Just as the nearest creature raised its club to crush the instructor, a thick textbook flew across the room, slamming into the monster's back.
"Come get me, you bastard!" Raylen shouted, fully awake now, his voice echoing across the classroom, his usual drowsiness replaced by adrenaline.
The green-skinned creature turned its gaze from the instructor to Raylen, snarling as it was momentarily stunned, turned toward Raylen, its monstrous face contorting in rage as it dragged its massive club behind it.
'He's really not thinking this through, is he?' Nyx mused, watching the scene unfold from the back of the room, completely unperturbed.
While observing the scene with detached amusement from his corner, 'He's going to get himself killed at this rate.'
The monster, now enraged, abandoned its assault on the professor and charged at Raylen instead. It lumbered toward him with slow, heavy steps, its beady eyes locked on its new target.
"Come at me!" Raylen shouted again, this time taunting the two other creatures blocking the doorway. His voice was defiant, but the odds were stacked against him. The monsters didn't understand his words, they were still soon enraged by Raylen's loud challenge
Raylen darted through the room, weaving between desks with surprising agility as the three towering creatures lumbered after him. Their guttural growls filled the air, shaking the walls as they crashed into furniture, smashing anything in their path.
Meanwhile, the other students quietly crouched and slipped out of the classroom, their breaths held as they tried not to attract attention. Once outside, they hurried down the hallway, their footsteps quick but quiet, as if the very ground beneath them might betray their presence.
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
Moments later, they reached the entrance to the college, only to find chaos. Other students had gathered there—some injured, others curled up in the corners, paralyzed with fear. Blood smeared the floor, and cries of pain echoed off the walls. The air was thick with panic.
'This is a mess,' Nyx thought, his eyes narrowing as he scanned the scene. The once-ordinary college was now a war zone.
A second instructor approached Nyx's professor, her face pale with dread. "The doors are tightly shut," she said, her voice trembling as she tried to remain composed.
"Have you tried ramming them? Or calling for help outside?" Nyx's instructor asked, his tone sharp, but laced with uncertainty.
"We've tried both. There's no signal, and the doors won't budge," the other teacher responded, shaking her head in disbelief. "It's like we're sealed in."
Before anyone could respond, Raylen came barreling down the stairs, panting heavily, his chest heaving as he caught his breath. "I figured it out," he gasped. "The monsters… they can't follow us downstairs."
A flicker of interest sparked in Nyx's eyes. 'That's very useful information,' he thought, his mind already calculating possibilities.
While the others huddled together, forming plans or simply holding onto each other in fear, Nyx quietly slipped away. As usual, he vanished into the background, unnoticed. His movements were deliberate as he made his way back upstairs, away from the panicked masses.
"If the doors are sealed that tightly," he muttered under his breath, "it means this place is meant to be purged."
He ascended the staircase with a calmness that bordered on eerie, his mind racing with ideas. 'If this is like any game or those novels where reality and fantasy collide… there must be some way for us to resist. A system, perhaps.'
He paused on the landing, a small smirk tugging at the corners of his mouth. "Status," he whispered to himself, almost as a test.
Immediately, a glowing blue panel materialized before him, hovering in midair.
