“Aren’t you surprisingly strong willed? For a person who gave up after seeing a dead head talk, you do have some backbone don’t you?” (Miras)
Uuuu… Master. That’s strictly confidential. And it’s normal for people from modern Japan to be freaked out by their friend’s talking head. Please understand that…
“But. You don’t know the first thing about being a Slayer, and nor do you have the potential to. All right, I permit you to enter the village. You should continue your everyday schedule, training your body. After a sufficient amount of time has passed, I’ll tell you what to do. You can live in the village till then, Yuuya.” (Miras)
The village! The forbidden place! The super secret base! The village of Slayers! It feels appealing, but honestly, I’m scared. The residents weren’t very welcoming of me, and basically glared at me at every possible opportunity. Sigh. But that doesn’t mean I’m unenthusiastic. I still want to enter the village. Master tells me to pack up all my stuff and follow her. Well it’s not like I have a lot of belongings. The clothes and the sword. Nothing else needed.
“What are you doing?” (Miras)
“Picking up…my stuff?” (Yuuya)
“I can see that. But who’s gonna take the rest of the stuff?” (Miras)
“Rest of the stuff? I only have this much you know? And all of these are borrowed too.” (Yuuya)
Master drops her fist on my head. Ouch. It hurt a bit.
“Idiot disciple, then who’s gonna bring the house?” (Miras)
Eh? What did she say? Bring… the house?!!
“Master, please stop joking around. Even you kno—“ (Yuuya)
“New order. You can’t become a slayer unless the house is brought to the village. Understand?” (Miras)
Eh? Ehhhhhhhhhhhhh?!!! Bring the house?! I’m a normal student you know?!
“Now, your first lesson to you from me. You never know unless you try” (Miras)
What’s with that useless advice?! It’s not going to help me lift a house you know!? At least give me a secret technique or a clue?!!
“If you can do it, I’ll consider it as a fact that you passed the first phase of your training. “ (Miras)
And so, my life in this place began. With my first task being to bring the house.
Life here is the same as before. I follow the same regime as before, training my body and swinging the sword. The magic elixirs from Master really boost my body, and Master says that I would die if I didn’t exercise to the absolute limit of my body after consuming them. My first quest in this RPG is to bring the house to the village. That’s just absurd. How am I supposed to do that?!!
I tried to lift the house yesterday, and I couldn’t even make it budge, much less even lift it. It really is impossible for me. My physical body strength might be lacking.
Thinking about the ways to lift the house, I return back to the cabin. As always there’s master, in her miko outfit, reading some or the other book. What a fearsome reader.
“Ah. You’re back Yuuya?” (Miras)
“…Yes” (Yuuya)
I felt a bit dispirited, since my first task to become a slayer was pretty much impossible after all. Tch.
“I didn’t feel the house moving today… Could it be… you failed?” (Miras)
She’s deliberately doing that. She wants to rub it in me. I nod and head to the desk. Books! Rescue me and sprint me away into a world without Master!
“Ah. There’s no need to worry. It’s natural to fail in your first attempt. A house has to be brought to the village of course. It’s not something like lifting a bucket of water.” (Miras)
“..That’s right” (Yuuya)
It’s been a week since master asked me to bring the house to the village. I’ve been thinking about it lately. No matter how you look at it, isn’t it just impossible? Meaning, my approach has been wrong from the start.
“Ah~ You didn’t get the house to get to the village yet? Not yet? It’s been a week you know? I might end up forgetting at this rate you know?” (Miras)
Ah there she goes again, rubbing salt in my wounds.
Wait what? What did she just say? She asked me if I didn’t get the house to the village yet. I recount all of her provocations and instructions. From the start, she… she didn’t intend for me to do it. She wanted the house in the village, that’s it. I figured it out! Great! Now to pass this task-
“Master? Can you please help me get the house to the village please?” (Yuuya)
“Ufufufu…” (Miras)
She gives her suspicious laugh out again. Meaning, my guess was correct! Eureka! She looks pleased. I can finally become a Slay –
“Nope” (Miras)
No way. It was wrong?! Drat. She wasn’t supposed to deny it! She was supposed to say ‘Congrats my genius disciple’ and congratulate me!
“Did you think that I would say ‘Congrats my genius disciple’?” (Miras)
Right on the mark. Poker face, help me out.
