Year 0
How should I start this?
Speed, I am speed.
Lion King Opening Theme.
The clock struck 13.
Let's start with death and a truck driver because every great story always had death and a truck driver. Either that or should I start from when I was born, every hero needs an origin story.
My name is ..., was Virgil Howell.
I was an ordinary high school student. Well, "ordinary" might not be the right word to describe me.
I was born prematurely. I was diagnosed with Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia or in a real people language it's called chronic lung disease. It means that I had underdeveloped lungs and my body had limited muscle strength and energy for breathing. So, I spend most of my childhood in a hospital bed. I didn't go to school like other children, because of my condition tutors hired by my parents taught me inside the hospital. I didn't talk to people my age often, the only time I talked to people my age was when there are other sick kids in my hospital wing. I became friends with them but, when they got better they left one by one and I was left all one.
After the nth time of being left behind, I stopped trying to make friends. I turned to novels and movies to fill my void. It was my solace, my escape from the hospital and reality. The hospital garden was my other escape because looking at bright flowers was a nice change of pace from the grey hospital walls and the smell of alcohol and bleach. I still want to have friends even though I know it would be better to give up. I never asked for things from my parents. I already saw how hard they work to take care of me and made sure that I was loved, I didn't want to burden them further. But for once I want to be selfish, I asked my parents if I could go to high school. To my surprise, they said yes.
They were happy for me, my parents that I should be more selfish and not just accept things as they are. They said that was the least they could do to lessen my burden, I cried tears of joy knowing that I was loved. Finally, I was 16 years old ready for my first day of school. It was the greatest or worst day of my life depending on who you ask. I was on my way to school when I saw a bunch of kids playing football. The ball rolled to the street, one of the kids tried to pick it up, while he was distracted by the ball, he didn't notice a truck speeding in his direction. I didn't know what came over me. I pushed the kid out of harm's way after that everything went black.
The first thing I saw when I opened my eyes was a white wall with a sign that read "You are dead we will be with you in a moment.". That can't be true I was on my way to school and then ... blank. A woman came up to me and said that they were expecting me. She told me that a God was waiting for me and that he would explain everything. I followed her since I didn't know how to make sense out of this. We arrived at an office where a man wearing a Hawaiian shirt, short khaki pants, and Birkenstock was waiting for us.
"He's God?" I asked the woman in denial.
She said yes that unfortunately, the man in front of them was God. I became an atheist at that moment or is it agnostic?
He explained to me that, his name was Dominus and he was a God from a world called Mondo and he wanted me to reincarnated into his world. I told him that he was crazy and that I want to go back, I didn't believe what they told me, about me being dead. I have my parents waiting for me, a new school, and all the new friends that I was going to make. When I didn't cooperate with them, they showed me a screen showing how I died. I died saving a child, at that moment the realization hits me, I was dead. I cried mostly for my parents, how devastated they must be that I died, how I was a burden to them till the very end, I didn't get to repay them for all their kindness.
The woman tried to console me. She said that my parents would be proud to know that the son that they raised would put the life of a child instead of his own. Life still goes on. I wished I could have said goodbye to my parents.
"You want me to reincarnate to your world, does that mean you want me to be a hero?" I asked Dominus.
He straight out laughs at me. He said that I read too many novels. The reason he wants me to reincarnate into his was that he thought that it would be interesting. After talking to him for sometimes, he explained to me a little bit about his world. It was a fantasy world filled with monsters, magic, and fantasy races. We came to an agreement that I would reincarnate into an elf in a village called Evermoon. He would buff my nature magic to make it easier for me to learn and use it and a complete understanding of the elven language. After all of it was done, I said my thanks and goodbye.
Year 1
Istrian Vendan that was my new name as an elf. That was what they called me when it was feeding time. It was hard to find a moment of clarity because the only time I was awake was when I was hungry or pooped my pants. During my feeding time, I got a chance to look around. It seems that I was kept in a nursery because there were other babies in the room, either sleeping on their cradle or being fed by the caretakers. That was how a year of my life passed. Eat, Sleep, Poop, Repeat.
Year 2
It looked like elf mentality mature faster than human. I finally got a chance to go to school, it wasn't exactly how I imagined it, but it was what I always wanted. We learned about our language, the history of elf, and about our village. It was weird looking at babies quietly listening to the teacher lesson. Just a few months of school and all the other babies kids were able to speak in elven. It was amazing to see, I was able to speak and write in elven because of my blessing, but they learned it when they were 1-year-old. It just goes to show how amazing their mentality developed.
Year 8
I finally learn about elf body development. I was pretty sad. Elves had three growth spurt. The first was when they were 1-10 years old, their bodies developed and stopped when they looked like 5-year-old. The second was when they were 11-20 years old, their bodies developed and stopped when they looked like 12-year-old. The last was when they were 21-30 years old, their bodies developed and stopped when they looked like 18-year-old. After that, every 100 years they would look older and older. So that means I would have a baby face even when I'm 20 years old. I also learned that an elf was considered an adult after they were 130 years old.
Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.
The other thing that I noticed that every elf that was born, was raised in a community center. They believed that every elf that must be taught and treated equally, since the birth rate of elves are low. So no parents weren't able to keep their children. That was why I wasn't so attached with my parents because the elves believe that their whole community was their family.
Year 14
I reached my second growth spurt. I still looked like a kid though. I started learning magic today.
Year 18
My teacher told that I was a natural at nature magic and I would become a great druid one day. Well, I had a God's blessing, so it was only natural that I exceed in nature magic.
