Chapter 39.5: Aftermath

Shin-kun stood in a daze as he stared at the view in front of him….he couldn’t tell his this was a dream or reality.

Although it was night, the streets of Shibuya were bright as though it were daytime. It wasn’t street lighting which lit up the entire square but the colourful street signs and gigantic TV screens. All the buildings in the vicinity were covered in neon bulb signboards and large TV screens running adverts etc.

“Nnn~~…This isn’t a festival?” Shin asked the shadowy blue standing next to him. “Or a dream?”

However, the Shadow nodded sided ways, it denied the question for the umpteenth time with a sigh.

Shin quietly stared at the Shibuya square. For Shin, who came from a medieval era, this site only resembled something akin to a festival. Colourful lights, throngs of people flocking together, laughter and noise…this was all too surreal. How far have humans advanced?

The answer lay before in front of Shin; ‘magical light tools’ that lit the entire night sky, streets jam packed with people, and all sorts of ‘magical gadgets’ on display in shops… the world in front of him was nothing like the world he knew of. Shin understood that humans had advanced technologically given that he had been living in the human realm for the last six years. However, Shin was a baby who spent of his time sleeping for the first two years. After that, he lived in a protected environment. Furthermore, when Shin was finally able to walk his family moved to a countryside town. Compared to the quiet rustic countryside town, the city was a sci-fi haven. Shin followed the news but never watched it. He only had a vague idea of human capability.

It also wasn’t the case that Shin hadn’t been to any city before. Shin had previously visited a smaller city with his Otosan to purchase groceries etc. However, the view from a roof top was very different from the view from a street. As the streets were filled to the brim with people there wasn’t enough space to even stand idly on the streets. So Shin and Shadowy blur watched Shibuya square from the roof top of a building. From the roof top, Shin could truly see that the city sprawled over acres and acres of land. Again, this was very different from the world he knew and lived in. As Maou-sama, Shin had visited several cities in the nether realm. However, none could compare to the size of this city called Tokyo.

Shin’s brain was trying to process the information.  With great difficulty words finally flowed into his mouth, “So you are telling me, that humans have built hundreds of such cities?”

“Thousands…” The shadowy blur replied.

Shin was about to ask another question when his voice choked as he noticed in the distance – “Oka-san? Oto-san?”

Oka-san was running towards the building Shin stood on – she was crying and Oto-san chased behind her. Emotions of pain and guilt stirred inside Shin's heart as he watched Oka-san cry and push past the crowded street.

‘Why are they here?’ Shin wondered.
