Chapter 53: Paper Spirit Yin Soldiers

Su Qing explained to me that these so-called Paper Spirit Yin Soldiers were the vengeful souls left behind from battlefields, and when these souls gathered together, they formed Yin soldiers. This is why some people report seeing Yin soldiers patrolling certain places, creating a terrifying spectacle. Paper Spirit Yin Soldiers, however, were created when the Ghost Granny transferred these Yin soldiers onto paper figures, controlled them, and then used them to kill.

Yin soldiers are more vicious than ghosts. They are the spirits of soldiers who died on ancient battlefields, known for their extreme cruelty.

Su Qing urged me to escape. With her current abilities, she couldn’t deal with so many Paper Spirit Yin Soldiers. But as long as I could delay until the sun came out, they would dissipate on their own.

Paper figures fear fire, and Yin soldiers fear light. Once the sun rises, they won’t dare show themselves.

I looked up at the sky, but it was still a dark mass. There wasn’t a trace of sunlight. I didn’t know what kind of dark magic the Ghost Granny had used, but I prayed for the sun to rise, though I suspected it would be too late by then.

But running away wasn’t an option. These Yin soldiers were fast, almost as fast as they could fly. There was no way I could outrun them.

Forget it. If I’m going to die, then so be it. I’ll fight till the end!

I tore off my jacket and set it on fire. As the Yin soldiers charged at me, I threw the flaming garment at them. I heard a series of hissing sounds as they immediately caught fire.

Looks like fire still works on paper! Paper figures are afraid of water and fire.

But before I could even feel relieved, the Yin soldiers began spitting out black resentment energy, which snuffed out the flames instantly.

"Heh heh, kid, you think these are just ordinary paper figures? Water and fire won’t work on them!" The Ghost Granny in the sedan cackled sinisterly. "Today, you’ll lose your life. I’ve given you a chance, but you didn’t value it."

These Paper Spirit Yin Soldiers were terrifying! They didn’t even fear fire. How could I possibly deal with them?

"Sha, JIANG, ZHEN, MIE, PO!" Su Qing suddenly chanted a series of incantations. She crossed her fingers, combining them into a complex hand gesture, and then her yellow talisman shot out from her fingertips like a flying sword, slicing through the first row of Yin soldiers, sending their heads rolling to the ground, sparks flying.

The heads rolled on the ground, but they didn’t die. They seemed to be able to return to their bodies at any moment.

"Five-character Demon-Slaying Spell. Heh, too bad you haven’t mastered it yet." The Ghost Granny snapped her fingers inside the sedan. Immediately, the heads floated back into the air and reattached to the Yin soldiers' bodies. The soldiers twisted their necks and were restored to their original state.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

"Damn, these Yin soldiers are harder to deal with than evil ghosts!" Su Qing cursed.

After restoring to their original state, the Yin soldiers ignored Su Qing and charged straight at me.

Shit! I can't escape now. Grandpa, I’m sorry, but I don’t regret it. If I die, then so be it!

But just as I resigned myself, a clang sounded, and a sword suddenly fell from the sky, blocking my way.

It was a peach wood sword, more refined than Su Qing’s, and much larger. The sword was covered in runes, exuding a pure aura from it.

"Senior Brother!" Su Qing exclaimed, her face lighting up with joy.

At that moment, a young man dressed in a pristine white Taoist robe appeared behind us. He had an icy expression, strikingly handsome, but unlike the trendy young men of today, his features were sharp and imposing, radiating a powerful aura that made all the Yin soldiers freeze in place, not daring to move forward.

Seeing him, I recalled a line from a poem: "The man on the road, as beautiful as jade, a prince unmatched in the world."

Holy shit, is this Su Qing's senior brother? Aside from being handsome, he didn’t look much older than me, maybe just a year or two older.

But wait—Zhang Qing was clearly in his middle age, so why was this senior brother so young?

Could it be that Su Qing's sect doesn’t follow age-based hierarchy?

"Yang Tian? This girl actually invited someone troublesome," the Ghost Granny said hatefully from inside the sedan. It seemed she was wary of him.

"Paper Spirit Yin Soldiers, this murderous aura… looks like you’ve killed quite a few," Yang Tian said expressionlessly, as though he didn’t even regard the Yin soldiers as a threat.

"Since your Heavenly Master Sect insists on opposing me, then I’ll just kill all of you," the Ghost Granny suddenly said viciously.

At that moment, strange and incomprehensible chants echoed from the black sedan. The murmuring was maddening, and as the Yin soldiers heard the incantation, they began charging toward us again.

Yang Tian threw out a stack of yellow talismans. As they landed on the Yin soldiers, a massive flame burst forth, incinerating a whole row of Yin soldiers. He pulled the peach wood sword out of the ground and sliced through dozens of Yin soldiers, their heads rolling onto the ground.

The heads that fell to the ground immediately turned to ash, and I saw a dark aura drift out from the dead Yin soldiers. It turned into a broken paper figure.

Such terrifying Paper Spirit Yin Soldiers were no match for Yang Tian, who effortlessly slaughtered them all in an instant.

"Yang Tian, you really are impressive. We’ll meet again someday!" The Ghost Granny said, her voice filled with grudging admiration. Then, with a sudden puff, the paper sedan and paper figures caught fire, turning into ash.

"Hmph, pretending to be some kind of god," Yang Tian snorted coldly. He thrust the peach wood sword into a tree next to him. Strangely, even though the sun still hadn’t risen, there was a shadow near the tree, and Yang Tian’s sword pierced exactly into the shadow.

I heard a muffled grunt, as if someone behind the tree was coughing up blood. In the blink of an eye, Yang Tian slapped the tree, sending the person hidden behind it flying, and they crashed to the ground, spitting up blood.

It was a beautiful woman, around her thirties, not conventionally beautiful but with a bewitching allure, her face resembling that of a fox spirit.

Could this be the Ghost Granny? But no, wasn’t she supposed to be an old woman? Why did she look so young?

"Ghost Granny, you’ve been using witchcraft and paper rituals to exploit and harm people. Have you ever considered facing this day?" Yang Tian said indifferently.

If Yang Tian was right, then this was truly the Ghost Granny?

"Hmph, I’ve lost, no excuses. Kill me or do whatever you want," the Ghost Granny said, throwing herself onto the ground, resigned to her fate, no longer resisting.
