Darkness
”Death... Huh.” Nex was floating around the black void called death. “Fitting...” Nex closed his non-existence eyes and let go of his past thoughts.
However, when he attempted to let go of his desire of being free of the torment of life, he thought of his previous life.
Since Nex was born, he was alone. His mother, a rape victim never accepted him. As such he lived a life of silence. His mother would look at him with dead fish eyes, he was reminder of the man who raped her. He had minimal care, with no love to be found.
At almost 2 years old, after Nex has weaned off his mother’s milk. His mother committed suicide. His name Nex, meant death in latin, something his mother wanted to happen.
Even when adopted by his aunt and uncle, his life was still painted in sadness. His father a raging alcoholic, and his aunt who abused him.
By kindergarden, his eyes were painted dark and teachers would talk about the child who would sit and stare into a corner.
Unlike his enviable classmates, who were showered in love and affection. Nex had to be alone in the darkness.
By elementary school, no one would attempt to talk to him, regarding him as “that kid” he amount of times he had talked could be counted on one hand and people generally stayed away to keep away from his depressing aura.
Some teachers, however seemed to feel bad for him, and introduced him to books. From that point onwards he couldn’t be seen without a book in his hand.
His aunt, who continued to torment him suddenly stopped when he said more that one word to his aunt.
“I don’t need coloring books, clothes, or money. Just tell me why have you taken my book?”
The only emotion he showed was a look of melancholy when sometimes reading a book. He continued this way until high school.

*Sob* *Sob*
“Huh?” Nex snapped out of his memories when he heard a sobbing sound in the distance. “Who are you?”
The sobbing stopped.
“I m sorry... I-It’s just that your backstory... It’s so sad.” the unknown voice said with a voice of sorrow.
“Well, it’s my life... So I have to accept it.” Nex whispered.
“I am Fate, since your past life was so... Unfortunate... I will give you another chance.” A ghostly image of a girl appeared in the endless darkness. She unfurled her fist and inside was a golden clock, softly ticking periodically.
“This to make sure that you don’t have the same experience that you had before.” The young girl who called herself Fate explained. “I will send you to the place you always dreamed of, the world of your book. Magicians, with powerful spells and chivalrous knights, a world of dreams and magic.”
“I hope you life is 10 times better than it was this time.” Fate waved a goodbye and pushed the golden clock into Nex’s ethereal body.
“10 times 0 is still zero.” Nex wryly retorted. The darkness faded, and a warm light enveloped him.
“That poor child, such a horrible life.” Fate started to go back to where she was needed in the immortal realm.
Fate stopped.
Fate grabbed her head and wailed in sadness. “I SENT HIM TO THE CORRUPT FANTASY WORLD.” She held her head and bawled. “I hope he’s alright.”
It was just the beginning.
