Fifteen

Lysandra met the team at the Yarian Port as they landed, her presence a welcome sight amidst the bustling crowd. Ryn, with a sigh of relief, pulled her into a tight hug. "It's good to see you, Lysandra,"

Lysandra returned the hug warmly, her eyes scanning the group. "And you, Ryn. Who's your new friend?" she asked, noticing Aurelia standing slightly apart.

Ryn stepped back, motioning to Aurelia. "This is Aurelia. She's a skilled fighter and she decided to join us."

Aurelia extended her hand, a small smile on her lips. "Nice to meet you."

Lysandra shook her hand firmly. "Welcome, Aurelia. We can use all the help we can get."

Ryn's expression grew serious as she relayed the recent events. "Vex has Jax and almost all the data on the Silent Moon Project. He just needs ours, and I don't plan on giving it to him."

Lysandra's eyes narrowed with concern, but she smiled reassuringly. "I’m glad you’re back, Ryn. Why don’t you get some rest and tomorrow, we’ll come up with a plan."

She nodded, no arguments from her. Ryn checked into the inn for the night. The familiar surroundings of her room offered a small comfort after the relentless battles. As she lay on the bed, the tension in her muscles began to ease. She took a deep breath, allowing the familiarity of the space to wash over her.

The soft mattress beneath her and the gentle hum of the city outside her window felt like a sanctuary. Despite the looming threat of Vex and the weight of their mission, she felt a glimmer of hope. With her friends by her side she knew they had a fighting chance.

Slowly, sleep began to claim her, pulling her into its gentle embrace. The events of the day faded into the background, and she found solace in the quiet moments of rest. Tomorrow is a new day, but for now, she allowed herself to drift off, her mind finally at ease.

Ryn's ear cuff buzzed, waking her from a deep sleep just as the sun started to rise and peek through the curtains. Groggy and disoriented, she reached up and tapped the device, hearing Kyle's voice on the other end.

"Hope I didn't wake you," he said.

Ryn groaned, trying to shake off the remnants of sleep. "I've been awake for hours," she replied, though the heaviness in her voice betrayed her lie.

Kyle chuckled softly. "Sure you have. Listen, we need you at the council chambers. There's something we need to discuss. It's important."

Ryn sighed, the urgency in Kyle's voice pulling her fully awake. She jumped out of bed and tied her hair back quickly. Flicking open her inventory, she scrolled through her outfits, settling on the one she received after arriving in Nyon. With a click, the outfit materialized onto her body, fitting perfectly as if it had always been there. She glanced at her reflection briefly, making sure she looked presentable, then headed out.

The cool morning air greeted her as she stepped outside, the city of Yaris just beginning to stir. Ryn's mind raced with possibilities of what the urgent meeting could be about. She made her way through the streets, and she couldn't shake the feeling that this discussion would be pivotal for their next steps in the battle against Vex.

Ryn headed inside the council chambers and found Kyle standing with Aurelia and Lysandra, along with a few other Droppers she hadn't seen before. Kyle stepped forward and introduced her to the newcomers: Yaveen, a tall, handsome man with slicked-back hair, and Kara, whose arms were crossed as her blonde hair cascaded in a puffy braid over her shoulder.

"What's going on, Kyle?" Ryn asked, her curiosity piqued.

Kyle moved to the center console where the holographic globe of Abos hovered above it. He zoomed into a specific location, and the detailed map displayed a region she hadn’t seen yet. "Thanks to Lysandra, we've located Vex's base," he announced, there was a hint of satisfaction in his voice.

A smile crossed Ryn's lips. She patted Lysandra on the shoulder, expressing her gratitude. "Good work.”

Everyone gathered around the console, the air thick with anticipation as they prepared to discuss the plan to raid Vex's stronghold.

Ryn stood at the center of the gathering crowd, the tension in the room palpable. "What's our move?" she asked, her voice steady.

Kyle looked around, meeting the eyes of each Dropper. More were arriving by the minute, their expressions hardened. "Well," he began, "we're planning a raid on Vex's base."

Ryn's eyes narrowed. "Do we have the numbers?" She asked.

Kyle nodded confidently. "Droppers from all over Abos are coming to Yaris to join us. Vex hasn't been a nuisance just for us; he's been causing trouble for many other Droppers and players as well. They've all had enough of him."

Aurelia stepped forward, her presence commanding attention. "We can't take the ship directly to Vex's base," she explained. "Jess is sending a boat to Yaris. We'll use that to get as close as possible. After that, we'll have to hike the rest of the way."

