Chapter 8 the second generation begins

Chapter 8 the second generation begins

“It is time for the second generation to begin, first we look at what has happened to New Albion after the explosion in the lab. It shocked the entire community, Annabel, who was a hermit turned scientist for good had died. Not only that, other scientists died as well. No one ever found out what or who caused the explosion.”

“As for Jacob, he stopped making deliveries, he turned into himself and never left his house, he took care of Fay and Edgar, but he was overwhelmed with grief.”

“When Edgar turned into a young adult, he went on dates with Fay, when he turned nineteen, he asked her to marry her. Which she happily accepted since she loved him back, but everything is not as great as they had expected. Jacob soon died after learning of this, a disease took his life, or grief, perhaps both.”

“Edgar had not chosen a path in his life, no, he tried many things, he tried making new technology for New Albion like his mom did. He quickly stopped, he tried following in his dad’s footsteps, he got bored. Many careers were tossed aside as he had money enough to not even work a day in his life, much to Fay’s annoyance.”

“What happened to the rest of New Albion? Since many things have happened since Edgar grew older, the man without a drive, the red haired Dwarf, indeed had a son. His son always wanted to run the Mafia, but the mob boss always said no to his son, you are not ready.”

“Well, I can assure you, his son did not take that news well because when he turned 31, he stabbed his father in the back, not figuratively, no, he took a sword and jammed it into his heart. As his father laid there on the ground, dying, the dwarf spoke one last sentence as his son cried, I have never been more proud of you.”

“There are heists all over New Albion, they pulled off the most daring heists, they robbed the banks, rich people. They did not care much, they just robbed people. No one could catch whoever was behind these heinous crimes.”

“In fact, these heists were performed by two eighteen year old girls, yeah, they were dressed in black. Real cat burglars, they even had pets, one was named Simon, an albatross. The other one was a brilliant mouse named Sam.”

“The twilight fog still passed through town occasionally, this will be important later on, but for now, we are going to the botanist’s lodge. They have been breeding plants, trying to make one, flower. Well, what is flowering for a plant, right? But this kind of flowering means transcending the human existence that binds you.”

“You are asking me why a plant can transcend human existence? That is not relevant, all that matters is that they even managed to succeed. They made a plant that was able to communicate by opening and closing its petals. It went to find enlightenment, to flower as I said. This plant went into a deep meditative trance and has not made a move since. Who knows what is going on inside its mind?”

“As you can see, plenty of new things are going on in New Albion, you wonder, how is this second generation going to alter the course of New Albion’s events? Why don’t we take a closer look at Fay, who is helping to repair a carriage today? A man named Silof has opened a new business and is slowly making an emporium as he upgrades the carriages and has a clear sight on what he wants to achieve.”

Fay, who has grown into a beautiful young woman, wearing her casual clothes and a long skirt, made her way over to Silof’s store. She had a fight with Edgar this morning about why he still has not chosen a path. It was one fight after the other. He only complains and whines about his life. It was kind of cute when he was younger, but he is a man now.

Fay let out a deep sigh as she remembered the task at hand, the ice cream vendor’s carriage had broken down, and she promised to check with Silof if he can arrange a new ice cream carriage for him. Fay had grown her own garden and made potions with the ingredients, but she would do anything to get out of Edgar’s hair for a while.

She found the garage with large open doors, people were working inside on carriages, tools were scattered everywhere. “Excuse me, I am searching for a man named Silof.”

A man with black sleek hair and in a suit walked over to her, “Hello there, why does a young lady, gorgeous like you come to me for? Are you in need of a carriage perhaps? I have just started my business, as you can see, my men are working hard.” He took her hand and gave a kiss on the back of it. “Now, tell me, what your name is, it is only fair since you already know mine.”

Fay stammered a bit, “My name is Fay, I am here to help a friend. The ice cream carriage, I was wondering if you could repair his carriage, change the interior a bit to make sure it is up to date. I have the money for you.”

Silof smiled, “You know what, a lovely lady like you, how about we call this a favor, and you get the carriage upgrades for free? Just ask him to come by, you sure look, amazing, I have to say, I am quite shocked by it.”

Fay blushed, “Really? Well, I like the flattery, the compliments, I yearn for them but my husband to be never gives them to me. All he does is whine, whine, and whine some more about what he should do with his life. If he is not whining, he is complaining about his dad, who also took care of me abandoning him. Or his mom that died too.”

“Wait, are you talking about Edgar, one of the richest people in New Albion? Well, if he would invest it or do something with his money that is.”

Fay sighed deeply, “I don’t care for money, I crave a connection with another person, I seem to find one with you. I am sorry, I should not talk like this, I am about to be married.” She wanted to walk away.

Silof hesitated for a moment, “Wait.”

She turned around, “Yes?”

“What if, you leave him, and we go on a date? To see where it takes us, if it goes nowhere, you are at least free to pursue whoever you want, a woman like you deserves to be happy.”

Fay sighed deeply, “He is my childhood sweetheart, leaving him sounds wrong, but you are flattering. Silof, I need to think about your offer. He has no drive, but he does love me in his own way, I think.”

“The matter that you add, I think, says enough about your feelings, your struggles, your need to be validated by him, did you ever bring this up with him?”

“Yes, and I am trying to stick with him, but it is always about him and never about me. Silof, I will let you know whether that date is a thing or not. I won’t hurt Edgar or do anything if I am still with him, but if things end, I will look you up.”

Silof smiled charmingly at her, “I will be awaiting your answer.”

Fay nodded and wandered off, deep in thought. What to do now? Give Silof a chance? Marry Edgar? If only Edgar had a drive, there is a kind man buried there, but I can’t get him out. Maybe, taking Silof’s offer is not that bad after all. Edgar and I have dinner tonight, I will make my decision before that.

“There we have it, folks, Fay is doubting her love for Edgar after meeting this charming man. Despite all of that, she is staying true and honest to him, but can you blame her for her doubts? A man who does not validate you, a man who only cares about himself and has lost sight of everything. He lost his mom, his dad, and he is about to lose more if he does not make a drastic change.”

“This, my audience, is where the second generation truly begins, we have new events unfolding in New Albion, new faces, new places, and old faces that struggle with the hardship that is called life. Where will Fay’s actions bring us? It might be best to show you, how this dinner is going to pan out, what will Fay decide?”

“Will Edgar just lay down and accept what she has to say? Or will he fight for her love? And what if he fights for her love, what will he do? Will Silof end up breaking them apart? There are many questions that lurk within in the second generation, whereas Annabel and Jacob tried to guide Edgar into the right direction, they never got the chance to finish their job.”