“But I’ll give you a clue since you figured something is right. Your approach is right, but your target is wrong.” (Miras)
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.
Approach was right, Target was wrong, huh.
Probably, does she want me to seek the help of the villagers? Maybe. I’ll try that approach out too.
The next day, I prepared myself for ‘Operation: Make friends’
Even back in my world, it wasn’t like my social skills were great, the only friend I had was Shizuka and the others at the orphanage. But I’m sure I can do it. Probably.
“Fufu.. All the best!” (Miras)
Master spends almost all of her time here now. Maybe because she feels guilty about the village being sealed here. She has her shares of troubles too I guess.
All right! Let’s begin the operation!
I spot my first targets a short distance off from the rock formation where I do my body training. A pair of men, both burly and with bulging muscles. They wore matching vests lined with fur like cloth on the edges, colored red and green.
They both had a crossbow on their backs, while the man with the red vest had a needle like sword on his side and the one with the green vest had a great axe on his back. Huge. It must be about my height.
I waved my hands at them. At first, they glared at me, and then ignored me.
“Great weather huh?” (Yuuya)
“”…..””
Silence. Awkward. Seems like they’re heading out for a hunt. They were walking deeper into the forest, so I decide to follow them. It might give me some battle experience.
They ignore me, and occasionally send hostile glances at me, hoping I’ll buzz off. As if. I’m gonna make you guys my friends!
Then, after walking for a while, they suddenly stop, and crouch. I understand what happened. I can hear it. A growl. I crouch down and hide behind a thicket.
A silver fur wolf. At least that’s what Master told me they are. There were three of them, prowling the forest, with their snouts sniffing the air. The uncles with me move slowly, careful not to attract attention. The uncle with the axe turns to me and signals me to stay quiet. I nod.
They get close to the wolf, and start preparing. The uncle with the axe, who signaled me before, takes his crossbow and takes out a bag of bolts from thin air. It seems to be the same magic as the one Master used to take the book out. He nocks the bolt on to the crossbow and takes aim. He adjusts something on the crossbow, and then takes him again. He waits, with his axe at his side.
The other uncle takes out his sword, the needle like weapon, and coats it with something like poison. A viscous violet liquid, from a small vial on his waist. After ensuring the sword was properly coated, he waited too.
The wolves wandered closer, almost as if they caught some prey. I notice that the axe uncle had opened a box of meat too. Might be bait. The wolves edge closer.
And as if at some invisible signal, the axe uncle fires the bolt. It accurately hits the neck of the wolf. It yelps and leaps away, scared from the sudden attack. As if waiting for this moment, when the wolves became distracted, the needle uncle dashes out, with his needle sword.
Beautiful.
That’s the only word with which I can describe their fight. As if dancing to a perfect tune , the needle uncle perfectly stabbed into the neck of one of the wolves and danced away, out of range of the wolf’s claws, and the other wolf’s bite. The axe uncle immediately launches another bolt into the mouth of the wolf which came into bite.
It howls in pain and leaps back. The wolf which was shot first joins the fray again, in order to back up his buddies. The moment the wolf tries to attack the needle uncle, he perfectly stabs the wolf, through the back of it’s mouth, and through the back of its head. A one hit kill. He draws it out, and jumps back again. The wolf which was stabbed first by the needle uncle suddenly coughs up blood and falls, dead. The last wolf, scared from this, attempts to run away. But as if predicting this, the needle uncle draws a knife and throws it into the head of the last wolf, killing it.
In under a minute, they annihilated a pack of silver fur wolves. Too OP.
But in the excitement of watching their battle, I forgot to protect my own back. From behind me, emerged a huge grizzly like monster. It was huge, almost 4 meters tall, with knife like fangs and claws. It was about to kill me in one go.
Fear enveloped me.
Shit. So careless.
But, like a gallant knight from the stories, the axe uncle from before suddenly appears beside me, and slams his great axe into the throat of the grizzly, insta-killing it.
“Dang. I didn’t expect a Great Bear to approach this place… Are you ok kid?” (Axe uncle)
I nod. He smiles at me. Arcus , for that was his name, had long blonde hair, and was almost 3 meters tall. He was really tall. And reliable. He smiled at me, and introduced himself.
And the needle uncle, Gillareal, was a man with a marimo like cut of brown hair. He was considerably shorter and leaner than Arcus, because he was more of an agility build.
And thus, I made my first friends from the Slayer village.
