chapter 61
an hour and 30 minutes later I am sitting on a moving train. it is rather empty, the only people here are me and some other guy. the train will take four days till it reaches its east most stop, some city in one of the churches core continents. there I will attempt to get transportation to a nearby port town where I will hire a ship to take me to the Alfalm Continent, at least if everything goes according to plan.
I spend the first 3 days meditating while playing with my mind and soul inside and outside my body. when I awoke from my trance I was greeted by a system window.
due to your actions over the last 3 days you have gained the following.
+5 all stats
after closing the window the other passenger, who is a lightling, came up to me. he was rather young.
"beta?" lightling
"who?" jack
"never mind, I was wondering if you could tell me about this world?" lightling
"what? were you born yesterday?" jack
"pretty damn close to yesterday, I was born three weeks ago." lightling
"evolution?" jack
"yeah, was born a fairy. I was one till pretty recently actually." lightling
"can I get a name? I can't keep thinking of you as lightling." jack
"call me Gabriel. what's yours?" Gabriel
"jack, tell me your story." jack
"there's not much to tell, when the system came on-line I was teleported to a dungeon just like everyone else. my parents died in the dungeon and when I managed to get out I ran for the hills." Gabriel
"fine, ask any question you want. and before you ask, no I will not teach you any useful skills or magic." jack
"bah, figures. what can you tell me about this world's gods?" Gabriel
"not as powerful and omniscient as they make themselves out to be. I should know, I've fought several. every god has a domain they rule over, along with many other that share their domain. the domains can be literally anything." jack
"you've fought gods!? any tips for beating gods?" Gabriel
"run, live another day. as you are now even the weakest god of peace can kill you." jack
"oh, OK. what about politics? what is the city were going to like?" Gabriel
"all I really know about it is the church is in power there so expect a lot of racial discrimination for not being human." jack
"then why are you heading there?" Gabriel
"just passing through, no I will not elaborate on that." jack
The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
"I wasn't going to ask you to. do you know any good places to learn to fight?" Gabriel
"you're going the wrong direction, you would want to stay on this train and head back. past that I'll give you one clue, village of the gods. if you manage to get there then you will be given training." jack
"well fuck" Gabriel
I reach out and begin to study his soul, expecting him to be at the very least an elder. what I find is truly surprising, he is damned. I know there is a difference between a dungeon damned and a void damned soul, but I don't know enough about damned to tell the difference.
"you, your a damned aren't you? like the creatures in dungeons." jack
"two things, one I have no idea how dungeons work so I can't answer you there. and two, I have no idea what a damned is." Gabriel
I spend the next 2 hours explaining to him how dungeons work and the common knowledge regarding the soul.
"are you sure you should be telling me this stuff? I mean it all sounds pretty secretive information." Gabriel
"Nah, everything I've told you is common knowledge. I have yet to, and will not, tell you anything that is more secretive." jack
"so what does being damned mean for me?" Gabriel
"that your soul will go to the void when you die, and you will either re-spawn in a dungeon or be used to fill a corpse in necromancy or a construct in animation magic." jack
"how did you figure out I was a so-called 'damned'?" Gabriel
"I used magic, the existence of soul magic is common knowledge, but the methods to obtain it are not." jack
we spent the rest of the ride with him asking questions about this world, I guess I really am soft on children, except when their training. then I've been likened to the churches description of demons, cruel, ruthless, unforgiving. after we reach my destination I get off and Gabriel stays on board, claiming to want to get to that village I mentioned.
"one last word of advice, young lightling. don't become a Lightbringer even if you get the choice." jack
"why? do they have some horrible detriment or something?" Gabriel
"I'll want nothing more than to extinguish your light every time I see your face, I'm a shade after all." jack
"I'll keep that in mind." Gabriel
end chapter 61
sorry, the chapter is a little short this time.
I wonder if anyone will figure out what Gabriel is just from this, probably not.
