4. The Armoury

4. The Armoury

Quickly sitting down in my seat I looked up at the giant monitor. I heard the sound of a hatch opening and turned to look at the hatch to the bridge a ginger-haired girl with green eyes ran into the room spotted me and quickly ran over to my chair.

“Michelle, you told me to go to my station before we entered the quantum tunnel, everything in there was a little busted but worked fine when i went to eat but when I got back I soon found something wrong in the engineering room.”

she stopped talking as she pulled a fried circuit board out of her pocket and showed it to me.

“this circuit board was fried i am sure it was what caused us to fall out of the quantum tunnel.”

she looked nervous but tryd to smile reasuringly as she continued on.

“the other three ships will not fall out of the quantum tunnel unless their quantum drives fail as ours did, you see they only needed our drive to open the tunnel and enter it but once they were in, their quantum drives took over the rest ensuring they made it safely to their destination” she finished then looked down at the fried circuit board.

Her eyes snapped back up to mine a few seconds later.

“Oh sorry, I came up here to show you because there is not a spare and I was wondering what I should do''

I felt dread slowly set in as I looked up at the giant monitor spotting the large ship slowly getting bigger I turned to the new engineer and made my decision.

“hope that ship has a replacement piece” I said to Stephanie.

That is when Jessica spoke to me excitedly seems she was happy to be able to finally contribute.

"Captain I have discovered what kind of ship it is, according to the galactic trade network that ship is an ancient elven cargo spaceship."

my head snapped around to look at Jessica.

“Did you say elven as in an elf as in pointy ear, like three hundred years lifespan elf?" I asked excitedly.

Jessica turned back to her screen and after typing on it for a minute in which I stared at her like I was five years old and had just discovered candy.

"Yes, the galactic trade network slave section says that the elf is a creature that stands on average at 8 feet tall has elongated pointed ears. It's diet consists mostly of vegetarian cuisine and sells for anywhere between ten thousand to thirty-five thousand galactic credits or gc for short" Jessica replied.

I shook my head as I looked at the ship on the screen.

“Yes, well the ship is now classified as ancient so I doubt there’s anyone still on it to worry about.”

I pointed at the back end of the ship to what I suspected was the cargo bay.

“Pilot let’s land in the cargo bay it is big enough for our ship to do it, yes?”

The pilot glanced over her shoulder looking up at me.

“Yes captain, I can do that” she said as she maneuvered the ship towards the cargo bay of the ancient ship.

i got up and walked over to the communications officer.

“Ship wide broadcast please.” I said to her.

She nodded her head and pushed a few buttons before telling me.

“Go ahead, Captain.”

I smiled and turned towards the bridges hatch door.

“Captain to crew, assemble in the cargo bay and see if you can find some spacesuits and weapons.”

I looked over the bridge and smiled.

“That includes the bridge once we have landed.”

I then opened the hatch door and headed for the cargo bay myself. As i was walking to the cargo bay everyone was running past me hurrying about looking for secret rooms/lockers perhaps an armory I chuckled as I watched them it was not until I was about to go past an airlock I had not noticed before that I noticed a door outline in the wall stopping in front of it. I stared at it for a minute before reaching out and pressing my hand to it as my hand touched it a blue screen appeared to open just behind the surface of the wall it read.

*Armoury, captain's handprint recognized, do you wish to open the armoury?*

I laughed softly as I shook my head.

“This world is so much like a video game, I swear”

I then nodded and said.

“open the armoury.”

The door disintegrated instantly revealing sword handles lined up on a shelf above them was all sorts of laser rifles.

“wicked” I mumbled as I took a sword handle.

As I held it in front of me I frowned thinking about where the blade was when one shot out of the handle turning the sword handle into a short sword.

“Well, i’ll be a koala’s uncle.”

I laughed as I gave it a few practice swings before wondering how to turn the blade off. Turns out that was all it took as the blade slid back into the handle vanishing from sight. I smiled and place the blade handle against my thigh right in my hands resting spot. I looked up at the laser rifles and smiled excitedly. Before reaching for one I noticed the ammo was a battery slotted into the bottom of the handle grip as my hand closed around the handle i pulled it off the rack and aimed the gun down the hall and nodded my head. This thing felt powerful no sooner had the thought to store it on my body had passed through my mind. The rifle reacted, by folding in on itself until all that was left was the handle grip that I was holding. I stuck it in my pocket, I headed for the cargo bay, as I approached a hatch I heard a screeching sound like metal being torn apart, I blinked seemed like a natural thing to do at a time like this but when my eyes opened what I saw filled me all the way up with dread

floating on a blue window just in front of me and I noticed the hatch I was walking towards had sealed itself like it wasn't there anymore, I mean I was looking at a wall, it took me less than a second to see it but I did not comprehend what it meant until I was floating in space watching the ship get farther away from me. I floated there watching it trying to figure out how I got out into space when I realized I had another problem.

“I am not wearing a spacesuit!”

Turns out I didn’t need to as I was not breathing, this came as a surprise to me but it turns out that vampires did not breathe. A smile slowly spread across my face but it soon vanished as I thought about the blue window still in front of my face.

“passive healing? Why would I need that right now?”

But that quickly left my mind as I looked at the vastness of space and my ship as it accelerated away from me as laser fire flew past me towards my ship, then it was gone, my ship was gone!

It did not take me long to figure out the quantum drive had been activated and the ship had jumped away to somewhere else, but i could not work out how they had activated the quantum drive.

I soon came to realize what had been shooting at my ship, it was the only other thing out here, the ancient elven cargo ship. I was stuck floating through space unable to move just floating in the endless space.