Year 25
I finally reached my third growth spurt. Even though I was 25 years old, I still looked like a kid. I learned that you have to be an adult and pass a test to leave the village. So that means I'm stuck here until I'm 130 years old.
Year 31
Continue to train my nature magic.
Year 52
Continue to train nature magic.
Year 64
Bored.
Year 78
Bored.
Year 85
Bored.
Year 93
I thought 16 years stuck in a hospital was boring, but this was excruciating. After 50 years, you would know everyone and every place inside Evermoon village. After 70 years, magic became boring if you can't use it against any monsters. My 130 felt so far away and yet so close. The passage of time felt weird when you were an elf.
Year 130
Finally, the day I had been waiting for 100 years. It was my birthday, time for the test. I was nervous and excited if I do well on the test I can finally see the world. There was three test that we must complete, the written test, the practical test, and the battle test. The written test was easy enough basic mathematics, and how would we react to certain situations. It tests our reason and logic. The practical test was to see our survival skill, things like how to set up a camp, herbalism, cooking. Things that we would need to survive outside of the village. Finally, the battle test I was always the greatest fighter thanks to my magic training and the blessing Dominus gave me. I passed all the test with flying color. I was ready to travel the world. To see what it had in store for me.
After months of traveling, villages after villages, town after town, I've arrived. Tre Dea, the elven capital kingdom named after The Three Elven Goddess. It was breathtaking, a whole kingdom building atop giant trees using the power of nature magic. Bridges connecting one tree to another, people walking everywhere, houses at the trunk of the tree. This place looked like the super-sized version of Evermoon village. It was time for me to register as an adventurer. Tre Dea would be the start of the adventurer Istrian Vendan.
Year 230
It has been a long time since my last entry. The past 100 years had been exciting. Becoming an adventurer was the best decision I ever made. Traveling all over the world, fighting monsters, meeting new people there was never a moment of boredom. I have been to the most amazing of places a whole city made inside of a mountain, an island filled with dragons, a sky city, even a secret undead city. I had been an adventurer for a long time, fighting monsters, dungeon crawling, looking for treasures, I did it all. I even got S-rank adventurer badge and the archdruid title. It wasn't always fun though, a lot of pain and sadness happened along the way, losing friends to old age, monster attacks, and all the scars from battle. I guess it was time for me to quit and left it all to the young one now.
I guess I should just become a researcher now. All of the most beautiful places that I been to through the years have all one thing in common. They were all dungeons. Dungeons had a certain kind of beauty and dangers to it. Unbelievable landscapes, places that defy the law of physics even more than usual, hordes of monsters and traps, and loads of treasures. All of the benefits and disasters that dungeon had given to us and we know so little about it.
I've met a lot of people on my journey friends, foes, lovers, and family. I wasn't the only person that came from another world. There had been others, people that reincarnated, summoned, travel to through world. We were called Traveler. It wasn't a very creative nickname I know. A Traveler story about her life convinced me in becoming a dungeon researcher. She was a human that reincarnated from Earth after she died from a truck accident after saving a kid. That story seemed familiar. There wasn't anyone that was reincarnated by Dominus from every Traveler that I met. There was also no Dominus in the human, elven, and dwarven pantheon. Who was he? Oh yeah, the Traveler that knew Dominus was a dungeon.
Year 231
Home sweet home. I took a scenic route home, visiting every dungeon that I could to learn more about them. It had been very educational. I classified dungeons into three types. The first is natural forming dungeons. Dungeon core formed by mana that accumulated for a long time. The second is monster den dungeons. Dungeon core formed inside a queen/king type monster after a sufficient amount of mana and monster grows inside the monster den. The third is Dominus dungeons. Dungeons created by Dominus by putting a soul inside a dungeon core. The third one needed further research and only one known type three dungeon that I know. My friend Diana.
Year 232
Decided to move my research lab away from Evermoon and into the forest since the village has grown since I was here and I didn't want to hurt anybody with my research. I should start experimenting with plentiful and easy to replace things. A mushroom should do.
Year 249
I made a mistake. I shouldn't have started with mushroom. I succeeded in creating a monster, but they are butt ugly. Myconid mushroom hybrid monster. It was a good thing that they still my command or I would have to destroy them.
Year 256
I finished creating the magic for the plants in the dungeon. It took a lot of trials and errors, but I finally did it. A lot of trees were sacrificed to finish the plant magic. A treant was proof that I succeeded.
Year 264
I finished creating the magic for the animals and monster in the dungeon. A giant owl and a unicorn from a regular owl and horse, I would call that a success.
Year 300
I finally finished creating the prototype dungeon core. The loot and trap system took a while to make, but I still made it. It still lacks one thing to be called a dungeon. The ability to affect its surrounding. It can create monsters, plants, loot, and traps, but it can't create room, floor, boss room. Things that make a dungeon a dungeon.
Year 310
Can't do it.
Year 325
Still can't do it.
Year 333
I probably need a break.
Year 348
I decided to meet my old friend Diana to help me in finishing this project.
Last Will
I don't want to be dramatic but if you found it either means I'm dead or you found my secret chest. I hide my chest inside the forest. I hide the map in chest protected by my four guardians. If you are reading this, it meant that you defeat them. Good job to you. Well, anyway everything you found inside my chest and the guardian's chest is now yours. You can do whatever you want with them. Under one condition, as a God with a Hawaiian shirt once told me "Do something interesting with them.".
Love, Istrian Vendan.
P.S. Burn all the porn ... the exotic book you found inside my research chest.