The room buzzed with murmurs of agreement as the Droppers listened intently.

"There will be two groups," Aurelia continued. "One will create a diversion at the front entrance, drawing Vex's forces out. The second group will find another way in, retrieve the data, and take out Vex."

Ryn considered the plan, her mind racing through the details. She looked at Kyle, Aurelia, and the others, gauging their readiness. "Who's leading the diversion team?" she asked.

Kyle stepped forward again. "Kara will lead the diversion team. We need someone experienced to draw their fire and keep them occupied. Aurelia will head the infiltration team."

Aurelia nodded in agreement. "We'll need to move quickly and silently. Once we're inside, we need to download the data before Vex knows what's happening."

Ryn felt a sense of confidence in their plan. She turned to the Droppers gathered around. "This won't be easy, but we have the element of surprise on our side. Vex won't see us coming."

Droppers exchanged determined glances, their fingers itching to grip their blades.

Aurelia continued, "Jess has ensured that the boat is stocked with supplies for the journey. We'll need to be prepared for anything once we land."

Yaveen, standing tall and imposing, spoke up. "I've scouted the area around Vex's base. There are multiple entry points we can use for the infiltration team. We'll need to coordinate our movements precisely."

Kara, her arms still crossed but her eyes sharp with focus, added, "We can't underestimate Vex. He's cunning and ruthless. But we can take him down."

Ryn took a deep breath, feeling the weight of the moment. "Alright, everyone. Get your gear ready and prepare to leave. We’re going as soon as the boat gets here."

As the Droppers dispersed to make final preparations, Ryn felt a surge of pride fill her. They were a diverse group, brought together by a common goal: to stop Vex and reclaim what he had taken. The path ahead would be challenging for them, but she knew they could succeed. If they didn’t, there would be no hope for Abos.

The sun began to set, casting shadows over Yaris as the Droppers assembled by the docks. The boat arrived, sturdy and ready for their mission. Ryn, and the rest of the Droppers boarded.

The boat cut through the water, carrying them towards their mission. Ryn stood at the bow, the wind in her hair and the salt spray on her face. She glanced back at her companions, each one prepared for the battle to come.

They were ready. The raid on Vex's base would be their most significant challenge yet, but together, they would overcome it. Kyle made his way over to Ryn, leaning against the railing next to her. The sea stretched out before them. "He'll come back," Kyle said softly.

Ryn took a deep breath, the weight of their upcoming raid pressing heavily on her. "Yeah, but if I take his body core out, he'll take longer to respawn. Plus, he comes back with nothing, he has to start over in a different server," she explained, her voice steady.

Kyle sighed, the gravity of their situation sinking in. "What if he rises to power again in the new server?" he asked, concern in his tone.

Ryn shrugged, unshaken by the thought. "Then he'll be the other server's problem and not ours," she replied, her eyes fixed on the horizon. The setting sun cast a warm glow over the water, a brief moment of peace before the storm of battle.

Kyle nudged Ryn gently, a small smile forming. "You should get some rest. We'll hit land tomorrow."

"I will soon," she promised, her mind still racing with thoughts of their mission. With a final glance at the darkening sky, Ryn headed below deck.

As she descended, the sound of laughter and music greeted her. A small party had formed, a brief respite from the tension of their journey. She scanned the room and caught sight of Yaveen. He stood tall, his presence commanding yet approachable. Their eyes met, and a smile danced on his lips.

Ryn made her way over to him, her heart lightening for the first time in days. "Hey there, stranger," she said with a playful smirk.

"Hey yourself," Yaveen replied, his eyes twinkling. "Glad to see you joining the fun. I was beginning to think you were all work and no play."

Ryn laughed, the sound easing the tension in her shoulders. "I can have fun when the right company is around," she teased.

"Well, you're in luck," Yaveen said, leaning in closer. "Because I happen to be excellent company."

They exchanged flirtatious banter over a couple of drinks. Yaveen's charm was undeniable, and Ryn found herself drawn to him.

The night wore on and Yaveen leaned in closer, his voice low and inviting. "Care to join me in my cabin?" he asked, his eyes sparkling with mischief.

Ryn's heart skipped a beat, the tension of the past days melting away in his presence. She nodded, a playful smile on her face. "Lead the way," she replied.

They made their way to Yaveen's cabin, the sounds of the party fading into the background. Inside, the room was cozy, illuminated by the soft glow of a lamp. Yaveen closed the door behind them, his gaze intense.

