Chapter 47: The Wife Has Arrived

Chapter 47: The Wife Has Arrived

The boss’s last name was Su, not Zhang? Xiao Xing and I were both confused. What was going on? Was the internet café manager messing with us, or had Old Zhang lied to us?

The manager could see we didn’t believe him, so he called for the owner. A few moments later, a big bald man appeared and introduced himself as Su Long, the boss of the internet café.

This wasn’t Old Zhang! Could it be that Old Zhang had deceived us? What was the real reason behind this?

I asked the manager if there had ever been any employees named Zhang, and the boss shook his head. "No, there’s no one named Zhang here."

That settled it—Old Zhang had indeed been lying to us. But what was his goal? Why had he tricked us?

I then asked the owner if anything unusual had ever happened at the café—if anyone had died there. When the boss heard the question, his face immediately darkened, and he asked how I knew about such things. "You don’t look like you’re a regular here," he said. "You shouldn’t know about these incidents."

I told him everything Old Zhang had mentioned, and to my surprise, everything lined up. There had indeed been an old lady selling snacks who appeared every night around 3 AM, and no matter how hard the staff tried, they couldn’t get her to leave. Over time, many customers had mysteriously withered away and died, just as Old Zhang had described.

It seemed that Old Zhang hadn’t completely lied to us. Everything he said had actually happened at this internet café.

But what was his purpose? If he wasn’t the boss, then why involve us? Was he working with the Yellow Skin Fox? That didn’t make sense either. If he had ill intentions, why not harm the people in the café directly? Why come to me at the tattoo shop? We didn’t even know each other.

I couldn’t make sense of it. After returning to the tattoo shop, I spent a long time pondering but still couldn’t figure it out. In the end, exhaustion took over, and I fell asleep.

I woke up around 3 PM, groggy and disoriented. That’s when Xiao Xing came to wake me up, a mischievous glint in his eye. "Little boss, your wife’s here."

"Wife? Am I still dreaming, or are you just messing with me?" I yawned, still half asleep, thinking he was making things up. The twins had disappeared without a trace; where would I have a wife?

"Come on, Little Boss, don’t play dumb. Your Ice Queen—Dai Jieying!" Xiao Xing’s grin slowly turned into something more suggestive.

I rubbed my eyes, recalling the name. Oh, right—Dai Jieying, the one who had promised to marry whoever could break the curse around her family’s grave. I’d been the one to help her escape the curse, but honestly, I had little interest in her. The two million she offered was more tempting than any potential relationship.

"Don’t get your hopes up," I teased. "A woman like her, beautiful, rich, and from a prestigious family, keeping her virginity intact? You’re lucky if she’s willing to marry you after you’ve had kids."

Xiao Xing’s expression soured a bit, but he didn’t say anything more. I was already getting dressed when he continued.

"I’ve heard about her family," he added. "They’re super strict. Dai Jieying’s not one to easily fall for a man, and she’s never been with anyone. I think you’re in for a treat, Little Boss."

I shook my head and sighed. Xiao Xing, with his twisted sense of humor, was always looking for ways to push my buttons. But I had more important things on my mind.

As I walked downstairs, I found Dai Jieying sitting gracefully in one of the chairs, sipping tea. She was dressed in a light blue blouse, the first button left undone to reveal a delicate collarbone, and her long hair cascaded down like a waterfall. She looked beautiful, of course, but I wasn’t particularly drawn to her.

Her demeanor, too, had shifted. Rather than the cold and distant woman I had met before, she now seemed more respectful, even deferential. After all, I wasn’t just some lowly tattoo artist anymore—I was the man who had saved her life.

"Shall we go?" Dai Jieying asked, her voice polite but urgent.

"Impatient to marry me already?" I teased with a smirk.

Her face flushed slightly, and she opened her mouth as if to say something, but quickly closed it, opting not to argue. She didn’t have much of a leg to stand on; after all, the truth was out there.

"No, I’ve just been waiting for a while," she finally muttered, but even then, her tone had softened, no longer as cold as before.

"Alright, let’s go then, wife," I said, taking the tattoo ink and needles with me, heading out the door.

Once we were in her car, Dai Jieying muttered something under her breath. "It’s not like that… we’re not… yet."

She was still icy, but I could sense a bit of warmth creeping into her attitude.

We arrived at the Dai family’s cemetery, and there, waiting for us, was a tall man dressed in black. His face was covered in a full beard, and his rugged appearance made it clear he was no ordinary person. Dai Jieying introduced him as the Dai family’s butler.

The moment I heard this, I couldn’t help but shiver internally. I was trying my best not to show it, but the tension in my chest was palpable. This butler—was he really just a butler? Or was he something else entirely? Could he be the ghost Old Master Tian had warned me about?

Dai Jieying explained that the butler was deeply familiar with the cemetery’s layout and that we could consult him about anything. She and the butler would stay with me throughout the process.

I had a bad feeling about this butler, especially after hearing Old Master Tian’s words. But I didn’t have much of a choice; this was Dai Jieying’s family, and the butler was in charge here.

As we entered the cemetery, I began searching for the right spot for the ritual. There was a grave that belonged to one of the Dai family’s ancestors, and it seemed to fit perfectly with the requirements for the Four Gods Sand ritual.

After some instructions, the tomb was opened, and the coffin inside revealed something that I wasn’t expecting—inside, the body was already beginning to decompose, covered with dark, coarse fur. The fingers were long and sharp, and the teeth jutted out of the mouth, just like the Dai family ancestor I had encountered the night before.

This wasn’t quite a zombie, though. These bodies didn’t jump out of their coffins. But the sight was still disturbing, especially with the corpse’s twisted features.

Even Dai Jieying, who had seen this before, was visibly shaken. The others standing around looked equally pale. Only the butler didn’t flinch.

"Someone, remove the corpse’s clothing. I need to tattoo it," I instructed.

No one dared to move. The sight of the corpse was too much for them, especially since it hadn’t fully decomposed into a proper zombie.

But then the butler jumped down into the grave, and within moments, he stripped the corpse of its burial clothes, not even flinching as he worked. He didn’t seem scared at all.

When I saw him handling the body without a care, I felt a chill run down my spine. Something was off about this guy. Could Old Master Tian’s warnings about him have been true?

I tried to focus on the task at hand and began preparing to tattoo the body, but then something strange happened.

The corpse’s hand twitched.
