Chapter 12: Cake

“You’re ok, nice and slow, nice and slow.” Iris was patting the recovering Lily on the back, who was slowly managing to compose herself after she choked on the on the food. Iris had also stored what remained of the food in her inventory to avoid Lily going for it the moment she could.

She did not know what caused the girl to react like that, her guess was it was either due to the quality being higher than she thought, or that was really the best thing Lily had ever eaten. Either way, it scared her a bit she could casually make something to that effect for only one point.

“I…I’m ok.” Lily said, swallowing down the last of her coughing fit.

Iris smiled, giving her one final pat on the back “Good, don’t scare me like that, ok? Slow down while eating.”

Lily nodded sheepishly “ok…” then suddenly looked up, sparkles in her eyes “But how did you do that anyways?! You said you created it right? How? Can you make more? Can you make more food? Can you?” Lily continued to fire off questions left and right, much of the same questions Iris had of herself, causing her to laugh nervously as she was taken aback by the sudden onslaught of questions.

“uh, uhm…” She paused, still unsure how to answer it but decided to try her best “Slow down, I told you I used creation points, remember? I can make anything, I think, if I have the points.”

“But how? And can you make something else? Different types of food?”

“I don’t know how, its just something I can do as the creation goddess.” Iris shrugged “And I don’t know, maybe? I don’t know of any other food.”

Lily clambered closer to Iris “But you can try right? If you can create anything try making something like cake, or steak, oh oh oh, or fish, my other mother told me a bunch of food and how good it was, can you try?”

Iris could see drool forming at the edges of Lily’s mouth, eating that Pemmican must have unlocked a hidden desire in the girl, just what had she been eating all this time…ah…rotting food. She really wished her knowledge wasn’t so scattered, the worst part was she had a growing and nagging feeling she was overlooking something, oh well.

“Well, I can try…”

Lily leaped towards her “oh oh oh try! Do cake! Other mother said it was a pastry with eggs!”

“….alright…” Iris sighed, taking a deep breath and focused. Deridingly, she was going to make the cake a quality lower, just to avoid Lily being unable to control herself and choking again.

“…”

“…”

“What is that?”

“…Cake?”

“…”

“…”

They both were in stunned silence staring at what could only be described as a green cube 1 meter in size that had appeared before them, an odd sight to be sure but one had to admit the shade of green was simply tantalizing.

Iris poked it, surprised at how hard it was, she then decided to appraise it.

<[%CAKE%] Quality C: It is [%CAKE%] Quality C>

“…it is cake.” Iris, with the cake in hand, turned and held it out for Lily, who recoiled back.

“something… tells me that is not cake…”

“How would you know? You’ve never seen one.”

“Neither have you!” Lily huffed “That thing doesn’t even look natural!”

“What are you talking about? I appraised it and it said it was cake!” Iris approached the girl, holding the square cake in her hand “Look, the shade of green is enticing, and I made it just for you soo…would hurt to try it, would it?”

“No! that thing is weird!” Lily backed away but was soon cornered by Iris.

“Come on, just a bite? I’m sure its fine.” She thrust the cake forward. “Just one bite?”

Lily shook her head “no! it feels weird! Get it away!” She then smacked it causing it to fly out of Iris’s hand.

“Hey! It can’t be th-“

““…””

The two of them turned to look where the cake had flown, it had hit a nearby tree and the moment it had contacted the bark the green cube expanded, consuming the tree then shrank rapidly and vanished, collapsing in on itself. All that remained of the cube and the tree was a perfectly cut out square shaped hole on the ground.

“Iris? What was that?”

Iris turned away and started walking in what she hoped to be the direction of the town.

“Iris!? What was that! That was not cake!” Lily skittered after her, yelling questions the whole way.

The two continued, now settled down and Lily firmly back on her place attached to Iris’s back. The two had put the incident with the cake? behind them, mainly because Iris refused to even acknowledge it, and focused on making progress escaping the forest. A day had gone and passed, Lily fed with another, lower quality pemmican, and they were now near the forest’s edge.

“Finally, that took forever.” Iris sighed, thankful they were now almost out “What do we do when we are out of the forest? Head to town?” she asked, looking back at Lily.

“Mmm..” Lily thought for a moment “I think other mother said there was a road, and we follow that and we will find a town.”

Iris nodded “Simple enough, better then walking in here.” She was starting to get sick of the scenery, as she had burned every tree, animal, and insect into her mind that she could find, her favorite so far being moths that were just as fluffy as Lily was and was looking forward to seeing something new.

“Hrm?’ Iris perked up, turning to her left.

Iris crooked her head to the side, following her gaze “What is it?”

“Theres someone there? Or coming towards us.” Indeed, she could see three figures approaching them from deeper into the forest, all bipedal with some form of clothing.

“People? Or monsters? We haven’t seen any monsters this whole time…and other mother told me this forest had a lot of them.”

Iris shrugged “There has been some, they just won’t get close, except that one when I was sleeping.” She shook her head “no, these are people.”

“You were attacked while sleeping?!” Lily panicked, pulling herself higher on her shoulders to better position herself while she inspected Iris’s body, looking for an injury.

“Shh, its fine, I threw it.” Iris patted the girl on the head, as the three figures entered the clearing.
