Part 34- The BOOM!

Part 34- The BOOM!

“AHHH….”

Once the scream echoed within the hive, the spirits within got into action. “Okay, the newcomer is here. We’re finally full again.

“What? What happened? Where am I/we?” the newcomer screamed. “Uh… I/we…I/we…I/we…?”

Ignoring the blurriness of the newcomer, a spirit shouted. “Welcome to the hive! We are the hive and you have just been lucky enough to be our newest resident. We are a group of spirits that are currently trapped within a crystal but not to worry; it has…”

As the spirit began his speech to calm the newcomer, the rest of the hive began their discussion/argument on what to do next. There were a lot of suggestions and as usual, no way to figure out what to do. So they start by agreeing on something.

“Okay, we are full again. I/we take it we are not going to make more werewolves?”

“Yeah, we made over 20 already. Add them to the six we already have, that’s over thirty. Should be more than enough for the wolfgirl, let’s do something else.”

“You sure?” another spirit asked. “The wolfgirl left with all the werewolves and Ratlings yesterday. Won’t they expect to see more werewolves when they returned?”

“Oh please,” a spirit replied. “If they do then we just do what we always do…we think of an excuse on the spot.”

Laughter reigned in the hive before one of the spirits asked, “So what now? Big Wolf, Rage Wolf, or…something wolf with Mana?”

“BORING!”

Several spirits shouted immediately. The rest of the hive laughed at the joke and they were about to get back into the argument when one of the spirits offered something new.

“Why don’t we use our elements?”

The suggestion caught the other spirits out. Then one of them responded. “You mean Fire Wolf, Earth Wolf…”

“No, no, no. I meant what if we combine our elements and use them on the wolves.”

The spirit in question gave its idea and as a hive, it was immediately received by the other spirits. The idea was intriguing to say the least so the hive did what it always did; they decided to try it out. During the discussion/argument afterwards, the rarely-used and much neglected Fire and Water Spirits stole a march on the rest of the hive by quickly agreeing to team-up.

The hive selected a wolf at random and gathered their energy. The rest of the hive moved aside and allowed the Fire and Water Spirits full control of the energy. They spilt the energy in half, and slowly poured it into the wolf.

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

The wolf felt something. It looked back and forth around the room, not in alarm, but not in comforts either. Then, the area around the wolf became to change. The air became hotter before the fur on the wolf stood up and hot air filled the area around the wolf.

The other wolves around it ran off, yipping in surprise. The steaming wolf looked around in shock as the air around it cools. As the air was cooling off, the wolf looked more and more pleased before it released hot air around it again. The air around the wolf changed to steam and this time, the wolf shook its body and water flew. There’s no doubt about it now; the wolf was enjoying itself.

“The Naming Committee will from now on call…”

“Wait, wait, wait; let us guess, you are going to call it ‘Steam Wolf’ right?”

The rest of the spirits within the hive laughed and the Naming Committee spirit replied. “It made sense right? It released steam so “The Steamed Wolf”!”

“Another useless power,” a spirit said. “Though it sure look fun!”

“Yeah, let’s do another one!”

So the hive selected another wolf at random and gathered their energy. Once again, the rest of the hive moved aside and allowed the Fire and Water Spirits full control of the energy. The spirits spilt the energy in half and poured it into the wolf. The air around the wolf became hotter and just as the hive was expecting the steam to be released…BOOM!

The wolf exploded! The rest of the wolves scattered and the spirits within the hive looked on in shock. That was unexpected.

“Uh…what happened? Fire and Water Spirits, explain this please.”

“No idea!” A Fire Spirit said immediately. “We did everything exactly like we did the first time.”

“Obviously not because…well, look at that wolf. There’s not even enough parts of it left to call it a corpse!”

“Everything was the same,” one of the Water spirits insisted. “Except we poured in the energy quicker this time, everything was…!”

The spirit was silenced and all the spirits within the hive realized something they never knew before. Not only could they affect creatures with the energy they poured into them, the hive could also change the effects by changing how fast they poured in the energy. It was something new.

“Okay, so that’s what happened.” One of the spirits said. “Let’s be careful in the future on how fast we do the change.”

This was one of those rare moments when everyone in the hive agreed on something. Then one of the spirits said something that would change the world. “Well, at least this way the wolf was not a total loss.”

“What? Why you said that?”

“At least we now know how to create a big explosion.” The spirit said. “Maybe we could store this energy into an item or something and make it go BOOM!”

“Why would we want to do something like that?”

“Cause it’s fun!” the spirit replied. “Look at the parts of the wolf all over the room! Look at the blood! Look at the pieces of flesh! Look at…”

“Okay, okay!” Several spirits stopped the spirit right there. “We get it. No need for you to be even more disturbing with further explanations.”

“Wimps!” The spirit said. “Imagine if we could do that to the next humans that came to the tunnels.”

“You mean something like an item that would explode when someone throws it?” another spirit asked.

“Or if someone step on it, or if someone goes near it, or…well, whatever we can think of. We can give the items to the Ratlings since they need all the help they can get.”

“You guys still remember the sheer amount of lies their leader told the werewolves?”

The spirits within the hive laughed. Most of them were still amazed by how heroic the Ratlings said they were when all the Ratling did was run away from the humans.

“That’s not a bad idea actually. What should we call this item?”

“The Naming Committee wonders why we should only ourselves to only one name. Why not call items that is thrown…’bombs’, and items that explode when stepped on…’mines’?”

“That’s stupid! Why would we do that?”

“Well, the items have two different uses right? Two names are better as the Werewolves and Ratlings can easily tell what the items are for based on their names.”

“Hang on everyone,” a spirit said. “Let’s worry about the name after making the items. For now, let’s finish up with the remaining wolves.”

“Yeah,” another spirit agreed. “The quicker we finish with them, the faster we can get to the items. Who is next?”
