Chapter 44: FIRE!!

Hi! Birdie here! Sorry for no chapters these past days. I have been celebrating my birthday and had quite a lot to do. Ugh, I might have had the saddest birthday ever!

I have easter break right now so I’m home alone with my siblings while my parents work. My siblings and I had to clean the house aallll day and do all the dishes.

My parents came home later than ususal and we were going to eat dinner when my mom told us she had tripped and landed on her arm earlier that day and perhaps it was broken. So she and dad had to drive to the hospital, leaving me and my siblings to eat alone in silence.

Oh, I also by mistake kicked down a lamp, breaking it. That was my birthday. Yay T_T

Sorry, just wanted to complain. Here’s a chapter for you all!

----------------------------------------------------

So here I am, standing before an angry 180 centimeter mountain of muscles. Did I mention she is also on fire. Yeah, I’m dead. Sorry guys, no more chapters. I don’t think I have the luck to reincarnate with my memories intact TWICE. Please make me smarter in my next life.

“Where are you, you faul beast! Reveal yourself so that I may slay you!” the woman shouts in anger.

“Hell no!” Morgana shouts. She is obviously terrified. This is my fault. I shouldn’t have left her in the bath! Bad Ruth! If I die it’s my fault. Well I’m glad Morgana is safe at least. I don’t know what I would have done if anything had happened to her.

Suddenly the woman notices me. She grabs my shoulders and squeeze them hard. Her hands are still on fire! Ow! It hurts! I am still a little sore after Morgana launched at me. Luckily she didn’t hit me that hard or else I might hve broken at least half my ribs. Wait, where ere I? Oh, that’s right, the angry woman staring into my eyes- I mean eye. I activate Physical Buff.

“Kid! Did ya see where that wretched, ugly piece of shit went!?”

“Who are you calling ugly you old hag!?”.

((Morgana, now is not the time!)) But this is good. She doesn’t suspect that I am the one that hid Morgana. Ok, time to make use of that liar title! I close my eyes and when I open them I give her my saddest and moat afraid puppy eyes.

“I-I am s-s-sorry ma’am, but I don’t k-know!”. The woman hesitates and she appears to calm down a little. Good, now for the final strike. Once again I close my eyes but this time when I open them I tears gather in my eyes. I start to sulk.

The woman panics. I can hear footsteps running up the stairs. Good.

“N-no, don’t cry! I didn’t mean to scare you! Please, forgive meeee!” The flames surrounding her subdues and she releases my shoulders grabbing my hands instead.

Mwahahahaha, everything goes according to plan.

“What the f**k is going on here?” somebody suddenly asks. I turn around. Behind us stand a group of people, all adventurers. All of them stares at me as if they had just seen a pig fly.

“I-I didn’t mean to make her cry, I swear!” the woman shouts at the crowd.

“Well, if it’s Philomena it’s no wonder the child got scared” one of the adventurers say.

“Yeah, she scares kids by just walking pass them on the street!” another says. Everyone in the group murmurs and nods, agreeing with what they said. The woman, Philomena, releases my hands and drops to the floor. An aura of depression surrounds her.

“But to think that the kid made her panic like that…”

“Truly an unusual child”.

“What’s her name again?”

“I think it’s Ruth”.

“Only Ruth? Poor kid…”

Crap, not good. I don’t want to bring to much attention. What if they realize I’m a monster? If they all react the same way Philomena did I will not be able to stay here for too long. I like this place! Also, why do they all act like that when they bring up my name!?

“Mistress, I do not mean to disturb your thinking but aren’t your belongings still in the room?”

((Yes they are. Why do you wonder?))

“Well, the room is on fire after all”.

… CRAAAAAAP! I run into the room before anyone can stop me. The whole room is burning. Geez, she really went all out! I can barely see anything through the smoke. It’s so hot in here and hard to breathe. Even if Physical Buff is activated and I have the skill Fire Immunity it is still pretty low level.

I need to gwt out of here but not before I find my stuff. Think, where did I put the bag… After I stepped out of the bath I got dressed, then Philomen walked in and I went down to eat. Between those two instancea I must have put it somewhere. But where!?