“Maybe I will hit a planet and die on entry, be burnt up? Maybe my ship will come back for me? Maybe I will be picked up by some other ship somehow?” These were the sort of thoughts I had as I floated out here in the endless void of space.

I do not know how much time passed but I began to notice in the corner of my vision I could now see the ancient elven cargo ship. From what I could estimate it took another hour before I was facing the ship and I could see I was drifting towards its cargo bay.

“this is amazing I will not die out here, I can get aboard that ship, but it has been out here a while there could be problems with it and reasons why it is out here, I might still be stranded!” I stared at the ship and decided I would have to wait and see what shape the ship was in once I was on board until then all I had to do was wait, so I did, I waited and waited a little more and waited…

As I blinked I suddenly felt like I was falling right before I felt my body jerk as I landed on what felt like a mattress of a bed. The place I was in now obviously was not the void of space. It was in fact my bedroom back on Earth! I sat up as I stared around my room confused for a bit, it took me a bit longer to come to the conclusion I must have been having one hell of a crazy dream, as my room was perfectly normal as I had left it before I went to sleep. All my books were on their shelves in the corner by the window, the desk under my window was there, it was weirdly clean. I was sure I had maps and routes to that boss all over it with my strategies on how to beat him.

“Maybe mum cleaned the room while I was asleep.” I thought to myself.

Starting to think maybe I had gone crazy after all, as I knew perfectly well that my mother had not stepped foot in my room since I was ten. I reached to throw back the sheets off my bed only to realize I was laying on top of them. Slowly moving my legs to swing them over the side of the bed and stand up. I glanced down at my legs I blinked a few times as I realized that I was not looking down at the legs I was expecting to see. No, the legs I was looking at was those of a girl, the same ones I had when I was in the dream I was sure of this as I stared at them I felt confused for a bit before standing up and walking over to the mirror on the sliding door of my wardrobe I looked into the mirror seeing Michelle looking back at me and I raised my hand slowly up to my face watching her do it as well.

“fuck me” I groaned.

Coming to the realization that I was still Michelle "How did Michelle get in my room?" I wondered as I stared at myself in the mirror.

I noticed a woman sitting on the edge of my bed behind me as I looked into the mirror at her I frowned before I turned to look at her and she smiled at me.

“I am Olivia, I am a part of your system hello package, it is nice to finally meet you.” she said to me.

“What do you want?” I asked her as I looked around with a confused expression on my face.

I was starting not to like today to many things was confusing and no one was offering much information as to what the hell was going on. I was also trying not to freak out but at this point, I felt I was owed one.

On the bright side, I was managing to hold my shit together.

“Just wanted to see how you were doing, you nearly died you know, I had to gift you the passive healing ability to keep you alive, you would have died without it and I can not let my host die because then I would die, you understand right?” She told me this as if she was reading the news or a weather report.

However, I did notice the underlying threat that was there as well.

I opened then closed my mouth a few times trying to think of something to say as I stared at the woman. I could not resist glancing at my bedroom door making sure the escape route was clear before looking back at her, she smiled and shook her head.

“There is nothing on the other side of that door, this conversation is happening in your head.” She giggled as her cold eyes watched me.

“Then you will not mind if I open the door… will you?” I replied as I smiled softly back to her.

My feet slowly inching towards the door.

“Best not to and I have much more...” She froze for four seconds. I know it was four seconds because I felt the need to count it before she continued talking.

“Important things to tell you, for instance, you are currently in a section of space that is illegal to be in by order of the high council of the vampiric court.” she raised her hand towards her face as if she was about to tell me a secret only to freeze again.

This time it was 8 seconds before she spoke in a whispered tone.

“There are criminals living on an arc cruiser out here somewhere, the council can not figure out where exactly the ship is and the criminals living aboard it have removed their system implants and are living off-grid.”

she nodded her head before adding “very illegal stuff, who knows what they might do if they catch you.”

she froze again then vanished.

It was at that moment that the room flashed and changed in the blink of an eye. I was still standing in my room but there was a hole where the helicopter had crashed into my room and all of my stuff was missing.

“What the hell is happening?”

I quickly glanced around waiting for her to reappear assuming this was another glitch? Maybe?

My head started to hurt slowly at first then the headache built until it felt like someone was slamming a sledgehammer into my skull. I groaned in pain as I shuffled over to the bedroom door. This would be my only chance to see what is on the other side. So I took it, grabbing the door handle and pulling the door open.

My younger brother was standing on the other side having been walking past, turned and let out a scream as he threw himself against the wall opposite my door his arms raised, even one of his legs was raised as if he was about to defend himself by flailing at his attacker before he looked at me, I looked back at him.

“Mum! Some hot Asian babe is in Michael’s old room!” He screamed as the pain in my head became too much and I stumbled back into my room clutching at my head as I fell to the floor.

I found myself back in the darkness of the void. I lingered here in the darkest place of nothingness and nowhere for a few minutes or hours… maybe it was days I am not really sure, I couldn't tell and I was beginning to hate that about this place. I started trying to push forward, move or something, anything, as I struggled with it, I began to notice I could feel my body like it was there but not at the same time. Then everything snapped together and I bolted upright feeling the soft mattress under me.

I quickly opened my eyes looking around. A woman was standing over me smiling softly as she examined the side of my head. She was rather beautiful. Her long blond hair fell down to her lower back and then I noticed her ears. My eyes nearly bulged out of my head and I couldn't help staring at her ears when I saw they were pointed. I moved my eyes back to her face. She looked motherly and kind. I went to open my mouth to ask her a question but never managed to as her smile had turned to a snarl and she slapped me full on across the side of my face knocking me off the bed.
