26: Clan

"He can also use magic" Yirgil continues.

"What, more than the three basics? At that age?"

"Yeah, seems he has the repertoire of the average graduate of the magic academy, though more focused on combat, according to the letter".

"Now are you quite done? Both of you should try to appeal the best you can to him, one by one. Yirgil, you can start" The man behind me suggests, still resting his hands on my shoulders.

"Okay then. As an apprentice of the association's own hunter, you will study under a hunter who is stronger than average. You will live in the association barracks along with any other apprentices. You will of course be fed and we will provide a modest salary, along with half the worth of whatever your cut would have been, had you been a full-fledged hunter. Our hunter have more downtime than the regular ones, so you will spend more time training and growing stronger than you would at other places."

Yirgil pauses and when it is clear he is done, Bosir starts up.

"As an apprentice of the clan, you will learn from many talented individuals. We like to think of ourselves as one big family. You won't get a salary, but we have the same 50% rule for apprentices, and since we do a lot more hunting than here at the association, it will probably turn into a bigger cut. You will also get more real-world experience, and if you want, I can make sure you meet the request requirement by one year, so that if you prove your character, you will become second tier after one year only"

Bosir then pauses, but as I was about to speak, he gets an idea "And girls! There are no female hunters at the association, but we got two!"

The man behind me chuckles "Are you counting Mynie? We both know that would be close to fraud on your behalf."

To which Bosir click his tongue.

"We also got girls, for what it is worth" Yirgil interjects. "Though we have no female hunters, plenty of the guild's non-hunter staff are girls. Caretakers, contacts etc."

"Now", the man behind me taps my shoulders, "What do you think, young man?"

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

To be honest, I am not too worried about training. Due to my gift I could train every night and still be fresh and ready to work the next day. The salary seems nice, but what I think should be most important is job experience, so...

"I'd like to apprentice under you, old man" I turn to Bosir and bow a little.

"Yes!", Bosir makes a fist pump and Yirgil make a slight grimace to indicate his frustration.

"I am just about to head home, let's introduce you to the family!"

He rougly take me and drags me along. "Ah wait" I say, but I am just roughly pulled regardless. We exit the association, leave the marketplace and go down various alleyways until we reach a house that is entirely made of wood and looks a little rundown, although it seems fairly large.

"I'm hooooome" Bosir shouts. It was probably necessary, for even though there are a lot of people in the same room we enter at, they are involved in what seems to be heavy discussion.

"Oh, welcome home boss" A tall, thin man, who is wearing an eyepatch and has a few scars say.

"Who's the runt?" A woman maybe thirty years old, with dark red, curly hair. she has very little clothes on, and the body she has is completely covered in scars.

"Right, let me introduce you! This our new apprentice, uhhhhh...." Bosir stares at me. Oh right, he never got my name, did he. "It's Yos"

"Yos, right, our promising new apprentice!" Bosir affirms.

"Does that mean I am graduating?" A young man with brown hair in what is almost an afro says.

"Ah, you're not quite ready, give it a year more at most" Bosir says.

"Ehm, can you introduce me too?" I ask, finding it annoying to not know the names.

"Right. Guys, introduce yourselves!"

The woman is first. She appears quite rowdy in everything she does. "My name's Mynie! I use the spear and have a gift! I'm also the vice-head of this place!"

"Right, I'm the boss", Bosir says even though the skinny blond man has already stated so.

"I'm Larn, Usually vanguard, occasionally marksman. Pleased to meet you." he says.

"Oh right, I forgot, nice to meet you!" The woman says, looking weirdly proud of herself.

"I am Asger, I will be your senior apprentice, nice to meet you" The afro guy says. It is weird to see an afro on a white guy. Now that I think about, I have seen nothing but white people, is it because there is no sun?

"Where's Bern?" Bosir asks.

"Who knows? Probably at the club again" Larn answers.

"Always wasting his money on useless stuff" Bosir grumbles.

"Well, and in addition to the guy missing, there's a team of five out on a contract right now, they'll be back within a week or so, so you can meet them then... Assuming we don't go out of town on a contract in the meantime."

"Well, a new apprentice call for a little celebration, don't you think?" Mynie suggests.

"Even though you already were drinking" Larn mocks her.

"Shut it, it's only a celebration when all of us join! Let's roll!" She says, running somewhere and coming back with a keg.

Come to think of it, I have never even tried alcohol before.
