Chapter 2: Life as a baby

Chapter 2: Life as a baby

Part 1

I have not been thrown into a river – it seems as though, not only are baskets used by humans to throw babies into rivers but are also used for transporting babies around. I am unsure what carriage we rode to reach the new castle but it was a fairly comfortable ride – for most of it I slept.

Right, currently my situation is as such. There are two young human children, with silky smooth straight black hair, peering into the basket in which I lie. You can tell they are children given how round and immature their faces are. The two are of different ages. I think the younger humans are, the rounder the faces are.

“Oto-san, what is this?”

“This is your baby brother! “

“No way!!” The elder child exclaims as he hurriedly shifts his gaze from the baby to the father.

His exclamation was greeted with a fist on the head.

“Ouch!!!” He clenched his teeth in pain as he began rubbing his head.

“Rude!” His father reprimands him.

“I mean it’s just so surprising…..” The young boy explains. “And he is so tiny….”

“Ni-san….thi…is…baby?” The younger one fumbled with his words, he stood on his toes to peer into the baby carriage cot while he cutely pointed out to the baby in the cot.

“Right! Tomo, this young baby is our brother!” The elder one explained.

“No way!!” The younger child exclaimed excitedly as he completed a poor imitation of his brother.

He too was greeted with a fist on his head – though it was significantly lighter in force.

“Oye! Now don’t go about teaching your younger brothers bad manners!” The father scolded both his sons.

“Oto-san…” The younger one called out, as he rubbed his head in pain. “Where did the baby come from?”

“Ummm…..This…..well you….know….” The father struggled as he turned to his wife who was enjoying the unfolding scene. “Dear some help here?”

“Oto-san! Let me help you!” The elder one made a surprising declaration. “Tomo-chan, when a man and woman, get into bed together, they make….OUCH!!!” The elder son rolled on the floor, holding his head, as he received two fists on his head – one from both his parents.

“Seriously…..children these days….where do they get this sort of information, barely turned seven and already…..” The mother spoke in alarm as her eyes were fixed on her eldest son rolling on the ground in pain. She then shifted her fierce gaze at her husband; who began trembling in fear for some unknown reason.

“Dear….” The mother calmly spoke. “You were carefully monitoring the children while I was in hospital…right?”

The father began uncontrollably fidgeting.

“I will teach him well.” The father replied back as he hung his head down.

*Sigh*

“Tomo-chan” Tomo-chan’s mother spoke, staring at her youngest son with caring loving eyes of a mother.

“Uhu…” Tomo-chan nodded slightly dazed by the overwhelming love in his mother’s voice.

“Babies come from magic!”

“Magic?” Tomo-chan asked suspiciously yet his voice conveyed his innocent gullibility and excitement.

“Magic!” His mother mischievously replied back. She then hugged both her sons, as though she had been holding back all this while – “Gosh! I have missed you two!!”

Tomo-chan had a very shocked expression on his face – babies come from magic. This revelation would have far reaching consequences for him than his parents could imagine.

I am not sure what is going on right now, but as I understand, I have gained two more retainers. They seem to be called Tomo and the other is Tatsuya. Are you all surprised by my prodigious level of comprehension? It is nothing to be shocked about – with a little bit of guess work and understanding of languages, it was easy for me to figure out what names these servants have. Though, honestly, I wish someone told me their names. What’s up with this stupid way of greeting babies in this society?

In the demon world, I remember when I hatched, Xerxes-san was kind enough to bow and greet me.

“Welcome to the Nether Realm, Mighty Demon Lord. I am Xerxes, your retainer.”

Now that is what I call a greeting, not all this physical touching and gripping….. humans are definitely weird.

Listen woman-servant! While I accept the gesture of providing me two male coy servants, I prefer female. Are you listening? Why are you crushing their bodies!!! I will not accept broken goods!! You hear me!!! If you break them with that crushing grip of yours, don’t expect me to accept them as my servants!!!

Sigh…..why do I even bother trying, she doesn’t even understand me. The, two new servants, have better names than these adult retainers – otosan and okasan. What dorkish names are otosan and okasan?

Part 2

It seems are new castle is located high in the sky. From the windows I can see many tall buildings….okay this is scary….getting slightly dizzy….exactly how high are we? Were human castles always located this high? Or is my room located in a high tower? I will need to speak with my servants and make arrangements to move to a lower floor. I am not good with heights.

Yesterday, I met two new servants – Tomo and Tatsuya. Both of them are extremely useless. No, if they have any redeeming quality, it is the fact that they have made me realize how much better the two adult servants are. Well….I guess this is to be expected. Children of any species are hopelessly clueless – Nonetheless! If they are going to serve the Demon Lord, they cannot be of low quality.

I guess expecting things like quality from humans is foolish of me.

On that note human bodies appear to be useless when it comes to being able to sense mana. How did I reach this conclusion? At first I thought it was only my male bodyguard who couldn’t use mana – as I didn’t sense any being emitted from him.

