exchange for being weak, that might be troublesome.'

A strong oponent equaled trouble, but a smart one equaled even more trouble. At least that was Thita's belief.

In his position, Thita could only keep an eye on three of them at most, leaving one of them outside of his vision and with the advantage of attacking him from the back.

'The others seem too ocupied to give me a hand. Looks like it's just me then. Let's try to keep the injuries low.'

Not a moment later after he thought that, he suddenly turned around, as if to predict a surprise attack.

His gamble ended up paying off, since the wolf behind him was already in motion the moment he turned around.

Despite it's surprise by the prey's sudden reaction, the wolf continued his attack opening it's jaws and jumping towards him, without a hint of fear.

It's attack, didn't last long though, since moments later, Thita pierced it's skull from the side, with one swift motion. Recieving the hit, the wolf's eyes turned lifeless and it fell to the ground, never to stand up again.

It's efforts weren't in vain though, since moments after it's death, Thita felt a sharp pain on his other hand. It seemed that one of the wolfves had taken the opportunity and managed to dig it's teeth in Thita's arm.

Trying to igore the pain, Thita moved his hand which held the knife and with a swift motion, he pierced the wolf's head from above. As a result, the knife pierced it's skull with ease and killed it on the spot.

Loosing it's life, the wolf lost it's grip on Thita's hand and fell like a ragdoll towards the ground, joining his fallen allies.

'That makes it three. Two more remain.'

Looking towards the last two wolves, Thita tried to ignore the pain on his left hand.

The wolves weren't any better though, since their opponent had already killed most of them, without suffering many injuries. That didn't stop them though from continuing.

Without showing a hint of fear, one of them launched at him with fury in it's eyes, ready to bite him as hard as it could.

In exchange, Thita skilfully dodged the attack and stabbed the wolf's throat, leaving it to die a few moments after it landed.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

The last wolf, as if acknowledging what kind of fate it awaited it if it stayed, turned around and started running in fear. That wasn't enough though.

Noticing the wolf's reaction, Thita's grip on his knife tightened and with one skillful swing, he launched it toward the wolf. His throw didn't miss and it landed directly on the fleeing wolf's head, ultimately killing it.

'That should be the last from my side.'

Looking at himself once again, Thita couldn't help but notice all the blood that covered his clothes. It wasn't a lot, considering the amount of blood, that was flowing from his opponents. Still, bloon was blood and he was covered by it.

'To think that I would see blood so fast after arriving here. A least, this time it belongs to animals.'

Trying to shake off those thoughts, Thita decided to look on how the others were doing now that he was done.

Turning his head to look behind him, something close to him moved. His opponents weren't all dead yet.

On the other side of the battlefield, Paul and Alex fought the wolves alongside each other. Even though they were two and also had someone to heal them, they had to fight triple the opponent the Thita fought.

That didn't stopp their teamwork though and one after the other, they slaughter as many wolves as they could, bring their opponents number lower and lower.

Unlike Thita, both of them had long sword and as result, they could fight in longer range. Thanks to that, they received very few injuries and their opponents couldn't reach them without getting cut themselves.

As Leslie continued healing both Paul and Alex when they got injured, she couldn't help but glance behind her. It was a risky move to do in the middle of a battle, but she couldn't help but want to see how Thita was doing.

He was a new member after all and unlike Paul and Alex, she knew almost nothing about him. So leaving him all alone for so long might have resulted in him getting injured or even worse.

Thita's job was to keep the wolves from behind occupied, until they could finish with the rest. Of course, he could as well kill them if he could, since that would be even more beneficial for the party. She didn't have such expectations for a new member though.

Turning around with a worried expression, she couldn't help but be surprised. The wolves that Thita was supposed to keep occupied, they were all dead.

Not able to believe in her eyes, Leslie felt shocked by Thita's performance. That shock didn't last long though, since no matter how hard she looked, she couldn't spot Thita anywhere.

Desperately looking around, trying to locate him with a hurried movement, she spotted him. A few meters away from the path, Thita could be seen lying below a tree. He wasn't alone though.

'That's... That's a...'

She was unable to think properly, as if she was witnessing something beyond comprehension. She wasn't wrong to feel like that though.

After all, just above Thita's head was a head of a wolf, it's sharps teeth a few centimeters away from his face. The wolf's head was moving uncontrollably, trying to bite Thita's face as hard as it could.

It's mouth opening and closing, with saliva dripping from it every time it did. It's claws were also moving like crazy, trying to scratch Thita as hard as they could, succeeding from time to time.

Thita on the other hand, ignoring the pain as hard as he could, was trying to keep the wolf as far away as possible from his body. Using his hands as a barrier, he tried to push the wolf as far away as he could, in order to have a chance to escape from it.

Seeing the scene unfold in front of her, Leslie couldn't help but be extremely worried.

'That's a pack leader. To think that such a beast was hiding among the pack. I have to warn the others and hurry to Thita as fast as possible. Please, hang on Thita, just a bit more!'

Thita couldn't hear her thought, he just desperately tried to shake the huge wolf off him.
