Aria/Laura back story

My name Is Laura, I am an ancient who was a human girl in my past life, I died in a fire after killing my father. When I was born I had a strong desire to repay the person who indirectly helped me kill my father, but that desire faded by the time I was three years old. Nothing of note happened between my third and fifth birthday, except the death of my uncle, but I did not know him so it did not affect me. On my fifth birthday I received a present that I would remember for the rest of my life, an egg, a fairy egg specifically. When the egg hatched a week latter a female fairy came out, she was about half the size of a fully grown fairy, about normal for a newborn, and was otherwise fully developed physically, but not mentally, she still had much to learn about the world, and so did i.

I decided to name her aria, and for many years we would learn together, about the inner workings of the world, about magic, about politics. One of the most valuable things I learned during this time was soul magic, I could feel myself growing stronger when I practiced it. Aria attempted to learn soul magic as well, but only managed to succeed at something that looks like stroking the soul, but it feels amazing, so I didn’t mind. It was during this time that I told aria about my previous life, which arguably was a mistake, as she wouldn’t shut up about the guy that burned the city down.

By the time I was 25 Aria and I was exploring the world, we spent a year among the fairy west fair tribe. While we were there we met aria’s parents, it seemed they gave her away when they met a traveler who saved their lives and lived among them for a time, they gave her away with the hope that she would be able to better see the world.

We traveled to many other places, we even served as librarians for several years, it was during this time that I started feeling the desire to thank that man growing stronger. I left the library in order to find him with instructions from a librarian named oracle to spend time in the east fairy tribe and that I might find him eventually. I did and we spent the better part of a decade with the east fairy tribe, by this point I was fifty years old. We left at aria’s persistent nagging; eventually she promised that we would return every five years to see if he had shown up yet.

We continued to explore the world and eventually found ourselves living with an underwater tribe of various sea folk, from mermaids and mermen, to sirens, to giant mammalian octopi, and everything in between. It was an interesting experience, but I started to get sick of sushi around month six. I almost cried the first time I had a Minotaur steak once we got back to the surface.

It was around this time that we got attacked by a group of bandits eyeing aria, fairy wings are valuable when practicing certain types of magic, it wasn’t my first fight, there had been many others before, but it was more memorable than the others, it was at this time that I evolved from an elf into a high elf, an exciting time for anyone, as your lucky if you get more than two evolutions in your life. Too my surprise aria evolved that same night, from a fairy into a greater fairy, one person evolving in a night was not uncommon, but two people in the same party evolving in the same night is rare, not unheard of, but rare.

Within the year aria and I found ourselves amongst a tribe of cultivating kobolds, they were astonishingly intelligent for a group that does not interact with greater society. While there I learned much about the soul, but I did not manage to watch one cultivating. We stayed with them for two years before aria and I decided to explore hell.

Actually getting into hell was a hassle, in the end we had to bribe an imp that was in charge of one of the hell gates, and even then it was days before we could actually get in, with aria complaining about bureaucracy all the way. Once we got in it was beautiful, the place we entered was in a volcanic area, there were geysers and hot springs everywhere, you would have to close your eyes in order to not see a geyser shooting its boiling hot water into the air. Roughly a mile away was a small town with a population mostly of demons, although there were a surprising number of angelics. The pixies were a pain in the ass, with them constantly playing malicious pranks on aria, and her returning the favor a hundred fold.

The next area in hell we visited was a tundra, it was beautiful in its deadly cold, ice coated everything, and plants coated the ice, it gave the whole scene the feeling of a pastel painting of blue and green made even better by the biting cold that caressed any exposed portion of my skin.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Aria would sleep wrapped up in my hair for most the day, and would only leave my hair when we went inside for a meal. The only real downside to living here was terrible food; everything was pickled and jarred, my two least favorite ways to have food.

It was with mixed feelings that I continued my nomadic journey around the world. This time I followed the wind, quite literally, and I ended up in a small farming village on a platoe in a mountain range. I spent three years here farming a plant known as devil grass, which is primarily used in making mead and a drug known as angel’s sin which only effects angelics, and is quite popular among recreational drug users.

It was satisfying, watching plants grow under my guidance. But my wanderlust eventually became too much too bear and I set off again; it was on this particular stretch of my journey where aria asked me something I had never thought of before.

“When are you going to settle down, traveling the world with you is fun, but I’m curious. What would cause you to settle down and what would you do when you do settle down?” aria

It was five days before I was able to give her an answer that satisfied both of us.

“I will settle down when I want too, as for what I will do, I will likely go back to the library, I enjoyed working there, and we saw many places while there.” Laura

“Why am I not surprised. Well, I’ll be with you to the end, you can count on that.” Aria

I continued to travel around hell until I was one hundred and five years old, this time I went back home. I wanted to see how my family has been getting on through these years. One hundred years is a decent chunk of time for elves, while we are long lived, the oldest will only live twelve centuries without evolving, fourteen for greater elves.

While I was away my parents had three children, two boys and a girl. The oldest, a boy, was two decades younger than me, and did not share my wanderlust. He became a soldier for a nearby kingdom, and was adapt with the sword. I spared with him on his request, and was impressed by his skill. My second sibling, a girl, did not share my wanderlust either, she was five decades younger than me and was very talented in magic, becoming adept in many fields of magic, her favorite was by far healing magic. I tried teaching her soul magic but she declined saying that she had tried to learn in the past and did not find it enjoyable.

The youngest, who was only a fifteen, shared my wanderlust. I would entertain him with stories from all over the world, of peoples and cultures that he had never even heard of, much to the agony of my parents as they ‘didn’t want to lose another one to wanderlust’, I just laughed it off telling them that it would be better to prepare him for the world than to discourage him from seeking it, that would only cause unneeded heartbreak.

I left two years later and went to a continent mostly dominated by a forest, aria and I decided to wander the forest and we met many interesting creatures, some that I had never seen before. A year into our journey through the forest a screen popped up in front of me, and we were teleported into a dungeon. I had a fair amount of experience with dungeonereing and so it was easy to clear it. when I got out we walked through the forest some more, and at one point aria got a hold of a fungus that puffs out aphrodisiac spores, she would let a puff of it out at passing groups of nymphs and watch laughing as they were overcame by their own desires. All the while I just laughed along, I had long since gotten used to aria’s pranks.

It was around this time that I came across someone, someone with a soul I would recognize anywhere. And, well, you know the rest of the story.
