The Devourer
Chapter 8:Crafting

Chapter 8:Crafting

I stand close to the tree and pass my hand over its metallic surface in awe. I never expected that the first god I would meet would be a tree.

In my mind there was a picture of an epic battle between me and some God, going head to head with incredible powers, and destruction would be all over the place.

Although It was an anti-climatic encounter but was not disappointing by any means because the tree was amazing in many ways.

Putting my amazement to the side, Now that I understood the whole picture, it was time to check the things I ignored. First I go to the [Quest] option in the menu.

[Quest]

Main Quest:

Back

The tree is definitely a god since I have made progress in the main quest.

Then I notice that the side quest had gone to the third phase, meaning I completed the second phase and got a reward. But I have no idea what that reward could be.

‘ why did I not read the notifications’ I think with a frustrated look on my face because I don't know any way to read the notification again. Since there was nothing I could do, I move on to [Status] to check the class I got.

Class: [Devourer]

You can eat and drink as much as you want without getting full.

When devour is used on a target for the very first time, devouring a skill is confirmed.

(All Special or Unique Skills will be obtained with 100% certainty if possessed by the target)

“This is a good support class for my devourer skill!” I say in an excited voice.

Then I wonder if I got this class because I kept on using the [Devourer] and ate a lot. Does this mean I can get a boxer class if I keep boxing every day?

Since classes are also decided by observing my knowledge, it might very well be possible but I need to further test this process. I should be able to get some interesting classes through this process if it works because that's how a class is given according to the World’s Will.

Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

Next, I go to the menu and press the [Craft] option. As I did that thought crossed my mind ‘ is this the side quest’s reward?’

That was the only reason I could think of why I got a skill like [Craft].

‘hmmm’ feeling a little curious, I use appraisal on [craft].

[Craft]

This is an option to make different stuff using materials all around you. The more you craft, the better the skill will get providing more recipes. Some initial recipes are already provided to get started crafting.

(it is possible to create original recipes)

(different kinds of materials can be used to create the same stuff. The result will be different depending on the materials used)

(crafting tools are required)

(crafting requires manual work )

The details of the skill did pop up and it seemed quite a useful skill but I was not happy to read the last part. I sigh and open the recipes to check what I have to work with.

[Recipes]

Tools: Needle(0), Thread(0), Hammer(0), Knife(0), Axe(0), Nails(0)

Simple Shirt, Simple Pants, Simple Shoes, Short Sword, Bow, Spear, Arrow, Thread

There were some pretty simple recipes being offered.

I had no way to get a thread or make it, but the rest of the things I could make with [Metal Handling]. I could use obsidian to make some pretty cool stuff and since the tree could heal itself no matter how much I break it, I have an unlimited supply of premium metal.

To get things started I need to gather all the stuff around me that I can use to craft things. But first and foremost, I need to cover myself. To craft something wearable I need tools and for that reason, I jump and try to land on a branch of the obsidian tree to gather some branches. The thing I didn’t expect was that even when I had not used much strength, I would jump at least 8 meters high. I was a little surprised but easily composed myself and calmly grabbed a branch near me to swing my way onto another close one. My reflexes had gotten faster and I was not used to my new strength.‘ I need to control my strength’ thinking that I start going from branch to branch using [Metal Handling] to break the branches and put them in my inventory. When I was done, I jump off a branch that was three meters high and landed on the ground. While I was gathering the branches, metal handling had leveled up.

[Metal Handling]

Change the metal's shape and size or combine different metals at your will.

Using mana, you can now change the composition of metals. You can make them as soft as cotton or as stretchy as rubber.

(The metal may keep some of its original properties or might lose all of them)

Can’t increase the base metal amount.

Reading the description, I think, ' If I remember correctly, cotton was used to make thread right’. And wanting to test the idea I had just gotten, I take a 1.5-meter obsidian branch and start changing its composition to become as soft as cotton. When I was done it had indeed become soft and lost all its hard and sharp feeling.

[Recipe Created]

Black Cotton

Since there was no mention of obsidian in its name, it means none of the obsidian properties were kept. Ignoring that unlucky event, I chose to create a thread from the recipes and my body starts to move on its own. It was like I was watching something being done with my body while I had zero control. My body, using metal handling, started to spin the soft black cotton. It kept spinning the cotton until it was closely packed together and started to look like tread.

[Recipe Created]

Black Thread

Taking that thread I start to look here and there on the ground until I finally find my previous torn clothes. There was no way that those would cover my body but for now, I needed something to at least cover my bottom half. I use a little bit of obsidian from my inventory and create a needle to use for sewing the clothes back. But the most I cloud get from them would be pants or a shirt. So I go to recipes and select to create simple pants. I went to auto mode and started the pants-making process. After a while, my pants were made but no new recipe was created. Maybe using a black thread is not considered creating something new since they were normal pants overall. The pants on the other hand were amazing. They were neither too tight nor too loose.

I was finally comfortable covering my bottom, so I went to gather the rest of the materials to craft from. After half an hour, I had all the materials from my surrounding in the inventory.

“Now let's start crafting,” I say in excitement.
