The Dungeon Hive
Part 18- The Wolfgirl

Part 18- The Wolfgirl

After the hive first made the wolfmen, the hive left them alone. The wolfmen did whatever they wanted and the hive left them to it. The hive had intended to do the same with the wolfgirl. It intended to let her do whatever she wanted. It’s a plan that worked well for the wolfmen right? Unfortunately for the hive, what the wolfgirl wanted was to do was…nothing!

The wolfgirl was lost after her transformation, wandering around the tunnels like a ghost. What was worse for the hive was the fact the wolfgirl never leaves the tunnels! She stayed inside the tunnels and about the only time she left was to collect sticks of wood which she created fire with in the night. The fire spirits in the hive loved her for the nightly fire but for the rest of the hive; the fire making was a strange activity. After all, the wolfmen never did it!

The rest of the time, all the wolfgirl did was to take care of the creatures called horses that had carried the humans to the tunnels. For some reason, the horses never left and had been milling near the entrance of the cave. The wolfgirl had been caring for them as best she could but even then, she seems to be afraid to go too far from the cave. To the hive, she seemed to be in pain when she went outside. At times, the wolfgirl would even put her hands on her ears or covered her nose as if she was trying to shut out her smell and hearing. The hive just didn't understand any of it.

The wolfgirl even took up residence in one of the small rooms on the third floor. Luckily for the wolfgirl, one of the wolfmen usually throw some food into the room for her so she don’t get hungry but even the hive knows this cannot continue. Outside that small time when they come into contact, the wolfgirl was staying away from the wolfmen and the wolfmen did the same. On the wolfmen’s part, it looked to the hive that they found the wolfgirl to be strange. The hive at least understood this but didn’t understand why that should be a problem. For the hive, everything in the world was new and strange so what’s one more? After several days of this, the hive had enough.

“Okay, we need to change this?” one of the spirit said.

“You mean the relationship between the wolfgirl and the wolfmen?” another spirit replied. “Yeah, they don’t seem to like each other for some reason.”

“It’s not ideal…” a spirit said. “But why should we? Let the wolves sort it out themselves.”

“But we created them!” the first spirit argued. “We should make sure they get along.”

“Why should we? It’s not our problem.” The spirit argued back.

“That’s wrong,” a spirit said. “We said we are their creators. That makes them our problem.”

“…it’ll could be very troublesome.”

“So?” the spirit asked. “Surviving is troublesome, but we still do it right? Just because it’s troublesome doesn’t mean they’re not our problem.”

“Sigh…okay, you’re right.” The spirit conceded. “How are we going to do this?”

“…no idea…how about we just talk to her?”

“Stupid idea!” the spirit immediately said. “Anyone else got something better?”

“…”

“…”

“…”

“Sigh…fine.” The defeated spirit said. “Let’s try talking to her.”

Finally in agreement, the hive gathered the energy necessary and spoke.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Why are you alone?*

The wolfgirl looked around in shock. Then she realized who was speaking in her mind. The Creator, her savior, was speaking to her in her mind. The wolfgirl was unnerved. The night has finally come and the wolfgirl had been looking forward to the peace and quiet. However, her Creator had asked her a question. The wolfgirl knew she had to answer but she did not want to disrespect the Creator. Hoping the custom was the same here as in the human city, the wolfgirl got on her knees and clasped her hands together.

“Great Creator,” she said. “How may this useless slave served you?”

*Why are you alone? Why do you not get together with the others?*

The voice in her mind was deep but also unsure. It was as if It was speaking for the first time. The wolfgirl quickly void her mind of such thoughts. She had seen slaves killed for less. “Great Creator,” she answered. “They…I am different from them. They are wolves, I…I look different from them.”

*…Then change*

“Change?” the wolfgirl asked in surprise. “Great Creator, how do you mean?”

*Change…change to look like the rest*

The wolfgirl blinked her eyes in shock. It was a bad habit she could never got rid of, no matter how many beatings her mistress had inflicted on her. “How…how do I do that?”

*…Instinct. Gather your energy and just change*

“Just…change?” Whatever the wolfgirl was expecting, that wasn’t it. Her Creator was telling her to let her instinct takes over and just…let it happen? Was it really that simple? Her mind told her it can’t be but…this was an order from her creator and a slave always obey.

It was true that the wolfgirl had sensed a power within her ever since she woke up but she thought it was just a trick in her mind. Her Creator was telling her otherwise. The wolfgirl drew her hands close to her chest and thought of the power. With no idea what to do, she did as she was ordered. She relaxed and tried to let her instinct takes over.

The effect was almost immediate. Once she let her mind and body relaxed, the wolfgirl felt the power growing. She felt it growing bigger, to every part of her body, and then the pain began. The wolfgirl pressed her hands to the ground and she heard a scream within the tunnels. It took a second for her to realize the scream belongs to her. The power was pushing out of her body and the wolfgirl, who was on her hands and knees, saw the first movement within her hands. She lifted her hands off the ground and stared as the bones within…moved.

The bones were growing and the wolfgirl stared in astonishment her fingers grew longer. Her fingernails became claws. Then she saw the fur on her hands. They had grew from her skin and the wolfgirl felt her body changing. She stood up and noticed she had grown taller. The pain she had felt at first was gone, as if once started, it was no longer necessary. The wolfgirl was now unsurprised when her face began to change as well. She saw her face growing longer and felt her teeth growing as well. Without a mirror or a bowl of water, she wasn’t sure but she believed she had changed into one of the wolfmen. It was as the Creator said. The power was always in her, she just had to allow her instinct to take over.

Then she noticed the other wolfmen. They were staying away from the fire as usual but since her change, the wolfgirl could see in the dark so she could clearly see the faces of the wolfmen even in the dark tunnels. They had heard her scream and had come to investigate. They looked surprised as she was. Then the wolfman who had been feeding her walked forward. The wolfgirl could see he was uncomfortable to be near the fire but curiosity had won out.

The wolfgirl stayed still as the wolfman began sniffing her head. His smell assaulted her. Since the change, the wolfgirl knew her sense of smell was now on a level beyond that of a human. It had been tough for the past few days as countless smells overwhelmed her but the wolfgirl now find herself enjoying the…”scent” of the wolfman. She closed her eyes and let her instinct guide her.

The two smelt each other’s head, then the shoulder, then they went down to each other’s body. The wolfgirl dropped to her knees again and felt the wolfman doing the same. They hugged and sniffed each other with an intensity that shocked the wolfgirl. She had never felt this way before as a human, but now it felt so natural.

The wolfgirl then caught another scent. Several new scents came towards her and the wolfgirl knew the other wolfmen were now around her. As they grouped together, the wolfgirl know without a doubt she was no longer human. She was now something else, something wonderful, and in her heart, she vowed to do all she could to thank the Creator for It’s gift.

For now and forever, the wolfgirl would belong to the Creator.
