Betrayal-2

Within the next few hours, Olivia and Tara closely monitored Kalvin's condition. They were relieved to see him steadily improving over time. Eventually, they decided to allow him to rest and sleep.

Melvin remained seated by Kalvin's bedside, watching him intently. She was afraid to take her eyes off him, worried that he might stop breathing if she looked away.

"He's getting better," Tara said, sounding relieved. But Melvin did not tear her gaze away from Kalvin.

Olivia looked at Melvin with a perceptive expression. "You don't hate him, Melvin. You care for him, don't you?" she asked, her tone concerned yet gentle.

They all felt exhausted from the long night of caring for Kalvin. It was almost morning.

Melvin continued to watch Kalvin as she replied, "It feels the same way you feel about your mom." Olivia fell silent, lost in her own thoughts about her mother. Melvin expected that. That's why she brought up the topic 'Elsa'. She doesn't want to talk about her brother.

Tara, weary of any further drama, got up from the chair where she had been sitting and moved to the last empty bed in the room.

"I'm tired. There's no use in all of us staying up," she said as she lay down on the bed.

"No, you can't just sleep," Melvin said, turning her attention away from Kalvin to look at Tara. "Soon enough, Carl will come, and Olivia will have to leave. Kalvin needs a doctor's support to heal," she added, sounding slightly irritated.

Tara sat on the bed, feeling drained. But Olivia quickly intervened.

"No, I won't leave. I'll stay until lunchtime so Tara can get some rest. I suggest you go have breakfast first, Tara," Olivia explained. Tara lay down on the bed, letting out a weary breath.

"You go first, have breakfast with Carl, and wake me up when you leave," Tara said, snuggling under a blanket. Olivia smiled gently.

"By the way, who did this to him?" Melvin asked, gently running her fingers through Kalvin's hair.

"Should we inform the council about this?" Olivia asked curiously. But Tara interrupted.

This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.

"Oh, please, I just want to sleep for one hour. Can we talk about this later?" Tara said sleepily.

Olivia smiled. "Okay, doc," Melvin whispered.

As Melvin had predicted, Carl arrived at the medical room about two hours later, around 8 a.m. He went to the cafeteria with Olivia.

"How is Kalvin?" Carl asked as he pulled out a chair and helped Olivia sit down.

"He's fine now, but who told you all of this?" Olivia asked curiously, looking at Carl as he sat across from her.

"I went to the bridge when you didn't open the door after knocking for ten minutes," Carl said, teasing Olivia with a smile.

Olivia smiled back at him. "Clarence told me. He's very upset about having to be on duty for one more day," Carl explained.

At that moment, Norman approached them. It seemed he had overheard the last part of their conversation.

"Double duty? Why?" Norman asked, looking curiously at Carl and then Olivia.

"Oh, poor Kalvin had an accident. He won't be able to work for a few days," Carl explained. Norman looked clearly shocked.

"I'm glad he's okay," he barely managed to say, his face pale.

Olivia stared at Norman, noting his strange reaction.

"What do you guys want?" Norman asked quickly, seeming eager to leave.

"Breakfast," Carl said, a bit taken aback by Norman's odd question.

"Oh, I forgot it's breakfast time...silly me. On my way, sir!" Norman saluted, trying to be funny, but his face betrayed his emotional struggles.

"Erien," Olivia said loudly, causing Norman to turn around in wonder.

"Did you see anyone adding anything to Kalvin's food?" Olivia asked curiously. Norman's face grew even paler, and he seemed nervous.

"Um, n-no, um," he stammered, rubbing the back of his neck and looking down.

"Breakfast, please, Norman. Olivia has to get back to the med as soon as possible," Carl interrupted, eager to get Norman moving so he could hear more from Olivia about the incident.

"Poison can come from anything, not just food. It could be water or anything," Norman said quickly, trying to convince them it wasn't the food.

This made Olivia feel even more suspicious. She saw the nervousness in Norman's body language.

"That guy was so scared," Olivia thought to herself.

"So what caused Kalvin to get sick?" Carl asked curiously.

"He was cyanide poisoned," Olivia said, still staring at the guy who was walking towards the kitchen. Carl could see the suspicion on her face.

"Hey," Carl snapped his fingers, drawing Olivia's attention back to him.

Olivia leaned across the table and whispered, "Carl, that guy is suspicious to me. He clearly knows something. He was the one who packed Kalvin's food yesterday."

Carl looked back at the man who had just entered the kitchen. "Olivia, it could have been anyone. Kalvin has more enemies than friends after the last incident," he whispered.

"I want you to do me a favour," Olivia said.

Carl nodded and replied, "Anything, Commander."

Olivia smiled. "What?" she asked.

"Ah, come on, we're on a ship," Carl said, chuckling.

Olivia's smile widened. "Keep an eye on that guy," she said, her gaze serious.

"Okay," Carl nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation.

"Some people think I poisoned him so I need to find who did this"Olivia said giving out a breath.

"I'll do my best, don't worry," Carl said grabbing her hand across the table.
