Chapter 8: The Nightmare

Chapter 8: The Nightmare

Just as I saw the duck about to fly off, my heart began to race. At that moment, a beautiful woman appeared outside the door.

This woman had her hair tied up in a refreshing ponytail, wearing a white T-shirt and jeans, and a pair of clean white canvas shoes. Her appearance was pure and sweet, and she looked about my age. She had a lollipop in her mouth and occasionally licked it with a mischievous tongue.

"This is such a crappy place, so dilapidated and remote. What kind of idiot would open a shop here?" The woman mumbled, staring at the creaky ghost tattoo sign.

I was a bit irritated upon hearing this. Who was this person? She came in immediately and started criticizing the place. If she wasn’t here to get a tattoo, I’d have used a broom to chase her out. Just because she was pretty doesn’t mean she could act like this.

"Are you Tang Hao?" The woman asked curiously as she entered and looked at me.

"Yes, are you here to get a tattoo?" I nodded in response but was equally curious—how did she know my name? I didn’t recognize her, and she was far more beautiful than Xu Meng. And Xu Meng was the top hostess at the entertainment club!

“Of course, I’m here for a tattoo. What, am I here to set you up on a blind date?” The woman replied with an eye-roll.

She didn’t seem to have the best temper, but that was fine. As a customer, I had to treat her like a goddess, right?

At this moment, Xu Meng, who was about to leave, stood up and said she would let me work if I had other customers, and she would think more about the tattoo later.

But as she turned to leave, the woman suddenly called out to her. Xu Meng seemed puzzled—she didn’t recognize her, so why was she calling her?

Xu Meng turned around and asked, "What’s up?"

The woman didn’t answer, instead, she spun her lollipop around in her mouth and circled Xu Meng three times.

"Recently, have you slept with a dead person?" The woman suddenly asked.

"Y-You... what are you talking about?" Xu Meng reacted angrily.

The woman ignored her anger and suddenly slapped her forehead.

I was alarmed—what was going on? Why was the woman suddenly getting physical? They didn’t even know each other.

To my surprise, after the slap, a bluish mark appeared on Xu Meng’s forehead. There were two separate marks that looked like... eyes. Her forehead also had a faint black mist swirling around it.

Xu Meng couldn’t see any of this. She was about to explode, but I quickly grabbed her and made her look in the mirror. When she saw it, she was also startled, but the strange marks soon vanished.

"W-What... what was that?" Xu Meng asked, no longer angry, but confused.

The woman replied in a serious tone, "That’s 'Corpse Grudge.' If I’m not mistaken, someone has used corpse reincarnation to harm you. The person you slept with wasn’t human. It was a corpse that had been dead for a long time."

If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

"If that corpse had resentment, the grudge would stay with you after you... made contact with it," she explained.

Her words were so matter-of-fact, and it made Xu Meng feel uneasy. I, too, was stunned. My grandfather had only taught me about ghost tattoos and fortune-telling, so I didn’t know much about this other stuff.

"Hey, are you telling the truth? Don’t scare me," Xu Meng’s face changed color.

The woman then asked Xu Meng, "Was the man you slept with unable to move his eyes?"

Xu Meng thought for a moment, then nodded furiously. She said she initially thought he was just drunk and couldn’t control his eyes. Sometimes, drunk people have trouble moving their eyes. But now, thinking back, something seemed off. Was he really just drunk when he acted that way?

The woman then asked, "Recently, have you been feeling like something is following you, but you can’t see it?"

This question hit the nail on the head. Xu Meng nodded vigorously again. How did this woman know all this? Who was she?

The woman explained that the corpse grudge was blocking Xu Meng’s vision, which is why she couldn’t see the dirty spirit following her. After seven days, the ghost would come to take her life!

She added, "It’s easy to prove. Just check the man you slept with. He must have been dead long ago."

"Dead long ago?" Xu Meng was startled. Didn’t he just die that night she was with him?

After hearing this, Xu Meng looked like she had come to a realization. Without saying another word, she rushed out of the door, and no matter how much I called her, she wouldn’t come back.

Damn it, after all that, she still ran off!

Turning around, I asked the woman who she was, and how she knew so much about this stuff.

"My name is Su Qing. Zhang Qing is my senior brother. He’s the one who recommended you to me," the woman said as she licked her lollipop.

Zhang Qing? That guy already knew about my tattoo shop so quickly? And he had such a beautiful junior?

It turned out she was a celestial master too. No wonder she knew so much. I felt relieved; Xu Meng would definitely come back eventually.

Su Qing then continued, "But my senior brother doesn’t seem very reliable. With this broken place and a tattoo artist who hasn’t even grown up yet, what could he possibly know?"

I didn’t like hearing that. You can doubt everything about me, but not my skills. I told Su Qing, "If the tattoo doesn’t turn out well, I’ll refund you in full and even pay you compensation."

"Oh?" Su Qing raised an eyebrow, challenging me, "What if I want a ghost tattoo?"

Ghost tattoos? That’s even better. More money, and I was happy to oblige. I assured her that if it didn’t work, I’d refund the full amount, but I didn’t know why she would want a ghost tattoo.

Su Qing herself was a celestial master. If it was just a regular evil curse, she could handle it herself. So why would she come to me for a ghost tattoo?

When it came to the reason for the ghost tattoo, Su Qing’s playful expression immediately turned cold.

Since she was five years old, Su Qing had been having the same dream. She dreamed of a black carbon coffin.

Normally, coffins are red, but black coffins are used for those who died in war, suicide, or early death. A carbon coffin was even more specific—it was only used to bury strange or evil corpses.

In the dream, Su Qing opened the coffin and found an old woman inside, wearing a black burial garment.

The old woman’s face was eerie. It wasn’t a human face, but a fox’s face. The face was covered in white fur, and her mouth was slit open, as if she was smiling.

Whenever Su Qing got close to the coffin, the old woman would extend sharp claws and drag her into the coffin while laughing coldly. Every time, Su Qing would wake up drenched in sweat.

This had been happening for more than ten years, and the dream was always exactly the same.

Celestial masters can interpret dreams, but they can’t break them. Su Qing’s master was at a loss, but had said that ghost tattoos were mysterious and might offer a solution.

Su Qing’s dream was indeed strange, and the fact that it had been the same for over a decade was even more unsettling. What was going on?

Curious, I asked her more about the dream, and after a cold glance, Su Qing, looking somewhat frustrated, explained the general details.

Her master had said that the dream was called "White Fox Covering the Face."
