Well hello gorgeous readers,

I come bearing news of a mixed variety for this particular monk story.

As of right now, I am taking a short break from posting, as I am currently rewriting the opening chapters.

It isn’t a surprise I’m sure to many of you to hear that while I really loved the initial premise for this story and its characters, I struggled with getting the old rusty gears turning for it. Then a few of the chapters I polished up went out to some amazing editors in the publishing industry, and without needing to hear about my struggles, they all had the unanimous feedback that I had started to veer away from my original style. Which proves that when the writer’s heart can’t find its way in the story, it really does come out whether they want it to or not.

I think it was more difficult than I’d thought it’d be to delve away from my original breakout series; particularly as I am still actively writing it, and it was tricky finding the monk’s own voice that I could really enjoy and resonate with.

Well, those fine editors, while giving wildly kind praise for my work, really hit the nail on the head in terms of mood/ genre that I had lost sense of. Next thing I know, the old gears started clanking along once more and I knew exactly how I wanted this story to go.

The characters and a bunch of plot points in this first draft will come back in the rewrite, though you iridescent beings will actually be privy to more ‘background’ knowledge as I will not be explicitly sharing some of the information of the characters and town in the new version.

So what does this mean for the existing story?

Well, I’m going to let this announcement sit for a few weeks, and then I will be removing the chapters/ changing the story cover, and sharing with you all the new and improved Peculiar Monk of Oxby. I’m already getting very excited to share it with you, and I’ve already completed the rewritten prologue, first chapter, and am well underway with the second chapter as well.

Those of you that opt to stick with me while I hammer this out, you have my fullest heartfelt thanks. I hadn’t anticipated getting this far in a writing career, and it seems I am still getting a hang of balancing the work/ separating stories. You are so magnanimous to bear with me, and at the end of the day, I promise I’m just trying to give you the absolute best work/ story I can. You don’t deserve anything less than the best I can give. Your comments and thoughts have all been so incredibly helpful along this journey, and it is one of the many reasons I continue to post my first drafts here on Royal Road. You all are so brilliant that I wouldn’t be where and what I am today if it weren’t for all of you.
