"A Proposition?"
Elliot responded with a curious look
"Yes, imagine if you could move, walk, and talk once again, would you do it?"
"Yes"
Elliot automatically responded with yes, it was his dream to move again, he wanted to move again, wanted to feel the rush of the wind as he ran across his neighborhood. Most of all, he wanted to get up, and get a midnight snack when he felt hungry at night.
"What if we could make you have all these things again, and even more with that."
Elliots eyes began to brighten, he knew that if they could give him back his voice, they could most likely give him back his freedom. However, something in Elliot's mind clicked, why would they do this for him of all people, and, what was the catch.
"Why me? Why not someone else who needs this more?"
The man looked at Elliot and said
"Power is never given to the ones who need it, it never has and it never will, quite frankly if the details of this experiment did not have so many different factors going into play. You would have just been sent to a regular hospital, to carry on with your life. The reason you were chosen was because you fit all the requirements for this test."
"And those requirements being?"
"Your brain is different from most of the brains out there in the world, tell me Mr.Foin, what causes synesthesia?"
"Increased connections in the visual part of the brain?"
Elliot knew this because one of the kids in his class was a synisthete, and would not stop talking about how rare it was and how special it is.
"Yes, it causes them to see colors, and to hear colors, your brain has a higher connectivity than most brains. Although, not high enough to show any major changes. However, this will let your body accept the changes that we will do to you. This is why you were chosen for the experiment."
"What is this experiment's name?"
"What do people say is the gateway to the soul Mr.Foin?"
Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
"The eye?"
"Yes, and the iris is the protector of the eyes weakness, the pupil, shielding it from the rest of the eye. This is why we named the project, the iridis experiment, after iris in latin, signifying a guardian protecting the pupil from the rest of the world."
This confused Elliot, making him wonder what type of fanboy first came up with the name.
"What's the catch of this, surely this won't come for free."
"Nothing is free Mr.Foin, in return for your new body, you will be subjected into training regiments, and you will become an iris, a protector, of us, and the world around us."
"What about my family, do they know about this?"
"Your family believes your dead Mr.Foin, and I suspect you know how they reacted to this."
"I have to go to my family, show them i'm alive, or at least, say a last goodbye to them"
The man looked at Elliot, with a hit of an amused expression on his face, and he said lightheartedly to Elliot.
"A last goodbye Mr.Foin? Perhaps you would like to see how your family showed their last goodbye to you."
Elliot looked at him with a confused look on his face and said
"Ok?"
The next thing elliot knew, he was injected with a white serum by the man, and Elliot fell asleep.
---
Elliot jolted awake by a thud as his eyes burst open, he was currently in a van, moving through a rough terrain as the man sat next to elliot.
"Where are we?!"
"We are currently going to your final resting place, picked out by your father and your mother"
The car continued to move until it finally slowed down, from the front of the car, a man in dark glasses responded with an emotionless expression.
"We're here"
Elliot was then picked up by another man in glasses, although this one was completely bald, showing the sun, shining on his oily head. When Elliot was put down onto a wheelchair, he saw a patch dirt, standing out inside of the thick foresty area that he was currently in.
"This is your family's final goodbye to you Mr.Foin, when you were pronnounced dead, we were able to a replica of your body made for your parents. Hidden inside was a GPS marker, and here is where they decided to burry your body."
Elliot's mind began to race and scream in confusion as he saw his grave, it was not even a grave, just a patch of dirt in the middle of the woods. Elliot kept on thinking that they would not do this, but in reality, what was Elliot to them? He was nothing to them, he didn't even exist, he was just something they fed, and all he was was extra baggage to them. Not even his sister had left him anything, and he thought he could trust her, but in the end, he was just something to talk to. She could easily be talking to a stuffed bear for all she cared, the man leaned in next to Elliot and said.
"Now Mr.Foin, we have two options, we can either let you go back to your parents in a miracle, or, you can choose to have everything you lost come back to you in a fresh start. Please choose wisely as there is no going back once you have chosen your decision." Elliot almost could not hear him as he felt himself drowning in his own sorrows. Then an anger swept over him, and he had decided his choice. He opened his mouth and said.
"I have decided."
The man smiled and said
"Good."
