Chapter 32: Night Assault Part. 2

Will's pov.

As I looked at Ruin I saw that he had finally recovered a fair amount. So I stopped meditating as it was time for some more experimentation.

“This time I will see how I can decrease the backlash received from combining skills. ”

As I stood up I noticed that night had already started to fall, So I couldn't help but look up at the starlit sky filled with countless bright stars as if the sky itself was adorned with countless pieces of ornate shining Jewellery. Seeing this I couldn't help but smile at the beautiful sight.

“Man, I must say it's truly so stunning that no matter how many times I see it. It always mesmerizes me with its brilliance, this sky is so different from the one on Earth. A sky completely free of any pollution, haa truly it's a sight one could never see on Earth because of all the pollution humanity has spread there. ”

As I was taking in the view I noticed a sudden outburst of bright light from the edge of the safe zone. Immediately seeing that my mood darkened rapidly remembering that Wolfwood was still hunting us.

“Don't tell me he found this location. ”

I started to quickly run towards the source of the burst of light to see what was happening. While running I also recalled my spirit guardians.

After a few moments, I reached the location of the light burst but what I found there surprised me. I saw a pair of spirit wisps running toward me with a black hooded man and 10 black-furred wolves chasing after them.

“What in the name of all that is spiritual is that bullshit. ”

I tried to rub my eyes before remembering that I don't have any physical eyes in my vessel that I could rub. Also, how are those two spirit wisps managing to outpace that black-hooded man and his wolves aren't spirit wisps slow?

Curious I activated my skill [Heightened focus] to try and figure out the reason behind why these two spirit wisps were so fast. As the skill activated I saw that a light green hue was covering both of them.

“Ah, so it's because of a wind-type skill, that explains it after all typically all spirit wisps are very sluggish. ”

By the time I had arrived here and the time I spent observing them only a second had passed because of the skill's effect accelerating my thinking speed. So now that I had finished eating my curiosity I immediately got battle ready and started to activate multiple skills at once.

[Skill archives], [Wind Blade], [Plant binding].

As the skills activated ten wind blades manifested around me and many roots started to grow out of the earth to slow down the hooded man and his wolves from pursuing the pair of spirit wisps, I also borrowed the E-rank skill [Wind Cloak] from the green-tinted spirit wisp among the running pair who I remember I had named Ajal.

The borrowed skill was a support-type skill that boosted my speed though all power-ups are welcome in a fight. I also used the skill [Outer Soul Analysis] on the black hooded man as I had learned my lesson after forgetting to do that on Wolfwood.

Hmm, oh it now shows items as well previously it didn't do something like that though it could have also been because Wolfwood might not have been carrying any items to start with.

After taking a look at the appraisal status I tried to get more details of Diallons skills but couldn't do it due to my low skill level. So I stopped standing around and rushed at Diallon while wielding two wind blades and sending the other eight wind blades at the ten wolves to keep them occupied though two of them still slipped past me and kept chasing the pair of spirit wisps. I couldn't do anything as I had engaged Diallon in a fight. So I could only believe that they can take care of themselves.

As my fight with Diallon began, he immediately pulled out a pair of daggers and started to throw a very quick barrage of slashes and stabs in my way which I could barely keep up with through the help of my [Heightened focus] skill and the borrowed [Wind cloak] skill though I was still getting hit a few times.

Seeing that I couldn't beat the man in speed I used [Plant binding] skill to stun him for a bit and backed away to make some distance between us. That's when the man finally spoke.

“Filthy Spirit submit right now to the lord and he might allow you and your fallen kind here mercy by allowing you all to become his servants. ”

“No way in hell would I surrender and why the hell are you attacking us anyway. ”

“Do not feign ignorance, you filthy spirit everyone in this nearby space zone knows that this realm is under the authority of the Forest Keeper race. Any that trespass here without permission will be treated as enemies though I guess you and your kind would have been attacked either way considering your kind's reputation. ”

Man, what the hell is going on, I have never even met any of the others of my ‘kind’ so why the hell am I suffering because of their actions and reputation? After all, I have not even actively attacked anyone and only defended myself.

“Fuck you and your lord and the Forest Keeper race, there's absolutely no fucking way that I am just gonna surrender to you because you asked me to after all do you think I am an idiot. ”

After saying that I tried to use both [Wind blade] and [Fire bullet] skills together to use a skill combination. As the skills activated I could feel them trying to merge but also resisting each other which started to cause my vessel to crack in places. Seeing this I activated my [Basic mana manipulation] and [Rudimentary elemental mana attunement] skills to help with the process of merging.

As I was doing this the hooded man tried to attack me again so I redirected the eight wind blades distracting the wolves towards stopping the hooded man. I also noticed that the bloodsucking tree of spiritual recovery had started to attack the wolves so I let the tree distract the wolves while I fought.

Finally, after 12 painful seconds, the skills merged and I got a system notification though I dismissed it and kept my focus on the battle. I immediately used the fused skill on the hooded man while he was still distracted by my three wind blades since he had destroyed the other five.

As I unleashed the fused skill my consciousness started to fade and the last thing I saw was a giant sword of fire slashing at the hooded man while leaving a sea of flames in its wake and the hooded man raising both of his arms in front of him while a wall of shadows started to rise from the ground.
