Interlude – Proletariat Base
NEAR THE BORDER OF TIMBERFALL FOREST
A tall, well-built man decked out in dark armor and a shorter, slender woman in dark leather armor covered in knives enter the command building. The two have similar facial features, making no one doubt their clear sibling relationship. They both knelt before the officers in the room.
The tall brother male soldier addressed his commander. “You have called us, oh wise General Marks. What are your commands?”
“Ah Carn and Belinda, are you ready to serve the will of the people?”
“Yes, General!” The two youths replied in unison.
General Marks smiled. “A new duchy has been established in the Kingdom of Nord. Their Duke, a corrupt noble by the name of Dragonvein, is doing what all nobles and wealthy people do, exploit, and oppress those around them. This man grows more powerful by helping the wealthy merchants steal the coin of the working class. As you both know, there are only so many resources in this world. If someone has more than another it is because they are exploiting the people.”
Seeing the fury in their eyes, General Marks continued. “You two suffered firsthand at the atrocities of the wealthy, barely skin and bones, while they grew fat. This Duke Dragonvein is the perfect example of noble corruption. In an act of utter cruelty, he and his exploitive business owners are throwing a festival to flaunt their wealth while they throw scraps at the people and use contests and games to distract people from the misery of living in such a corrupt system.”
“Scum!” Belinda spat.
“He must be stopped!” Carn said in fury.
Both siblings remembered vividly the cruelty of nobles and merchants. When their father was injured in a monster attack and lost his arm, he took up drinking because he could no longer work as a caravan guard. Their mother was exploited by the laundry service business owner. She eventually started taking darkroot to numb the pain. Eventually their mom abandoned their father to enjoy her prime years with what she called a ‘less defective’ man, her darkroot dealer.
When the Proletariat took power, the siblings learned the truth. Their suffering was because of the wealthy who hoarded their wealth. There were only so many resources. If someone did not have enough that was because someone else took their share. It was the greedy nobles, business owners, and merchants who refused to share their wealth.

The Proletariat fed the children what they could. Those that embraced the ideals of equal outcome were provided additional resources to learn to fight. If a parent protested, they were removed, and the state took over. Many of the children joined the army to fight the tyranny of the wealthy.
Carn and Belinda had been some of the first to want to join the army. When their father protested, claiming to know the dangers of battle and wanting a different life for his children. The siblings did the right thing and reported their father. He was summarily executed in the town square for denying a child’s right to choose.
“It is our duty as Proletariat to root out these abominations to the natural order.” Belinda stated.
General Marks nodded. “Good. The two of you will lead a special unit to infiltrate the city of Timberfall. You will collect as much information as possible about the city’s defenses and patrols. You must also discover who the most successful business owners are. We know they only got that way by exploiting others. This information is critical if we are to hold those accountable for their crimes against the people.”
“You can count on us General.” Carn replied.
“Once we have the resources from Timberfall we can reduce the burden on our people. You know the food lines have only increased back home. All because of the other countries who hog their wealth and prevent us from ever having a chance to provide for our people.” General Marks said before he knelt down to put a hand behind each of them.
“I was there when we executed your father for treason. I took you both in afterwards and taught you why we do what we must. You two know better than anyone why the Proletariat must control every aspect of the people’s lives. Tell me why.”
“Yes, General Marks. We must give everything to the less fortunate. Only when we redistribute the wealth can we achieve the utopia we desire. That is why we must dictate every aspect of their lives. Freedom is a lie and only complete control of everything can we see the dream of equality of outcome achieved.” Carn recited from memory.
“Good, very good, Carn.” General Marks said before turning his attention to Belinda. “What must we do in service of the people?”
“Anything and everything that is required. It is not wrong if it helps our cause. Sometimes we must tolerate the whims of those less fortunate to help ease their suffering even if it causes suffering, as that helps others. We must also be brutal and cruel if it is to serve the people and break the will of those that are exploiting others. That is why my brother embraces his moniker of Carn the Cruel and I gladly accept my name as Belinda the Brutal.” Belinda answered.
“Yes, you have learned the hard reality of life well. Now attend me before you both leave to end the wickedness in Timberfall. Your real father carries a heavy burden for the people and could use your administrations.” General Marks stated as he rose from his kneeling position.