That’s right! It’s next to the bed I changed beside. The fifth bed on the left! I start searching through the smoke. After a while I find it, right where I left it. Luckily the flames have not gotten to it yet. Haaa, everything worked out in the end. I turn around. Crap. The fire have spread and I am surrounded. But I can still make it! I start walking towards the exit when the ceiling collapses and a large piece of wood falls over me, holding me down.

This text was taken from Royal Road. Help the author by reading the original version there.

Augh! I can feel my organs squshing. It really hurts. Shit, I have really low HP so something like tjis could have killed me! I try to lift the piece of wood but my strenght is not enough!

“Mistress, let us help!”

((No, I can’t summon you here! You are too heavy and the floor will collapse!))

“But bosss-”

((I said no!!!)

“Mama!”

Crap, what should I do? I can’t transform either, if I do they will surely hunt me down! Think, think, think!

Suddenly the pressure holding me down subdues and my body becomes free. Someone picks me up. It’s Philomena! She puts me under her arm like a ragdoll and runs through the fire, ignoring it as if it was nothing. I may have found another -sama…

Philomena and I exits the room but that is not enough. She jumps from the second floor and lands on a table, breaking it.

….

That was very unnecessary! Someone (probably Jeanette) has to fix that! Gosh! If Jeanette did not have that fixing skill someone would have to pay for that table! Respect money! Still, thank you for saving me even thou you were the one that started the fire.

“Are you Ok?” Philomena asks. Damn she looks cool. Too cool.

“Yes thank you” I answer “but what do you do now?”

“Huh? What do you mean?”

“Well you did just set fire to the guild. I can imagine that Jeanette is not that happy right now”.

“... She’s going to kill me…”

Philomena breaks down once again and drops to the floor, releasing me from under her arm. I land on my feet and cast a healing spell on myself. That was too close for my taste. Luckily I hot my bag with me out of the fire.

I look around and I notice that everyone is helping to put out the fire. They hand over buckets, use water magic and try to suffocate it. Some mages are trying to keep the fire under control with spells.

“The fire have spread to other buildings!”

“Have someone alerted the city guard!?”

“They are on their way!”

I can’t help but feel responsible for what happened.

((Guys, we need to help them!))

“As you wish mistress!”

I summon Rowan and Zar. I give out some orders and we start to wotrk. Roman starts handing buckets with the others, Zar carries wet towels while I heal the injured ones. I also mimic the water spells the mages are casting and soon I learn the spell Water Beam.

After about 10 minutes the fire is gone. Everyone is congratulating each other and patting each other on the backs. I summon everyone back.

“Ok good work ladies and gentlemen! The re-construction will soon be done!” someone shouts. It’s Jeanette! She’s standing in on the counter and closes her eyes. Suddenly everything that had been destroyed by the fire starts to glow, just like the first time I arrived at the guild. Soon everything is fixed and it almost seems like nothing had happened. Everyone starts to chatter happily.

“Now” she says and jumps down from the counter “who is responsible for this mess?”

Everyone goes quiet but there is no need for any words. The gazes all are directed towards one person. Philomena. Her face goes pale and she starts sweating. Jeanette walks towards her until they stand face to face.

“Ah, Philomena B. Meleni, do you perhaps know who it was?” Jeanette asks with a smile.

“Eh, uhm, well you see, the thing is a beast tried to attack me in my sleep!”

“Oh, a beast you say?” Jeanette smiles even wider. “Then would you mind telling me where it is now?”

“The thing is… It escaped…”

“It escaped you say? Hmm, if I don’t remember wrong, where you not the one that once claimed that cow was a demon in disguise?”

“T-that might so be but…”

“AND the time a part of the forest was destroyed because SOMEONE thought she was being followed. Who was it now again?”

“I-it was me…” Philomena whispers.

“Huh? I did not hear you, you gotta speak louder, my dear”.

“It was me!” She is shouting now amd she’s got tears in her eyes.

... I gotta be real careful not to get on Jeanettes bad side.
