The Ethereal Trials
Era of enlightenment

Era of enlightenment

Arthur had his hand over the table, but Weng looked at him as if he knew where this was going.

“What do you want?”

“Don’t think we’re done with yesterday’s conversation.”

Weng tried to ignore him and eat his food, but Arthur swung his fist into his face.

Arthur was shocked that he did not even try to move out of the way.

Weng was bleeding from his mouth. Everyone was seeing this situation unfold, kids and teenagers alike.

A priest came into the room and saw the boy’s face bleeding because of Arthur.

“I see you’ve caused trouble again.”

The priest sighed.

“Someone get me a mage.”

Arthur was taken by the priest for punishment, and a mage was healing Weng’s mouth, but he felt that strange chill from last night—something bad.

After healing, they all went to take classes.

They got to the classroom and greeted their teacher.

“Good morning, students. Today we are going to talk about magic.”

Students looked intrigued, except for Weng.

“Magic in this world is drawn from the Arcane Realm, a dimension of pure energy that exists parallel to the physical world. Those with the innate ability to harness this energy are known as mages. The Arcane Realm is divided into various elemental domains. Each mage has an affinity for one or more of these elements, though mastering multiple elements is rare and requires immense dedication.”

The teacher paused and then continued.

If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

“Mages use incantations, gestures, and focused concentration to manipulate arcane energy. They can cast spells ranging from elemental attacks to protective wards and illusions. However, tapping too deeply into the Arcane Realm comes with risks, as it can corrupt the mind and body of the user over time, leading to madness or even death.”

“There are 7 stages, which include Beginner, Expert, Master, Quasi-Saint, Saint, Emperor, and finally the Ethereal Stage.”

The teacher kept on going for the rest of the class. He thought about letting them learn about the other types of fighting style, so he continued.

“Settle down, class.”

He proceeds.

“There are two more that I need to explain. Martial arts and sword combat.”

“First, I will explain martial arts.”

“Martial arts in this world are not just about physical combat but also about discipline, agility, and control. Various martial schools exist, each with its own philosophy and techniques. These schools train individuals in unarmed combat, acrobatics, and evasion techniques. Masters of martial arts possess enhanced reflexes, strength, and endurance, allowing them to engage in intense battles with or without weapons.”

Weng looked a little intrigued, as he did not know a lot of martial arts. The teacher was not done yet.

“Martial artists incorporate elemental techniques into their combat styles, enhancing their strikes with elemental energy or using it defensively to deflect attacks. The most skilled practitioners can even channel magic through their martial arts, creating devastating combinations of physical and magical attacks.”

A student raised their hand.

“What about the royal family? It’s said that their martial arts are not from this world.”

“I was planning to go there.”

“You see, just like magic, martial arts have their own stages, which, of course, just like magic, there are seven.”

He began to number them.

“Beginner, Expert, Warrior, Master, Tempered Body, and Ethereal Body.”

“These are the seven styles, but the royal family is the only known people to have ever pass tempered body.”

Weng thought back on that auburn girl named Lily and wondered if she could do that as well.

“Anyway, let me go over sword combat.”

“Sword combat is an ancient tradition in this world, with countless styles and techniques passed down through generations. Warriors known as sword masters dedicate their lives to mastering the art of the blade. They train in precision strikes, defensive maneuvers, and the use of various sword types, from slender rapiers to massive claymores.”

“Of course you don’t actually see it that often since magic was discovered.”

He continued.

“Sword masters infuse their blades with arcane energy, enhancing their cutting power and granting them mystical properties. They can channel elemental energy through their swords, unleashing devastating elemental attacks with each swing. The most legendary sword masters are said to have forged bonds with sentient swords, granting them unparalleled skill and power in combat.”

“Those are the three most used combat styles since the era of enlightenment.”

After class ended, Weng went to this room to think about how much information was said.
