1.83 More Inn Rooms

There really wasn't much left to do for the second floor. The boss room had been completed early on and Veronica had even gone so far as to add challenges, even despite her doubts they'd be used. The reception, tavern, kitchen, cleaning closet, and even additional facilities like a gym and spa had even been built for the inn. Now, all that was left was to fill in the odd bits of space that were left over.

In order to do that, Veronica had to research two new room sizes: a 11-Units by 22-Units rectangular room and an 18-Units by 22-Units rectangular room. They would both be used for additional inn rooms, but they were meant to be even more of a budget purchase than the previous 18-Units by 18-Units two-person rooms were. Those had been priced at 75 DP per night, but these two new rooms would be priced at 60 DP and 100 DP to account for the size difference and the fact that four people would be able to use a single room.

Adventurers could challenge dungeons by themselves or even in huge parties with more than a dozen people. However, the most common group size tended to be four people. The logic was much the same as it was for video games in her old world. There would, generally, be two people who were the main damage dealers and then two support roles. It could follow the classic tank, healer, and two damage dealers with the latter being either magic or melee-based or the roles could be filled by those with more of a hybrid build.

Someone who knows alchemy and can make potions or a cleric who worships the Goddess of Healing could just as easily replace a healer, but many parties went without a healer altogether. The fact that adventurers made a habit of carrying around potions and basic first aid supplies wasn't just for show, after all.

Meanwhile, a tank was useful for buying time for ranged combat roles to do damage while preventing vulnerable parties from being targeted, but it wasn't like there weren't other ways combat could be approached. Basic [Monsters] didn't require much, if any, technique at all. One person could take on one or more [Monsters] without much difficulty, assuming they were fighting [Monster] of an appropriate difficulty for their level. It was really just the boss [Monsters] where most of the real strategy came into play. Still, if everyone in your party was capable of protecting themselves or you kept the vulnerable parties far enough away from the main combat, it was still possible to go without a tank.

Anyhow, none of that was really any of Veronica's business. She just had a habit of eavesdropping on adventurer's conversations when she wasn't busy in the kitchen. It wasn't like there was much else to do around her dungeon anyhow. Playing board games and card games got old real fast and there weren't books, television, or video games to keep her entertained. Training was always an option, but it wasn't exactly fun to do by herself and there was a limit to her effectiveness. That brought her back around to her current task of continuing to build up the dungeon.

The smallest of the new rooms had four small bedrooms only big enough to fit a bed and two end tables. It was a very cramped space and there wasn't even room for a proper kitchen once the dour bedrooms were added. Instead of the magic ice boxes, magic wood stoves, and counters that most rooms had, she had to settle for a single table, two benches, and a fireplace with a pile of firewood beside it. The adventurers would have to cook things the hard way, but it would still be better than having to camp out in the main dungeon or having to leave entirely.

If they didn't like it, then they shouldn't be trying to be such cheapskates in the first place. Even then, Veronica only bothered with adding two rooms of that size. They were placed along the same wall that the cleaning closet and public baths were with plenty of connecting hallways. It was just what fit in the space, so it wasn't like it was her choice to build them that small in the first place. There just wasn't any point of wasting the space when it could make her money is all.

As for the larger 18-Units by 22-Units rooms, she built six of those. They were set up between the larger inn rooms and miscellaneous hotel facilities like the gym and spa. Still, even if they were mostly space fillers, they were a lot more comfortably built. Each had four bedrooms with a bed and end tables, a single bathroom with no bath, and a small, but full kitchen setup. There was even a table with two benches to eat at alongside a bamboo mat and bamboo plants to decorate the hallway area. The area was still very much so cramped, but it would suffice and 100 DP a night was still a bargain compared to the 150 DP to get two rooms for a part of four.

Honestly, even though she hardly needed to save the dungeon points, Veronica felt much more satisfied building rooms like this than new ones. She could just take the furniture and slot it into place, which felt quite satisfying as she watched entire rooms being built in a matter of minutes instead of hours. There was no need to spend hours planning out the furniture designs and arguing with the system about whether or not something should be possible to research. A lot of the time it was her mana cap that was the problem while other times she would be told she lacked the knowledge to make something.

Most things could be made with a bit of creativity. When it came to the tavern recipes, she could swap one ingredient for another or use magic to replace the modern-day equivalent. Who needs carbonation when you have air magic? What did it matter if she didn't have romaine lettuce if she could use watercress on a burger instead? Still, it was quite exhausting to figure out what swaps to make and how to get the resources she couldn't take shortcuts with.

Honestly, more and more she was questioning whether she ever actually loved the idea of owning her own business or if she had simply wanted to inherit her parents' bed and breakfast for nostalgia reasons. The people in the town she had grown up had been people she could easily hold a conversation with and she had never felt like she had to do all of the work alone when she was helping her parents with their business. However, things were different here. She didn't feel particularly close to the adventurers and she had to make all of the decisions for her inn on her own. Much of the work also came down to doing the work by herself as well.

Some things still felt fun and worthwhile. It was nice to spend time playing games with Elora and Eldrin, talking and laughing while they enjoyed good food together. It was always rewarding to see her vision come together as an idea for a tavern menu or a challenge turned into something more tangible. However, the joy she felt was always short-lived. Maybe if Bo didn't keep coming around it would be different. Otherwise, maybe she just needed some actual friends, not employees, if only she could find someone worthwhile to make friends with.
