Knight's Duty

4 MONTHS LATER...

A masked man is running from a hooded figure who's moving like a wolf stalking their prey. The masked man tighten his hold to the large bag and continue to run like his life depends on it.

The hooded figure jumps from the roof and lands in front of the masked man, leaving him no choice but to stop.

"W-Who are you?" The masked man ask with his trembling voice.

"Come on, man. Chill out, I'm not here to hurt you." The hooded figure says in a funny tone. The light cast towards him, revealing a white armor above a black fabric and a scaled white wings on his back.

"Please leave me alone!" The masked man shouts in fear. He pulls a gun out and points it towards Argus, he pulls the trigger and the sound of gunshot reverberates through the alleyway.

"Ow, man. That hurts." Argus grabs the bullet from the fabric of his clothes, the bullets didn't fierce his clothes nor leaves a mark. "Just kidding."

With a sudden movement, Argus throws a silver dagger towards the gun, making it fall and leaving the masked man defense less.

"Just give me the bag, so I can return it to the bank." Argus says with a smirk.

The masked man hesitates, staring at Argus with a mix of fear and confusion. He slowly lowers the bag, looking at Argus warily.

"Why should I trust you?" The masked man asks, his voice still shaky.

Argus chuckles and raises his hands in a non-threatening gesture. "Because, my friend, I am the last person you should be worried about right now. Trust me, I'm on your side."

The masked man eyes Argus suspiciously but eventually relents, placing the bag on the ground and taking a few steps back.

"I don't want any trouble," The masked man says, his voice still trembling.

"Smart choice," Argus replies with a grin inside his mask, he picks up the bag and inspect it briefly. "Good thing you didn't decide to run. Trust me, you wouldn't have gotten far."

Suddenly, a distant siren can be heard, growing louder by the second. Argus glances towards the source of the sound and then back at the masked man. He quickly dashes forward and wrapped the masked man with a white ropes that he pulls from his side.

Argus secures the masked man tightly with the ropes, making sure he couldn't escape. The sirens were getting closer, signaling the arrival of the authorities.

"Hands in the air!" A woman voice shouts from behind.

Argus turns around with both of his hands raised, "Well, hello there, Officer Gwen." He says in a cheery tone.

Officer Gwen approaches cautiously, her hand on her holster as she surveys the scene in front of her. She sees Argus standing there with his hands up, a masked man tied up in white ropes at his feet.

"Valor Knight." Officer Gwen asks, her eyes narrowing as she looks between Argus and the masked man.

If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

"Just a little misunderstanding, Officer Gwen. This gentleman here was just returning something to the bank," Argus replies casually, gesturing towards the bag at his feet.

Officer Gwen eyes the bag suspiciously before turning her attention back to Argus. "And how did you get involved in this? You know vigilante behavior isn't tolerated in this city," She warns.

Argus shrugs nonchalantly. "I was just passing by and saw this guy in trouble. Thought I'd lend a hand," He explains with a mischievous glint in his eye.

"Alright, let's sort this out. We'll take it from here," Officer Gwen says as she reaches for her handcuffs to secure the masked man.

As she does so, Argus gives a small bow. "Always happy to help, Officer Gwen. Just doing my part to keep the streets safe," He says before stepping back to let the authorities take over.

"Valor Knight, we need to talk–" As she turns around, Argus is nowhere to be found.

...

Another peaceful night is saved by Argus. He sits on a bench, he is not wearing the suit now, he's in normal clothing with his bright silver hair tighten up in a ponytail.

He leans his back and calm himself up on the bench, "Ahh... What a night..." He says with a soft tone.

Suddenly, a burst of wind blows pass him and a figure of woman is now sitting beside him, "You're getting the hang of it now."

Argus twitch slightly by the sudden appearance of the woman. "I'm still getting shocked by you, popping out of thin air."

Themis let out a small chuckle, "Well, I'm here to tell you that... Something is going to happen in this city."

"What's gonna happen?" Argus asked nonchalantly.

"Something evil is going to appear and it's powerful." She says in a serious tone.

