Chapter 5

It’s been three months since the awakening ceremony.

Somewhere in the far north a youth and a white-haired old man were climbing a high snowy mountain with precise and slow movement.

The youth wore a black hide coat and held twin broadswords and a long bow on his back, while the old man has giant sword kept on his back. These two people logically were Ares and William

“Damn…that old man has gone nuts, who in their sane mind would send their son in a Subjugation task?” (Ares)

Ares said while gasping for air. Even if he was a 3rd Rank Warrior he didn’t have limitless stamina

“Why are you complaining so much? You should have seen when your father and I took our first subjugation task. We had to kill five Yetis who killed thousands of Humans in the peripheral zones of the Kingdom. It was a tough battle one hundred soldiers died before we managed to take down those Yetis. I think that it was then, seeing all those torn apart corpses  that your father decided to become stronger...and he succeeded, today he is the strongest Human existing” (William)

William narrated while remembering his old days with a proud expression showing on his face.

“Why can’t we leave these lands? Father is so strong” (Ares)

Ares asked while looking up to William who easily climbed mountain, clearing the way for Ares to pass. William climbed the mountain as if no obstacles existed and he was strolling through his own garden with calm and precise steps.

“Why can’t we leave these lands? It’s because we’re not powerful enough…you know that there are nine Ranks for Magus and Warriors right?” (William)

William stopped and looked downwards

“Yes…I know that” (Ares)

Ares nodded

“So, do you think that the Ninth Rank is the end?” (William)

William seriously asked Ares while looking at his face.

Ares stopped to think but he had no information. Since he came to this world he learned tons of new things and in the Awakening ceremony when he sensed the strength of the Element he could tell that the power he had right now was nothing compared to the immensity of the elements

“The Ninth Rank is not the end” (Ares)

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

Ares resolutely spoke up

“HAHA..You are right the Ninth Rank is not the end, after the Ninth Rank exist the Transcendent level, but to achieve this Level is too difficult…Do you know why?” (William)

“No” (Ares)

Ares answered almost instantly, making a smile flash through William

“From the 1st Rank till the 9th Rank is just amassing Qi…but from the 9th Rank to the Transcendent level you need to comprehend a Profound Truth, after comprehending this Profound Truth the division between Magus and Warrior ceases to exist” (William)

“Profound Truth? What’s that?” (Ares)

“Profound Truth…I don’t know much about this subject, since the last Human Transcendent died thousands of years ago, by the hands of other races’ Transcendents…but some historic books says that the Profound Truth is when one comprehend the ‘Truth’ of a element and can bend it to one’s will. Some tales says that when someone comprehends a ‘Truth’ then they can destroy a mountain with a snap of fingers and burn down cities in the blink of an eye” (William)

Ares listened carefully to every word William said, and engraved it in his soul, but another question popped out in his mind.

“Oh…In one of the books I was reading I saw something called ‘Intent’, but I didn’t understand what intent is.” (Ares)

“Intent is used with weapons, you need to have a great deal of understanding on a weapon to create Intent…There are countless types of intents: Sword Intent, Axe Intent, Bow Intent, Dagger Intent etc. Most people who can comprehend Intent are labeled as a Genius….Let me show you what are intents” (William)

William said as he took his Great sword from his back and held it with both hands.

“Look carefully”(William)

William took a deep breath and raised his sword vertically above his head, after some seconds the sword descended at an amazing speed, tearing apart the air itself and creating a bright light that shot up in the air piercing the gray skies.

Ares finally could see the natural blue sky that he used to see in his past life, but this didn’t last long as the hole rapidly closed itself.

“I got it…You did not use neither Battle Qi nor Magus Qi, but other kind of energy” (Ares)

“Yeah. This is Sword Intent; it took me twenty years to obtain it. Now let’s go, it’ll soon be nightfall and I don’t want to spend the night on this freezing mountain” (William)

William said as he started to climb the mountain, grabbing some rocks to propel himself upwards.

Ares took some moments to digest the new knowledge and right away followed behind William.

“Who’s coming?”

Ares and William stood in front of a great wall constructed of stone. The snow piled on the wall creating a magnificent view as if a frozen fort existed there. Several archers stood on top of the wall aiming their bows at William and Ares.

“I am William Reybear and this is the Crown Prince; Ares Morningstar. We’re here in command of the King to help in the Subjugation Task”(William)

William loudly stated their identities and objective, while putting more emphasis in Ares status, hearing their names, the archers on the wall lowered their bows, while one archer rapidly descended the stairs searching for their superior.

After some minutes loud noises spread through the air as the gate slowly opened itself.

“Major Samuel greets the Crown Prince and General William” (Samuel)

A muscular black haired man wearing a white hide coat exited from the gate and deeply bowed towards William and Ares

Ares analyzed the man and nodded. This man probably passed through hundreds of bloody battlefields, his posture was flexible as if preparing to react at any threat.

“Lift your head Major Samuel, and let’s go inside or I’ll freeze to death” (William)

Samuel raised his head and smiled.

“Understood. Please accompany me”(Samuel)

Turning around Samuel headed towards the gate, as William and Ares followed closely behind
