A lonely road within the campus late in the night. Femi is pacing the ground, looking at his watch periodically.
FEMI: I hope she responds to my urgent call.
(Enter Liz.)
LIZ: FEMI!
LIZ: Liz, dear, I wish to beg you to reconsider your former decision and be my lover again. As you must surely know, my heart is forever lost in yours. Even the brief period of separation in between then and now has not in anyway dimmed the fire of love that burns in my heart; rather, it has intensified its heat. Dear Liz, even though what has passed between then and no is perhaps of a shameful nature I love you still. The fire of love that bums in my heart is not the type that can be extinguished by water; it is not the kind that will go out even if submerged under a mountain of snow.
FEMI: Dear Femi, you must surely know that nothing is dearer to me than your love. Had circumstances differed with time, I would surely return to you. But alas, it is now too late.
FEMI: Liz dear, it can never be too late once there is love. It is that golden fire of affection that matters and not the time.
LIZ: I am sorry, Femi. Though it is my desire to come back to you, I cannot because the fruit of that sinful and forced union is grossly written on me. Femi, I am pregnant for that boast
Femi: What! (Both are silent for a long time) Look, Liz, no one else knows this but you and I. Let it be a secret between us. I still love you and want you back!
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
LIZ: O Femi, you are too noble for this world! Go, Femi, go and find yourself a better girl for a wife. You are too noble to have a whore, a common prostitute from the gutters as your wife.
FEMI: I care not what the world calls you. Whore or not, it is you I love and want to marry. Please Liz, come back to me.
LIZ: No, Femi, I cannot.
FEMI: Is that your final word?
LIZ: Yes.
(Silence for a few minutes.)
FEMI: Very well, I will bear it like a man, though the wound will forever remain fresh in my heart. But why Liz? Why did you do it in the first instance?
LIZ: I had no choice. He threatened to fail you if I refused.
FEMI: Fail me? What do you mean?
LIZ: He threatened to fail you in your final papers if I didn't consent. And knowing that you are an orphan and had had no help from any one, not even the government, I had to consent so you would not lose all you have worked so hard for.
FEMI: No! No! No! No! Please tell me it's untrue.
LIZ: O yes, it is true.
FEMI: Liz, why? Why? Why did you have to suffer such humiliation for my sake? And why didn't you tell me about it?
LIZ: I love you too much, Femi. I could not refuse for the sake of love.
FEMI: But... but you could at least have told me this before taking such a decision. Why?
LIZ: O Femi, there was no time. I love you too much to hesitate. (Pauses.) Goodbye, Femi, I hope we meet again after my fateful hour. But even if we don't, forget not what I have sacrificed for you, and that I die with your love burning, burning in my heart. Goodbye!
(Exits.)
FEMI: (Staggering like a dreamer.) Liz, why have you done this for me? You Jesus of my heart, saviour of my soul, my sacrificial lamb, the Calvary of all my sins, bearer of my shame, why have you done this for me? What have I done to deserve such a sacrifice? What have I done to deserve such a mountain of love? Liz, you are the purest Eve ever created, and the most faithful of all women. And I shall forever love you that I promise. (With sudden anger.) But will your humiliation go unavenged? No!
(Exits Femi in fury.)