However, recently for the last few days I have had many humans come over - I am not sure if they are all my servants….but then again I am the Demon Lord, having less than a thousand servants would be embarrassing. I apologize I digressed. After meeting several humans, I noticed I couldn’t detect an ounce of mana from them. I find it inconceivable that out of twenty humans, none of them know how to use magic. If humans were that useless, then I would have taken over the human realm in less than a day. Hence, I reached two possible conclusions– firstly, human beings are weak at sensing magic freely. This might be more so in the case of children. If this is the case I can only wait till I mature enough to be able to sense magic. Secondly, the mana thickness in the atmosphere in the human realm is extremely thin. This in turn makes it extremely difficult to use advanced magic spells. I am afraid if it is the latter case, using four-circle spells would be impossible for me with a human body.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

Either ways, both conclusions have a singular consequence – my plans to wipe out humanity have to be delayed. I feel slightly bitter about the delay. However, it is important to watch and learn from these humans – I am afraid till I am unable to use 90% of my powers, I cannot act brashly.

As Dracula taught me, “Patience! Is the key to winning the war!”

Hero! You have made the fatal mistake of now destroying my soul. Being reincarnated as a trashy human, has given me the opportunity to infiltrate the human society and learn all your secrets – strengths and weaknesses. The day humanity will be dyed in their own blood is only drawing closer!!!

MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

“Who is hungry!!” A soft voice called out, as oka-san reached out for her carelessly happy-smiling child. “You sure laugh a lot, don’t you?” She asks the baby, as she rubs her nose against the baby’s nose.

You stupid woman!! When will you learn!!! I am your master!!! You cannot treat me like this!!! Don’t you dare try to tempt me with those…..

Part 3

I have lost track of how many days have gone by, but I can feel my frail human body grow bit by bit as I cultivate my foundation for magic. Every night, when these stupid humans think I have gone to sleep, I am actually awake and am cultivating in secret….although I have zealously expended efforts in trying to grasp even the tiniest bit of magic – I have so far yielded no results. My futile efforts have only frustrated me more – don’t tell me I have been born in a talentless human body; incapable of sensing and using mana!

Whilst brooding over my frustrations and inability to use magic, I made a surprising discovery. I am not sure why I didn’t notice it till today!

Although humans are not very intelligent, they are unexpectedly creative in solving problems. It is plentifully evident, that my retainers are unable to use magic. However, they have overcome this limitation with the use of magic tools!

They have this one tool which, with the press of a finger, can brighten a dark room! And there is another magical tool which you can talk into….but I am not sure what that does – I am guessing it is some sort of communication device for those who can’t use telepathy. There is another tool which is similar to a scrying portal! And another tool which keeps everything inside it cold – but this could be a torture dungeon. I accidently crawled into it and locked myself in it. It was a horrible experience but I will be certain to use this tool when I am interrogating my human prisoners for information.

Right, I forgot to mention, I can finally crawl. Humans sure are pathetic – as a Demon baby, I could walk on the day I hatched!

Initially, I did not take advantage of crawling. However, after discovering so many magic tools, my interest has been piqued. So, I am spending all my time crawling from one room of my castle to another. I first thought, the castle I live in is extremely small – five rooms?

That is till I discovered the “Thick Wooden Door”. Once you cross the Thick Wooden Door, you enter this corridor filled identical thick wooden doors. As I crawled on my fours, across this extremely long corridor, I counted over 20 such wooden doors. Some of these Wooden Doors were open and when I crawled inside, to my astonishment, I discovered 5 more rooms and more servants!! Seeing this I was finally relieved. This is not so bad – of course compared to my ten thousand room palace. This is indeed paltry.

There was also a metallic door which when opened rang with a bell noise. This Metal Door led into a tiny room….and when it opens again, the scenery outside completely changes. I feel like this room moves up and down….another amazing magic tool. I can understand now, how despite being weak, humans still resist those stronger than themselves…..

At this point I am not even sure how many rooms my castle has….I lost track once the floors began changing….What!! All the floors look exactly the same to me!!! They only smell different!! (which is how I know they are different!)

This is turning problematic….I think I may be lost?

Ahahahaha…..The Demon Lord is lost…..What a stupid joke!!! I should I brought my retainer along when I went exploring. I confess I got carried away while exploring the castle and forgot to…No wait….isn’t it their fault? Shouldn’t they be the ones accompanying me everywhere I go?

Part 4

Just when I thought I was lost and trapped in the tiny magical room (which I haven’t figured out how to operate), one of my servants, whom I have not met before entered the magical room.

I greeted him and requested him to take me back to my room.

He was extremely shocked to see me. Well I can understand that reaction – when I would approach my lowly servants they had a similar reaction.

Anyways, I instructed this lowly servant to take me back to my room. I am not sure how much this new guy understood but he got my caretaker lady to come immediately.

Oka-san’s eyes were puffy and two streams of tears were running down her eyes when she saw me.

I can understand this reaction too – when I was about to punish a lowly servant, they would cry and repent for their mistake. However, Okasan is mistaken. I may be cruel to low servants (and humans) – but I always treat my higher retainers kindly.

Don’t worry Okasan. I am benevolent and I will forgive such small mistakes – I was only exploring my own castle. Getting lost in your own castle is an embarrassing mistake even for the Demon Lord. Nonetheless, next time when I leave my room, you must accompany me.

Hey!!! Stop crushing me with those soft hills of yours!!! Stop!!! And listen to what I have to say!!! Are you listening to me??!!
