Betrayal-5

Kalvin gripped the handle of the door, determined to get it open. "I'm gonna open the door," he said.

Carl quickly came over to help, taking off his apron.

Though Kalvin tried every method he knew, the door wouldn't budge.

"Let's break the door," Carl suggested, looking at Kalvin. The tension in the room was palpable as they all sensed that something had gone wrong.

Olivia watched Kalvin closely, seeing the fear in his eyes and the paleness of his face.

Kalvin stepped back, then crashed his shoulder against the door, but it still wouldn't open.

He then returned to his room with an iron bar, which he used to break the lock and open the door.

"The extra key set is gone. Somebody has taken it," he said, his voice tight with worry.

As the door fell open, Kalvin's face fell. The group stood in the doorway, all dreading what they might find on the other side.

"Oh gosh!" Kalvin screamed, hurrying into the room.

Carl, who was at the doorway, tried to follow but was hit by a strong, overwhelming smell as he stepped forward. He quickly covered his nose with his hand, struggling to breathe.

"Something makes it hard to breathe," Carl said, stepping back.

"What?" Tara asked, her voice laced with wonder.

"Oh no, not again!" Olivia whispered, her face filled with dread as she realized what was happening.

At that moment, Kalvin came running out of the room, carrying the unconscious Melvin in his arms. Carl hurried to help Kalvin get Melvin to the sofa as Kalvin coughed violently.

"We need to get her to the med bay," Tara said, her expression tense.

"Hurry, this room needs to be sealed," Olivia said, her urgency clear.

"Anything else missing?" Carl asked Kalvin, who was still struggling to stop coughing.

"I think no, I..." Suddenly, Kalvin's expression changed to one of fear.

"Oh heck!" Kalvin whispered, rushing to his room. A minute later, he came out, totally freaking out.

"The keys are gone!" he screamed, unsure of what to think.

"What keys?" Carl asked, puzzled.

"The submarine keys," Kalvin whispered, rushing towards Melvin, who Tara was checking.

"Does a submarine have keys like a car?" Olivia asked, confused.

"Not like that, but I need the keys to open the doors to the operating room and more," Kalvin explained, his gaze fixed on Melvin with worry.

"She's breathing, don't worry," Tara said, looking at Kalvin's concerned face.

Tara stood up, meeting Kalvin's worried gaze. "Let's hurry up to the med bay," she said urgently. Kalvin held Melvin close like a dad holding his baby. He was distraught as he rushed to the med bay. As they ran, Kalvin turned to Carl.

"Can you check the submarine?" he asked, his voice strained.

"Sure, I'll go do that," Carl replied, breaking off to head to the submarine.

Tara looked at Olivia. "Liv, can you figure out what gas was used? I'll start Melvin on oxygen therapy in the med bay."

Olivia nodded. "I'm on it," she said, picking up her pace to reach the med bay first. Kalvin's heart was beating fast as he carried Melvin. He had to help her, no matter what. The med bay was just ahead, and he knew Tara would do everything she could. He knows how much Tara cares for her patients as he has been under her treatments while they were in Octagon Verenda.
