Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter 1: Prologue

I feel my body losing all its warmth.

Slowly all the blood is leaving me and it's getting dark.

I use all my strength to open my eyes and keep breathing but the broken ribs, piercing my lungs, prevent me from doing that.

I am dying and there is no saving me, that much I know.

Still, I am glad it's me who is dying and not her.

As I keep my eyes on her, all I feel is regret.

Regret that I won’t see her anymore.

Regret that I won’t hold her anymore.

Regret that the only one I consider close to my heart will be alone after I am gone.

As I am lost in my thoughts, I notice her standing close to me.

I take a last look at her face and close my eyes.

Then there is nothing.

There is no meeting god, no getting judged for your good or bad deeds, and no going to heaven or hell.

It is just me floating in darkness, where I'll probably stay forever or until I lose my senses and feel nothing.

Yes, that is how it was supposed to be……

2 hours before the accident

I open my eyes and see the same old ceiling that I see every day.

As I get out of my bed, I feel something soft on my leg.

I see what it is and feel like getting up was worth it.

I pick her up and give her a light hug.

“Good Morning Selena,” I said with a big smile on my face.

Selena was my cat.

She was a stray I picked up during one of my night strolls.

Now that I think about it again, it was quite a random meeting.

...

Like any other day, it was my usual night stroll when I notice a cat sitting on a tree branch.

I would have completely missed it if not for its yellowish-golden feline eyes glowing in the dark that were looking at me because the cat was black as the night itself.

The cat kept staring at me with those unusually beautiful eyes and I start moving towards the tree thinking that it might be stuck and needed help getting down.

I stand under the branch where the cat was sitting and did what any person who does not own a cat but has seen enough cat videos to know what you should do.

With a small smile, I say “psst psst ”.

There was no response but I could see the confusion in the cat’s eyes. It might have been my imagination but still, I felt kind of embarrassed for trying that out and left as soon as possible.

As I got to my apartment and was about to close my door, I see those yellowish-golden eyes on me again. The cat was outside my door, looking at me with the same curious gaze as before.

I close the door and after waiting for some time, I open it again to see the cat still there looking at me. Then, for some random reason, I asked it “Would you like to come in?”.

And as if it understood me, it came into my house.

...

Since then a year has passed and Selena is still with me.

To this day I still think that taking in Selena was the best thing that had ever happened to me. My same old lonely life got fun and interesting because of her.

After playing with her for a bit I went to get ready for work. It was not that big of a job but still, it paid well.

I was a tester for new software and games. Usually, a tester would not get paid much but since I was very good and efficient at my job, they paid me quite a bit.

I wear my casual clothes and start to make breakfast for both of us. After eating and saying goodbye I was about to leave in a hurry when I hear a “meow”.

Selena was there pointing at my ID_card with her paw.

“Oh shoot I almost forgot my ID again,” I said with an embarrassed smile.

“Thank you, Selena, as always,” I say and give a kiss on her forehead.

Selena was smart, super smart.

Whenever I talked to her she would listen to me as she understood everything. Sometimes when I was reading web novels, she would sit with me and look at them as if she could read the novels.

There were a lot of times, where if not for her I would have had I earful from my boss.

I leave the apartment in a hurry as today was going to be a busy day.

Today I would be testing a new game that was supposed to come out soon. I was supposed to do what I do best and check if any serious bugs would affect gameplay.

I had some data and codes that I took home to formulate some tests that could identify the bug if there were any. I had made a clear list of the things that needed testing and that would save me a lot of time.

As I was taking out my ID to scan it for entry, I noticed that the flash drive that had the testing data was missing.

Thinking of all the work that I would have to do from scratch and the extra time that I would have to put in, made my head hurt.

Feeling down I was going to enter the building when a black cat across the street caught my eye.

Knowing who it was and why she was coming, my mood did a 180 and my headache was gone.

Selena was a smart cat so she waited for the signal to turn green and started walking with the rest of the people crossing the road.

Everyone was crossing causally when I notice a truck coming toward the crowd. The truck was speeding and looked like it had no intentions of stopping.

“Get out of the way!!!” someone yelled in panic.

When I took a closer look I saw the driver was asleep.

My heart dropped and I ran toward Selena while yelling at the top of my lungs for her to run back.

As she was going back, someone from the crowd hit her while running in panic. Selena fell and looked like she couldn't move.

There was a chance that the truck might pass over her but since it was moving in a random zig-zag way, I could not leave her life to chance.

As I was running toward her, my mind was filled with a single thing and that was to save her.

When I got near her, I had just about enough time to pick her up and throw her toward a lady that was near enough to catch Selena.

Then the truck hit me with its full momentum.

The Present

I opened my eyes to see that I was in a forest. There were big trees that made it difficult for the sunlight to reach the ground.

There was some kind of chirping but it could not have been from birds because it was too loud.

I get up and notice that I had no clothes on. I cover my front and start looking left and right in panic.

As I was doing this, out of nowhere a screen pops up in front of my face. I was surprised and fell on my butt.

Trying to calm my heart I read the message on the screen.

[Welcome to my World]

[You can do anything with my powers on the condition that you also do the Main Quest]

“What the F*ck,” I said in complete disbelief.
