BEEP... BEEP... BEEP...
The sound of the machine reverberates through the room. Argus is standing behind the computer while Lisa is watching a short clip of Morak's rampage earlier in the city in her tablet.
"So you're saying that, that guy is this monstrous creature." Lisa asked while looking over the unconscious man lying on table.
Argus nods, he swipes the screen of the tablet and shows another clip of Valor Knight picking an unconscious man in the lighting chains that is supposedly restraining Morak.
"Wait, let me see who's this person is." She gives the tablet to Argus and start typing in the computer.
"You look smart with that cute glasses of yours." Argus says with sly smirk playing on his lips.
Lisa blushes slightly at the comment but quickly regained her composure, "Focus, Argus." She says as she continues working on the computer. She pulls up a database and starts searching for any information on the man in the clips.
As she digs deeper, she finds a match for the man. "Got it. His name is Dr. Viktor Mikhailov, a renowned scientist in the field of bioengineering. He used to work at NeuraCorp before disappearing a few months ago," Lisa explains, showing the information on the screen.
"NeuraCorp?" Argus lift his brow slightly.
"He's also called the savior of Valevstra. A city in Europe, he also has the ability to transform in some kind of creature and he has fully control of it." Lisa explains, as she continues to scroll down.
"Fully control? He doesn't look like he's in control when I'm fighting him." Argus says, his expression confused.
"I know, it's strange. According to the reports, Dr. Viktor's transformations were always under his control before his disappearance. Something must have changed," Lisa responds, her brows furrowed in thought.
"Or someone changed him." Argus adds.
Viktor's unconscious body twitches and Argus quickly steps in front of Lisa to protect her. Suddenly, Viktor's eyes snap open as he quickly stands up. He slowly turn his head and look at Argus and Lisa, "Who are you?"
...
"I remember fighting a guy, in a white suit. Then I saw a helicopter, after that I black out." Viktor explains, he hugs the blanket covering his body. "I'm not in control, am I?"
Argus stare at him, "First of all, I'm the guy in the white suit. And second, you went on a rampage."
Viktor looks puzzled, trying to piece together his recent memories. "I... I don't remember. How is this possible? I've always had full control over my transformation before." He looks genuinely concerned.
Lisa chimes in, "It seems like something or someone has interfered with your abilities, Dr. Mikhailov." She gives a cup of coffee to Viktor.
If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
Argus eyes the coffee and pout. "How come you make a coffee for him?" He says, a hint of jealousy in his voice.
"It's just coffee, Argus. And besides, Dr. Mikhailov probably needs it after whatever he's been through." Lisa explains nonchalantly.
Viktor nods appreciatively, taking a sip of the coffee. "Thank you. I can't believe I lost control like that. I need to find out what happened to me."
"Lisa can help you with that. I'm leaving." Argus says, his expression unreadable but Lisa knows that he's jealous. Lisa watches as Argus leaves the room, his footsteps echoing down the corridor.
"I'll do my best to help you, Dr. Mikhailov. Don't mind him, he's always like that." Lisa reassures him with a warm smile.
...
On top of a rooftop, Argus is sitting on the edge with his suit on. The night is young and the moon is illuminating the city, a cold air breeze past him as he watches the passerby below. His thoughts wanders for moment before he snaps back to reality.
Sirens starts to blare around the city. Red and blue lights are glowing in a distance. Argus stands up and jump from the building, before he can touch the ground, the wings on his suit opens.
His wings catch the air, and he soars through the night sky, the city lights twinkling below. As he glides effortlessly, he spots the source of the commotion a bank being robbed.
He hovers through the air before dropping on the ground besides the police cars and the cops circling the bank.
"What's the situation?" He asks to Officer Gwen.
Gwen jumps in shock, but quickly regained her composure. "Valor Knight. Two powered individuals are robbing the bank."
Argus nods. "I'll handle this. Keep the civilians safe," He commands before sprinting towards the bank entrance.
