Chapter 2 - The Beginning of his Academy Life

You’re back pretty early.”, greeted Haku curiously as the policewoman sighed in tire as she went inside the apartment and put down her coffee on the kitchen counter and proceeded inside her room while talking. “I came back for some papers, I might not be able to get back for dinner so don’t wait for me.”, said the woman tiredly as she went out of the room holding a suitcase. “I see.”, said Haku who stayed quiet, knowing he had caused all of this commotion. The policewoman named Yuki went up to him and patted his head.

“After I’m done, we can go on a somewhere together, okay?”, said Yuki gently as Haku nodded. “I’ll hold you on that.”, said Haku jokingly as Yuki stayed quiet in a frown, " I'm so sorry, I can't be a better sister for you.”, said Yuki as Haku shook his head. “No, you're already doing your best. If mom and dad were still here, I'm sure they'd be proud of you.”, said Haku as Yuki nodded seriously, “That's why I have to catch those people who got them killed.”, said Yuki with a tinge of determination in her voice before motioning to leave. As she put her hands on the doorknob, Haku called out, “Yuki-nee.”, called Haku as Yuki looked back curiously. “I’m sorry.”, said Haku sincerely as Yuki smiled. “What’re you apologizing for, dummy?”, asked Yuki as Haku shook his head.

“I just felt like saying it.”, said Haku with a smile as Yuki chuckled. “You’re such a weirdo. Well, I’ll be going now.”, said Yuki as she showed a tired smile before leaving for her police duties.

It was nighttime, around 7 pm when Yuki was walking through the corridors of the Academy City Police. The simple white corridor had a few workers working solitarily about the tables by the side, tapping away on their laptops with a side of coffee. Yuki sighed in thought as she wondered about her case.

(This is the sixth case with the penguin sticker, they reported it was only one person who infiltrated the lab..... It should be safe to assume it's the same person this whole time. Could they be backed by a higher up.....? No, if that was the case, then they'd try to stop me pursuing this case. Hmmm, this penguin thief is quite troublesome.......Penguin?), muttered Yuki as she pictured Haku inside her head before sighing.

(What a stupid thought, Haku-), thought Yuki as a haughty but young female voice interrupted her.

"Oya? I thought I was seeing a random brute lost inside this place but it was just Madam Yuki!", said the voice, feinting happiness as Yuki sighed and turned around.

"What do you want, Jessica?", asked Yuki as she looked at the woman seemingly in her mid 20's, just like Yuki. The woman had long blonde hair reaching below hear shoulders capped by a sophisticated beret. Her dignified almond eyes contrasted the police jacket she wore under a red sundress.

"Oh, just checking up on my precious co worker, it seems catching a penguin thief is hard even for you.", said Jessica with a sense of elitism as Yuki glared at her as Jessica sighed.

"Kidding of course, he's giving me trouble as well. Thanks to him, we had to inspect the lab he raided last night.", complained Jessica as Yuki raised a brow in curiosity.

"How was it?", asked Yuki as Jessica sighed. "As usual, there were traces of data theft from other labs. Now I'm working on the prosecution alongside the prosecutors. Apparently, one of the labs whose data was stolen had a drive with all their stolen stuff handpackaged back to them with a penguin sticker.", said Jessica boredly.

"What about the public?", asked Yuki as Jessica scoffed.

"Half are praising the guy while half have mixed feelings about it. They call him a modern day robin hood while the rest think that the law should precede. Of course, we still have to do our job no matter what they say.", said Jessica as Yuki clicked her tongue.

"Hmph, breaking the law is breaking the law, there are no exceptions, from the civilians to the higher ups. It's our job to expose and bring them all to law. A criminal will always be a criminal/", answered Yuki with a tinge of distaste in her voice as Jessica shrugged.

"Is that so? Ah well, I have no right as to what you think but well.......", muttered Jessica as she gave a melancholic smile.

"What is it?", asked Yuki as Jessica regained her composture. "It's nothing, don't mind me, an elegant and dignified woman like me has alot of problems to think about, a pleb such as yourself wouldn't understand, Ohohoho!.", said Jessica as she walked off with confidence while giving her best "Ojou-sama" laugh as Yuki urked.

"I'll never get used to her......", muttered Yuki as she sighed once more before walking away.

The next day, April 4, Haku was cooking breakfast in the house as the news played while the bacons and omellete in his pan sizzled, sunlight shone through the large rectangular window pane from the back. As he finished up, the door opened, revealing Yuki who was holding a paper bag from Wcdonalds.

"I'm home.", called Yuki as Haku greeted her from the kitchen while he set up the table.

"Ah, welcome back. You're back pretty early.", said Haku as Yuki put down her bags by the rack as she took out her shoes. "Well, I'll need to go back later, but I guess I can stick around for a bit.", said Yuki as she looked at the table with breakfast.

"Want some? I cooked enough for the two of us.", said Haku as Yuki smiled and nodded. "Sounds good, although I already ate a bit.", said Yuki as she sat down while Haku served the food to the two of them. Yuki took a bite of the omellete as she relaxed for a bit. Haku smiled in contentness as he took out a paper and showed it to Yuki.

"Hey sis, mind signing this?", asked Haku as Yuki took the paper curiously and looked at it.

