Airis Vanixi had died—and while retaining her consciousness, she became a disembodied soul in the Wanderer’s Plane, a realm close to Aver’teria, what she knew as the Underworld.
There she encountered a pair of strange angelic attendants and two of the Celestials: the Goddesses, Virgo and Capricorn,
Virgo offered her immortality, in exchange for fulfilling a role in an obscure purpose that her ancestors were charged with when they were created by the Goddess. As terms to agree to the deal, Airis asked for the ability to bring her fallen comrades back to life.
In a bizarre binding ritual with the Goddess Capricorn, Airis was given the ability to invoke powerful new spells by using a strange magick unknown to the mortal plane, Chaos—so long as she could figure out how to handle the powers, that is.
Some time after returning to Terae, a mysterious assassin appeared disguised as a bandit along with a band of brigands and attacked the gates of Tolin. Intent on removing Airis’ head from her shoulders, the assassin cast taboo void magicks and isolated the fledgling empress.

With Mei’s aid the assailant was pushed back but things weren’t as simple as they seemed. The assassin broke into Airis’ manor, leaving a note in the middle of the night warning of future attacks by the Renaultians.
Airis, Rias, and Hailey visited the city’s church to search for clues about the impending rebirth of the Phoenix God, Ignicorus. They managed to find exactly they were looking for, as the gemstone-locked God made an appearance when a relevant tome surfaces. Rias stumbled upon a hidden pathway that descended deep under the church, where the party discovered a ritual room which facilitated the rebirth of the Phoenix God.
Seeking allies, Mei departed to search for the Aestori, her elven kin whom she thought were in hiding in their ancestral home. She succeeded, and returned to Tolin with Aestori diplomats in tow—under the beratement of a pissed off Julius, for not returning within her allotted mission time.
Airis and company traveled to the elven “village” of Umbraedomis to find much more than they expected. The elven city was enormous, well fortified, and seemed to have a thriving economy.
As they settled down in lodging provided by their diplomatic patron, Aisling, the Aestori government sent an abrupt notice that they wished to meet with Airis the very next day.