He opened up his ear cuff, and with a few taps, his outfit dematerialized, leaving him standing in nothing. Ryn's face turned red, a mixture of surprise and excitement. He smirked at her reaction, enjoying the moment.

"Care to join me in the shower?" he asked, his voice a low, seductive rumble.

Ryn's blush deepened, but she couldn't help the smile that spread across her face. "Why not?" she replied, stepping closer to him.

Yaveen led her to the small bathroom attached to the cabin. He turned on the shower, the sound of running water filling the room. As the steam began to rise, Ryn followed his lead, opening her ear cuff and letting her own outfit disappear.

They stepped into the shower together, the warm water cascading over them. In Yaveen's presence, Ryn felt a sense of normalcy return, a brief escape from the chaos of their mission.

The steam engulfed them, creating an intimate cocoon as Yaveen cupped Ryn's chin, gently pulling her face upward to meet his lips. The kiss was fervent and intense, a mixture of newfound attraction and a mutual need to release the tension that had built up over the past days. Despite having just met, the connection between them was undeniable, a spark that neither wanted to extinguish.

Yaveen's arms wrapped around her, pulling her closer as the warm water splashed over their bodies. Ryn felt her apprehensions melt away, replaced by a sense of belonging. She had always been guarded, but in this moment, with Yaveen, she let go. The shower was filled with their whispered words and shared breaths, the steam rising around them like a veil.

The next morning arrived with the gentle hum of the ship and the blinds automatically raising as the sun began to shine. The golden light bathed the room in a serene glow over the bed where Ryn lay in Yaveen's embrace. She awoke with a smile, her mind still lingering on the events of the previous night. Carefully, she moved his arm away, not wanting to wake him. She whispered that she was going to get breakfast, her words barely audible.

Before stepping out, she opened her inventory and selected an outfit. With a soft chime, it appeared onto her body, the fabric fitting her perfectly. She took a deep breath and opened the door, only to bump into Kyle who was passing by.

Kyle gave her a puzzled look, his brow furrowing in confusion. "Isn't that Yaveen's room?" he asked, piecing the situation together as a grin spread across his face. "Oh, I see how it is."

Ryn rolled her eyes, feeling a mix of embarrassment and amusement. "Shut it, Kyle," she retorted, playfully swatting his arm. She tried to walk past him, but Kyle sidestepped, blocking her path.

"I mean, I knew you were capable of a lot, Ryn, but I didn't expect this," He teased, his grin widening.

Ryn couldn't help but laugh, shaking her head. "It was just one night, Kyle. Don't read too much into it."

Kyle held up his hands in mock surrender. "Hey, no judgment here. I'm just glad to see you enjoying yourself for once."

Ryn smiled, a genuine warmth in her expression. "Thanks, Kyle. I appreciate it."

They made their way to the dining area, the aroma of breakfast wafting through the air. The mess hall was already bustling with activity, other Droppers chatting and preparing for the day ahead. Ryn grabbed a tray and started to fill it with food, the simple act grounding her after the emotional rollercoaster of the previous night.

As they sat down, Kyle couldn't resist one last comment. "So, how was it?" he asked, waggling his eyebrows.

Ryn rolled her eyes again but couldn't suppress a small smile. "Let's just say it was a much-needed distraction," she replied, taking a bite of her food.

Their conversation shifted to the upcoming mission, the atmosphere growing more serious. Kyle filled her in on the latest developments, their plans to raid Vex's base, and the final preparations they needed to make. Ryn listened intently, her mind switching back to mission mode.

As they finished breakfast, the ship's intercom crackled to life. "All Droppers, prepare for disembarkation. We will be landing shortly," the captain's voice announced.

Ryn and Kyle stood up, ready to face the day. As they made their way back to the deck, Yaveen emerged from his cabin, his eyes meeting Ryn's with a knowing smile. She returned his smile. His hand softly touched hers as he walked by and a flutter shot through her body. She looked back, hoping he would do the same and their eyes met almost instantly. He gave her a playful wink and she shook her head with a grin.

Droppers gathered above on the deck. Shore was just ahead and others were preparing the boats. It wouldn’t be too long now before they start the trek inland. Ryn felt her stomach turn. Knowing they were about to put an end to Vex’s tyranny made her hopeful but nervous. Vex was strong, and his group would be too and she didn’t know how many people he had on his side. This could be a suicide mission…