He slams the door opens and what he saw inside stops him from his track. A man is standing before him, staring straight to him.
"Please leave... Before somebody get hurts." The man declares, his expression unreadable.
"Then surrender peacefully." Argus said.
The man stares at him, "I'm afraid, I can't." He says, his eyes is full of rage yet his face is not showing it.
The tension in the room is palpable as Argus and the man lock eyes, their gazes unwavering.
"Listen, there's always another way. You don't have to do this," Argus tries to reason with the man, his voice calm but firm.
The man's hand twitches, his eyes flickering with uncertainty. "You don't understand. I have to do this," He says, his voice laced with desperation.
"Alright then, less talking. Let's get crazy!" Argus charged forward with daggers on hand and a smile growing inside his mask.
The man's body jolts as he realized that his body is starting to adapt and getting ready to dodge. He sidestep to dodge and a clone of him emerge to dodge to the opposite side.
Argus notice it and pulled back from his charge, "You a cloner? That's cool." He says, as he throws two daggers towards the man and his clone.
The man jumps again to the side and his clone does the same. The man leaves another clone on its way and his clone leaves another clone too.
The room is quickly filling up with clones as Argus tries to keep track of the real man. He swiftly moves around, dodging attacks and keeping his focus sharp.
Argus smirks beneath his mask, impressed by the man's abilities. "Nice trick. I'm actually confused right now."
Argus continues to engage with the clones, analyzing their movements and trying to anticipate the real man's next move. The room is a blur of swift dodges, dagger throws, and clones disappearing and reappearing.
Just then, a bunch things starts to launch at Argus with incredible speed. Argus stop his attack at the man's clone and jumps behind a wall. "You have another ability?!" He shouts at the man.
The man raised his eyebrow and his clones does the same. "That's not me."
Suddenly, a woman appears beside the man. Bags of cash floating around her, "We need to leave now, 00-X."
The man nods and with a snap of his finger, all the clone inside the room disappeared. "Is that enough?" He asks to the woman.
"Yes, we'll leave now." She says with a smile. "Although, I didn't expect to meet a superhero here." She stares directly at the wall, where Argus is hiding.
Argus steps out from behind the wall, his daggers at the ready. "Yep, well that's a lot of cash, I can't let you walk away with it."
"Oh, I see." The woman chuckles slightly. With a flick of her fingers, Argus flies across the room hitting the wall behind.
He tries to stand up but the woman flick his finger again, causing the wall to break and Argus scattered outside the bank, landing on a police car.
Argus groans, feeling sore from the impact. Sirens wail as police officers rush towards him. With a smirk beneath his mask, he whispers to himself, "Well, that didn't go as planned."
THE NEXT DAY...
"Last night, two unknown assailants robbed the bank and successfully defeats our so called hero "Valor Knight" in a fight–"
Argus turns off the television and throws the remote on the couch. He starts walking towards his kitchen but he stop when he sees a picture hanging on the wall. A picture of him and a girl with orange hair smiling at each other.
"Oh, Lisa... I miss you so much." He reaches out his fingers brushing on the frame as a pang of longing fills his heart.
"Why don't you ask her out again?" A woman voice speaks behind him.
Argus jumps in shock, as he turns around to see Themis standing behind him. "What are you doing here?"
Themis raised her eyebrow, "What do you mean? I'm inside you, remember? I can see all things that you see." She explains.
"Oh, yeah, right." He manages to say.
"Anyway, back to my question. Why don't you ask her out again?" Themis asks, looking at Argus curiously.
Argus sighs and leans against the wall, his eyes fixed on the picture. "I don't know, Themis. It's been so long. What if she's moved on? What if she doesn't feel the same way anymore?"
Themis walks closer to Argus, placing a hand on his shoulder. "You'll never know unless you try. Life's too short for regrets, Argus. Take a chance."
