Despite all the challengers again refusing to surrender, the venture was going well so far. Tossing a point into [AGILITY] and [DEXTERITY], Rose followed after her party. She could now feel the buff emanate from her body as it washed over the area. It might have been a constant buff, but she now knew from the feel that it only affected those she wanted it to affect. Their good luck changed when they came upon a terrifying combo. Two tougher challengers were working together. They were still half a block away, but Rose could read their tags anyway.

Demon – [CAMBION] – [LEVEL 21]

Canine – [BLOODFANG DIREWOLF] – [LEVEL 20]

Martin’s orders came swiftly “Jasmine, your party will deal with the [CAMBION]. Rose, do you think Toby can make that thing submit?”

Rose glanced at the alpha to see if she could somehow understand his intent. He was [LEVEL 15] now and had evolved into a [ALPHA ICY BLOODFANG DIREWOLF] after all that fighting earlier, but would it be enough? His pack was now between levels eleven to thirteen and had also evolved to dire wolves as well, the icy trait had also spread through the rest of the pack. Maybe with his pack he could do it. “Maybe, we’re willing to give it a shot” she answered through the link.

Turning to her companion she pointed at the wolf they were headed for and said “Toby, make her heel.”

In an instant all the wolves bolted forward and shot ice spears even faster. Seeing the action, Jasmine’s party also made their move. By the time Jasmine had engaged the [CAMBION], the [BLOODFANG DIREWOLF] was already down. The three smaller wolves had pinned her legs and Toby’s jaws were clamped around her neck. The higher levelled wolf whined pathetically in submission before they all released her and Toby gave an affirmative lick on the nose. “Well, there was no need to worry about that” Martin muttered as their party turned towards the ongoing fight, where only three members were still trying to put the demon down.

“I tell you, I surrender!” the demon shouted in desperation. He had a thick, gravely accent, but it was still understandable.

“Listen to me, stand down!” Jasmine also shouted. She sounded like she was out of patience. Kaito just stood beside her with a grim expression.

“You can’t stop us from attacking challengers,” the middle-aged man that was taking the lead said, “It could kill people if we let it go, and besides that, it’ll be worth the experience.”

At the mans words Rose removed her [DILLIGENCE] buff from them. There was no one on the streets except for all the fighters making their way back home. And as they were the lead fighters on the way back, it couldn’t have killed anyone yet. They just wanted to slay it for levels.

“Stop it right now!” she also found herself yelling to get her point across.

They ignored her. The demon could probably kill the three on his own, but he had enough smarts to know that if he did that the rest would take him down. So, the stalemate continued, with the [CAMBION] getting weaker and weaker. “We have to help him” Rose said as she tried to look her party in the eye.

None of them met her gaze. It was Neil that answered. “We can’t attack our own Rose. Just let it be.”

She didn’t know why she was so furious, he was right after all. But it reminded her of the [MURDERER] that had killed a mother and child just for the fun of it. It made her blood boil. But what could she do? All three were higher levelled then her, and sending Toby would be like signing his death sentence. Sure, he could defeat them, but the aftermath would mean the end of the wolfpack. A lightbulb went off in Rose’s head. If they weren’t allowed to attack one of their own, then she would just have to make the demon one of their own. Reaching out her hand towards the demon, she focused on the ability.

[HEEL TO THE EXCEPTIONAL ONE]

This ability allows the user to automatically tame any beast or monster up to 25% above their own level. Variants can be exceptions.

She knew the automatic part was out of reach at her level, but maybe…

*DING*

[!WARNING!], this being is too high a level for this skill to automatically tame.

Activating this skill will alert the intended being.

Do you wish to proceed?

[Y/N]

She confirmed.

*DING*

For taming a higher levelled being 50% more powerful than you with little effort, Ability - [HEEL TO THE EXCEPTIONAL ONE] has upgraded to [HEEL TO THE REMARKABLE ONE].

This ability allows the user to automatically tame any beast or monster up to 50% above their own level. Variants can be exceptions.

She didn’t see Martin give a dark smile as he saw the new sub tag.

[TAMED]

“Alright everybody you heard them, we have to protect own. Stand down now or I will assign you three as criminals! As a [NOBLE] I have the authority to do that you know” Martin’s voice echoed across the intersection.

Finally, the three backed off, scowling at the missed experience. Right away the battered demon flew towards her and then knelt down on one knee. “I, Rashoul, swear to obey my new Mistress.”

“Um, sure” she replied awkwardly.

Then she sighed in realisation. “Another one to take of” she mumbled to herself.

“Alright, just follow us and try to help where you can” came the exhausted directive.

Taming seemed to use some sort of energy she possessed. And as ‘Rashoul’ had been so much higher levelled, she now felt completely drained. With the problem now solved, they all continued on their way home. With the higher levelled companions by their side, most of the challengers they came across surrendered straight away. The only real exceptions were the slimes and a few crazy hobgoblins. This annoyed the three zealous attackers on Jasmine’s team. A lot. Rose just grinned at them, probably fuelling the fire even more.

Upon entering Peacehome apartments there were quite a few more stares than usual. The captured challengers were once again sent to the maintenance room. It was beginning to get a little cramped in there. They needed to think of a new plan. Maybe they could integrate them and have them help the clan? That was a tomorrow problem. Rose could barely keep her eyes open as she trudged up the stairs. Toby was once more nudging her along. Finally reaching her apartment, Rose opened her door and patted the overeager Urgle on the head as he hugged her. “Welcome home Mistress” both her wards chanted.

She was about to reply when they both screamed. Loudly. Her tired brain did not need this kind of torture. “What’s wrong?”

They both pointed at Rashoul as he walked in behind her. “Oh yeah, we have some new housemates now. Rashoul, this is Oras and Urgle. Oras and Urgle, Rashoul. You three get along now, I don’t need any fighting under this roof.”

Oras just stared, while Urgle had extricated himself from the hug and hidden behind the couch. “Yes Mistress, will most definitely ‘get along’” Rashoul said in his gravely, accented voice while grinning like the cat that got the canary.