Argus's expression quickly shifted to serious as he glanced at Themis. "How do you know this?"

"I can sense it, Argus. My abilities allow me to feel the injustice in the balance of the world," Themis explained, her eyes reflecting a worry. "We need to be prepared."

"Whatever or whoever comes, it will never succeed." Argus says, his expression serious.

SOMEWHERE INSIDE A LAB...

Inside a tank filled with green fluid, a unconscious human is floating, his body is scarred and covered in strange markings. The faint green glow of the fluid illuminates the eerie room. Suddenly, his eyes snap open and the glass of the tank breaks, green fluid drips down from him as he emerges from the tank.

He gasps for air, trying to make sense of his surroundings. His head is throbbing, memories flashing before his eyes in fragments. He stumbles forward, his muscles weak and unsteady from his time in the tank. Looking around, he sees blinking monitors and whirring machines, clearly the source of the subdued humming in the room.

Then an alarm rings, red lights start flashing, the sound of the alarm blaring through the room. Panicked, he tries to steady himself, but his legs give out. Through the fog in his mind, he hears muffled voices and rushing footsteps approaching.

Fear grips him as he struggles to regain his bearings. The room is getting hazy, his vision blurring at the edges. With a final desperate attempt, he whispers to himself, "What have they done to me?" Then he loses control.

The footsteps draw closer, growing louder and more urgent. The door to the lab bursts open, revealing a group of scientists in lab coats rushing towards him. One of them calls out, "Subject 00-X has escaped, contain him!"

The scientists quickly move to restrain him, but he fights back with newfound strength, his body moving almost instinctively. With an impressive agility, he dodges their grasp and pushes past them, heading towards the exit. His mind races with questions, trying to piece together the fragmented memories flashing through his mind.

As he reaches the exit, the alarms blare louder, echoing through the corridors of the facility. The flashing red lights guide his path as he navigates through the maze of hallways, his heart pounding with adrenaline. He can feel his body changing, adapting to the situation in ways he could never have imagined.

Armored guards starts to surround him, guns pointed at him, his instincts kicking into overdrive, he ducks and weaves through the hail of gunfire, moving with an agility and grace that surprises even himself. As he runs, he searches his mind for any clue to his identity or the reason for his incarceration.

Out of the chaos, a fleeting memory surfaces, a face, a name, a feeling of loss and betrayal. Something deep within him stirs, a primal urge driving him to keep moving, to keep fighting for answers.

"Release subject 01-X!" One of the scientist shouts. "She can stop him!"

Suddenly, metal starts to fly, even the guns and shield of the armored guards flies directly towards 00-X. A flying figure emerges behind him, she raised her hand and metal bar starts to wraps around his feet.

"Don't be afraid." 01-X speaks up, she smile towards 00-X.

As 01-X's calming voice reaches him, 00-X feels a strange sense of familiarity wash over him. Her presence exudes a certain aura of reassurance amidst the chaos surrounding them.

Conflicting emotions swirl within him, confusion, fear, but also a flicker of hope. He stops in his tracks, the metal restraints wrapping around his feet preventing him from moving further. 01-X's eyes meet his, and for a brief moment, time seems to stand still.

"I... I don't know what's happening to me," 00-X manages to vocalize, his voice hesitant and filled with urgency.

01-X steps closer, her hand extending towards him with a gentleness that belies the chaos of the moment. "You've been experimented on, caught in a web of deception and manipulation. Trust me, I can help you find the truth," She says, her voice unwavering yet soothing.

As she speaks, a flood of memories, both real and fabricated races through 00-X's mind. He struggles to discern the truth from the lies, the memories from the false implants that cloud his past. But amidst the haze, he finds a glimmer of trust in 01-X's words, in her compassionate gaze that seems to see beyond the chaos that surrounds them.

With a deep breath, 00-X nods slowly. "I want to know the truth. I want to understand who I am," He admits, his voice steadier now, a newfound resolve sparking within him.

01-X nods, a faint smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "We'll uncover the truth together, piece by piece. But first, we need to get out of here," She says, her tone decisive as she gestures towards the exit.