"Hm? What's t-", muttered Yuki as she let go of her spoon in disbelief. "You're......going to St. Camelot?", asked Yuki as Haku nodded. "It's high time I get out.  I can't dwell on mom and dad's death forever. For their sake, I have to accomplish my dream.", said Haku as Yuki gave a relieved smile before standing up.

"Thank goodness. Looks like I don't have to worry about you being a stay-in forever.", said Yuki with a mix of genuine happiness and relief as Haku chuckled.

"What do you mean? I go for a jog from time to time.", joked Haku as Yuki smiled.

"I wasn't talking about that. Ah well, I'll fill this up right away.", said Yuki, a tinge of excitement leaking in her usually strict voice as she walked over to her room before stopping.

"Misa was here the other day right?", asked Yuki as Haku raised a brow before nodding cautiously as Yuki nodded.

"Heh, looks like I owe the logistics alot more now.", said Yuki amusingly as she went inside. As Haku watched her leave, he sighed.

(I feel terrible........), thought Haku as he looked down with downcast eyes before shaking his head.

(I'll do it. I've been doing this for a year now, I can't back out now.), thought Haku as he mustered all his will to work and set out on his double sided academy city life.

Meanwhile, in a certain building in Academy city, a woman with black and white combed by a hairband sat crossed legged on a couch seat in an office with a work desk in the middle. The room ,for a lack of a better word was well....., normal. Just like a normal office, Nothing stood out of the room with a clean workdesk in the middle, two couches opposite of the workdesk with a low table between them, on the side were bookshelves with rather difficult books. The woman took a sip from a porcelain teacup, she sat in front of a rather young looking man in a lab coat with a lax atmosphere around him, he took a sip from his own cup as he breathed in and out to relax before looking at Misa.

"So? How's Haku doing?", asked the man casually as Misa shrugged. "Same as usual.", replied Misa as the man nodded with a troubled look. "That's..... troublesome.", muttered the man as Misa chuckled in response. "Well, despite his big talk on changing this town and getting vengeance, deep down, he's as confused as any normal teen. Let's just hope his school life changes him....... Honestly, I'm tired of seeing him getting so worked up over this, I just want him to live like a normal person.", said Misa with honesty in her voice as Miles tilted his head.

"Is that why you had sent him to school?", asked Miles as Misa nodded. "Words won't persuade him. If he finds a place in St. Camelot, then he'd give up and let go of his past. At least, I hope so.", said Misa as Miles nodded.

"That man is too big for him to tackle, his opposition would just get him silenced, just like his parents were....... I suppose giving him something else to do would make him change his mind. Although I am curious, why don't you just fire him?", asked Miles as Misa sighed.

"I wish it'd be that easy. With or without us, he's gonna go for the kill, just because he has a trump card, he already thinks it's enough as long.", said Misa with a troubled expression.

"That is a problem. Well, I just hope he doesn't rely on that too much.", answered Miles while Misa nodded.

"Yup. The least we could do is give him an excuse to help us and distract him from doing anything too rash. I feel bad deceiving him but it's better than having him dead. Ugh...... what should we do?", asked Misa in a rut as Miles chuckled.

"Just wait and hope. That's all we can do now.", said Miles as Misa sighed. "You're pretty lax aren't you?", asked Misa as Miles shook his head as he took another sip.

"I may not look like it, but I really do respect his parents as a fellow researcher. That's why I want to look over him in their place, surely you feel the same right?", asked Miles as Misa nodded grimly.

"I have to make sure they'll be alright. I.... at least owe them that much.", muttered Misa with a dead serious voice as the two continued their chat.

April 11, 6:20 AM,

The hologram designed as a digital alarm clock dissappeared as Haku waved his hand over it, looking at the mirror beside the table, he glanced at the mirror, wearing a white button on coat with white pants and brown boots suitable for a fight extending to his knees. On his chest pocket was a royal blue school emblem of a sword and a shield. He looked at his reflection in the mirror as he nodded contently.

"Yup. I look like an idiot.", muttered Haku as his face of content dissolved into a face of tiredness, he picked up a metal looking stick that looked like a handle from the wooden table as he sighed while going out of his room after grabbing a messenger shoulder bag. Yuki greeted him as she sat by the kitchen, "Looking sharp.", said Yuki as Haku groaned. "Cut the crap, you know it looks bad.", said Haku as Yuki stuttered. "A-a uniform's a uniform.", muttered Yuki as Haku pointed at a picture framed at the wall, portraying a younger looking Yuki wearing the same uniform as Haku except the coat was slightly altered and instead of jeans, she wore a skirt along with black leggings.

"Fine, fine, are you gonna stop complaining? You're gonna get late.", said Yuki as Haku sighed and went up to the toaster to get some bread.

"Although I still don't get why you chose St. Camelot of all places. Wouldn't you rather pick somewhere more casual like Rikka?", asked Yuki as Haku shrugged. "Well yeah, but well, most of the students in St. Camelot use swords, so it'll be easier to fit in. I wouldn't fit in Nishikaze either since I don't follow any martial arts.", said Haku as Yuki nodded while Haku put on his shoes.

"Well, whatever works for you. Hehe, feels weird I'd be the one saying it, but have a great trip.", said Yuki as Haku stood up and smiled before responding contently,

"I'm off."
