In the viridescent forests of the coil of Ascendance two winged figures sat in a ring of scarlet lilies. One was armored in gold, the other in a dark green and black.
Through a portal-like fissure in the space ahead of them, images of the rebirth ritual played out.
Vita jabbed her arm into the side of her companion.
“You know… I think she’s a lot like you.”
“…”
“Think about it, Mors. She’s now an orphan, fighting tooth and nail to survive in a world that is nothing like she wants it to be. If we went back a few thousand years…”
“We’re not the same.”
“I didn’t say you were the same. She’s like you—like us. They all kind of are. A faction which has nothing if they do not fight.”
“If they are like us. Then I pity them. For the path we traveled was sealed in the blood of our siblings.”

Vita sighed deeply, letting herself fall back onto the soft grass.
“Do you think Ikki has met her yet?”
“…”
“You’re not still fighting with Ikki, are you Mors?”
“We were never fighting.”
“You threw her off a cliff the last time we were together.”
“She called me sister.”
“She didn’t mean to upset you.”
“And yet, that was the exact outcome.”
“…”
The trees encircling the glade stood peacefully, not a single note sang through the forests.
Vita broke the silence, “Have you at least spoken to her since then? She mentioned she missed seeing you—”
Mors stood up abruptly, glaring down at Vita.
Blackened wings spread wide, disturbing the clearing around them. Vita scrambled to protect the blood-red flowers at their feet.
“Please, Mors, calm yourself! You tempt the wrath of our master.”
Mors looked back towards a stone pylon, embedded in the earth close by. With eyes full of disdain, Mors took flight.
Vita let out a dreary sigh, heavy and anguished.
“Oh, my dear sibling…”
