132. The White And Yellow Petal

Tiffany: The meaning of honour I want you to exemplify is one of control.

Max: Control?

Tiffany: Hmph. Although I doubt this is news to you, you shouldn't be using your powers to get ahead of people.

Max: Yeah, sure... To keep our identities secret. Obviously....

Tiffany: Yes, that is true and a good enough reason on its own. I'd also prefer that you kept another one close to your heart.

Max: Another?

Tiffany: Hmph.

She took a moment to look Max directly in his eyes.

Tiffany: Max, do you think it's fair to use your powers to bully people?

Her mind immediately went to the time she saw Max face off against Vince. She knew full well that Max had never met the guy, and so his reasons for doing this were unclear to her.

However, it was clear enough to her that he wasn't the kind of guy to take advantage of others' lack of power.

And so, as she expected....

Max: No way! That's totally unfair!

Tiffany: That's right.

Max: The strong are supposed to protect the weak.

Tiffany: Hmph. I couldn't agree more. And so, you know what this means, don't you?

Max: Hmm?

Tiffany: It means never using your powers to gain an unfair advantage over others. Ever.

Max: Never?

To Max, it wasn't much of a rule to him, as he'd never ordinarily do that on the account of his promise to his mother.

Tiffany: Yes, never. It's the same reason as to why Rose never uses her powers to read minds, or why Ken never uses his internet skills to hack into the city mainframe, or why Luke always holds back while playing football.

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

Max: Wait! Rose doesn't read peoples' minds.

Tiffany: Hmph. Not unless it's a mission or an emergency.

Max: Huh.......

A perplexing fact that he'd never really given much thought.

It suddenly dawned on him that that was what Ken meant by "honour regulations" the previous day.

Max: That's easy.

Tiffany: Good. (thinking: I thought so.... Although, ....)

Max turned to the wall and started painting yet another outline.

Tiffany: (thinking: ... I still don't get it. Why did he protect Lenny?)

Within a few moments, some spent admiring the white marker, he had finished drawing yet another outline of a flower petal.

Max: Ok. Done.

Tiffany: Great.

She pulled out a third marker. This one was an orange-ish yellow, and the photo that followed it was a yellowish orange flower.

Max: This one's pretty weird.

Tiffany: Hmm?

Max: It's got a lot of petals.

Tiffany: Yeah... true.

Max: So... what's the.... (slightly mocking tone) super important lesson here?

Tiffany: The third question here is a matter of self-control.

Max: Eh... (thinking: You've gotta be kidding me.)

Tiffany: As a member of this team, I'll be needing your loyalty. Both in mind and in body.

Max: (unsurely) Sure....? Whatever that means?

Tiffany: What I mean is, I'll be needing you to make the team one of your main obligations, even when things get hairy.

Max: Hairy?

Tiffany: Max, we go to Hypercity High. Trust me, a lot more things can go down in high school that just "Vince" and food fights.

Max: Yeah, well... whaddya mean?

Tiffany: What I mean is... well... I have no intention of keeping you from living your life, but also, I'll be needing you to keep your mind off those things when we need you, if such a case arises.

Max: Oh.... I get it.

Tiffany: Good.

Max: Its like in that one episode of Super Powerful Man, where his girlfriend Louisse Ways wanted to have a date with him, but he had to go save some people and so he abandoned her and went off to save the day. She got real mad after that because she didn't know he was really Super Powerful Guy.

Tiffany simply silently listened. She was somewhat surprised that she listened, but she did.

Tiffany: Sure. As long as you get the gist.

And so Max drew the third petal. It was yet another outline.

Max: Aaaaaaaaaannnnnd done!

Tiffany: Good. Now....

She handed Max a red marker.

Tiffany: ... on to the final petal.

Max: Hmph.

And after showing Max one photo of the flower, she started.

Tiffany: Before you paint this one, Max. I have to say something....

Max: Yeah, yeah... important question. I got it.

Tiffany: No. This may well be the most important petal of them all.

Max: Hmm? (thinking: The most important?)
